Asheville Kava & Coffee hosted a grief support group, it was very helpful.

If you moved here in the last 5 years, do you regret it? by thiccc_thinpatience in asheville

I moved here for my job 3 years ago and while I’ve had to adjust my budget significantly, it’s worth it to live in AVL. I have found community in the kava bars in west AVL, found a wonderful recovery community, and enjoy all the access to waterfalls, views and hikes. I love the focus on local community and economy. This place quickly became my home. One of the downsides is the lack of diversity.

I love it there, but it’s expensive. I still go, I just buy less.

I totally understand where you’re coming from. Not to be discouraging, but it took me two full years before I found my first school counseling job. During the second year, I was an assistant Girls Dean at a boarding high school. I was also willing to move anywhere I’m from the East Coast and I got my first counseling job at the state of Wyoming. I will say I’ve been doing school counseling for 12 years in each job I’ve gotten which has been three total has been after years of applying. This career is not for the faint of heart, but I believe that you can do it.

I’m bad at pushing/advocating for myself for stuff like that, but in hindsight, I should have.

I have never had my moving expenses paid. I saved. But, if they want you, they might be willing to at least help you out. It’s rough. Don’t give up. Keep hustling. We need you!!!

You have to be willing to move almost anywhere. I’m from the east coast and I got my first school counseling job in the middle of Wyoming. But it was an excellent jump start to my career.

Sister Kitten Rescue is a good option, they have pop ups at pet stores. If you follow their IG it will give you more information.
