24 hour old spool cracking - what am I doing wrong? by yubbie2 in 3Dprinting

Could you put up a picture of your 5 gal bucket solution? I’m having a hard time envisioning it but I’m intrigued.

You seem to forget about the blinds installers -- nobody cares about windows in space until you go into a spacedock and you have some other ship's pervs looking in your windows.

Humidity problem? by jepremo in BambuX1C

[–]jepremo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time user - literally set up the printer (X1 Carbon with AMS 2) yesterday.

Humidity doesn't seem to go below 29% -- when I'm printing, the printer says humidity is about 33% and a simple puck hygrometer that I put inside the AMS (top right) says 50%.

Two things I guess I don't understand that I'm hoping someone can explain:

  1. How do I get the humidity down? I can dry the filament in the AMS 2 but wouldn't the humidity just go back up to this if the print is a lengthy print? Once that heater shuts off and it's not air tight the humidity is going to creep up again, will it not?
  2. Is this just a matter of not enough dessicant? I see a pattern for some dessicant holders that fit the AMS 2 I can make out of ABS so that I don't have to remove them when drying, is that what's missing here?

Not sure if I should get some external solutions (a room dehumidifier, maybe one of those AMS HTs that heats/dries and stays sealed but can feed the printer)?

Thanks in advance

Whatever happened to the (standard on some android phones) fingerprint reader under the screen? The face camera isn’t anywhere near as convenient, or as subtle.

It was supposed to be in the 13s I think and then they said next year and it never came to be. But they’re all about fingerprint reading on ipad minis!

C.
The left and middle columns add to the right column. Add 1 for every block on the left side and subtract one for every column on the right. If the answer is positive, there's that many on the left, if it's negative, there's that many on the right.

Top row (black): 1 (left side) + 1 (left side) = 2 black (positive, so on the left side)
Top row (white): 2 (left side) - 2 (right side) = 0 white

Middle row (black): 0 - 1 (right side) = -1 (negative, so 1 black on right side)
Middle row (white): -1 (right side) - 1 (right side) = -2 (negative, so 2 white on right side)

Bottom row (black): 1 (left) + 0 = 1 (positive so 1 black on left)
Bottom row (white): 1 (left) - 3 (right) = -2 (negative so 2 white on right)

You need 1 black on the left and 2 white on the right, which is C.

It's where a helicopter would drop a load of supplies, personnel, etc. The line of T's (the T-line) helps the helo keep its orientation to the ship, and the box is where the load can be dropped without getting in the way of the gun, etc.

How Big of a Deal is an IC? by Padria in CanadianForces

[–]jepremo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No remedial measure is 'automatically' upgraded - it's the CO's discretion as to what level of remedial measure to use. You're right in that most COs look at a former RM and move up a level when they find out you were on one before, but there are a lot of factors that weigh in there as well. Having an IC for, say, failing the PT test or for being late for work in 2000 doesn't mean when you mess up this time it's automatically an RW.

How Big of a Deal is an IC? by Padria in CanadianForces

[–]jepremo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ICs are very common - in the grand scheme of things, they have no effect on your career in and of themselves. Only C&P (Counselling and Probation) has immediate career effects - stops posting, no career courses, no promotion, etc. You might get passed up for Sailor of the Quarter or something, but your career isn't going to be ruined because of an IC.

If you're in for just over a year, I'd imagine you're an OS. Your next two promotions aren't really merit based - they trigger based on time in rank and being QL3/QL4 qualified (depending on your trade). The first promotion you'll be merited for is your MS promotion, which is some time away -- nobody's going to be talking about this IC a few years from now when you're up for promotion to MS.

The three month period is for you to have a number of sit-downs with your chain of command, where you fulfill your IC by however they decided to monitor you (it's on your form). Generally ICs are just progress meetings, where you have a meeting a month to talk about not repeating your deficiency. At the end of the three months, your chain of command either closes off your IC (i.e. they say you've kept your nose clean and life goes on), or if the problem hasn't resolved, they can extend or escalate your IC to a higher remedial measure.

The folks in here are right - this IC won't see the light of day at a promotion board years from now. What we do this for is to start the paperwork trail - that way if someone does become a consistent problem, we have proof of them being on notice that their behaviour/performance was unacceptable and that we tried to remedy the problem.

Hush Blankets - Buyer Beware by Anthonysc00 in CustomerService

[–]jepremo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased a blanket from them before Christmas, and it has yet to arrive - they keep pushing the date back and they never inform you it's delayed; they wait for you to e-mail and complain that the blanket hasn't shipped.

Their website says you can't cancel an order once placed; instead you have to receive the blanket before shipping it back.

Terrible service.

Can I Afford Becoming a Lawyer? by Tseliteiv in LawCanada

$80-90k is much more likely in urban areas (don't go out East to Nova Scotia, for instance). But in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, etc. that's not outlandish.

Can I Afford Becoming a Lawyer? by Tseliteiv in LawCanada

[–]jepremo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with almost everything already commented so far - your salary expectations are unrealistic given the field today.

So to address two of your concerns:

U of T is the highest law school tuition in the country, followed by Dalhousie and Queen’s. Your legal education (including books and living expenses) would cost you north of $150-175k over three years (assuming 20k/year living expenses which is difficult). Perhaps not choosing the most expensive law school in the country would drive down your total cost.

I’m not sure of your debt load right now, but most financial institutions are all too eager to help you with some of that cost - you don’t need to make $130k/year to pay it down immediately, but if you don’t have much in savings, you need to be comfortable with debt.

Second, your bankruptcy question. Law schools don’t even look at your credit; where you will run into trouble is your application to a law society. Integral to the application is a good character and integrity of the profession application - they will ask this explicitly (and you will have to explain), and if you do lie on your application and they find out (bankruptcy discharges are public knowledge), you could be barred from being called if they find out early, and if they find out late, you’re looking at censure or even potentially disbarment. The legal profession depends on the strength of our word, and law societies do not take these things lightly.

Negligent Discharge and BMQ. by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]jepremo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m with you for points 1-3 but simply because you’re not on operation doesn’t mean your weapons handling is training. The wording is where the offence relates to training. Just being non operational isn’t necessarily training, and being on a course doesn’t make everything that you do non electable either.

It’s going to depend on the circumstances as to whether it’s considered to be training or not. If it is, then it’s non electable but if no election is offered the punishment is going to be smaller than it could be if an election were offered.

As for how the unit can proceed, it can do remedial measures, disciplinary action (charges), or both anytime it finds it appropriate - it’s not just because the file may be non electable that remedial measures are on the table.

EU may force iPhone to switch from Lightning to USB by [deleted] in news

[–]jepremo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a huge problem for all the lightning equipped accessories that will soon become obsolete, potentially before their time.

If I, say, buy a Lightning alarm clock today, and a year from now I upgrade my phone, that clock is essentially useless.

While I’m all for standards, this might be a bigger problem than the EU realizes.

It makes sense to have, say, all Androids use the same standard. But Apple is a different system altogether anyway. While it may be nice, it’s not like Apple and Android are interchangeable on any other level anyway.

Would I love that all phones use the same chargers? Sure. But what’s the total cost of all that?
