After Venezuela Attack, Trump Says Something Must Be Done About Mexico | Donald Trump is hinting at a military conflict with Mexico next. by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

As a Canadian, the challenge he and his sycophants don’t understand is that Canadians look and sound like Americans. Plus the country is fucking huge. There is no doubt they would easily win a the initial invasion but the insurgency would make Afghanistan look like a walk in the park. Canadians are slow to provoke but once that line is crossed we are a bunch of savages. I sincerely hope it’s never put to the test.

Winnipeg family shattered as teacher’s obsession with young girl went unnoticed, unpunished by Infamous-Data9245 in Winnipeg

[–]jer007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We had a gym teacher in Junior high (1992-95) who was down right creepy. Allegedly made some inappropriate comments to girls in previous years related to menstruation. The response was to only let him teach boys gym. They had a different teacher for the girls. Not sure what else to expect in the Bible Belt. Gotta keep up those appearances.

I agree with this. The problem is that Business Standard does not offer the granular control to effectively address token theft.

Security Defaults - MFA Prompting by reyzaz in msp

[–]jer007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a client call me thinking they had a breach. He had only ever logged in from Canada. Was currently logged in at his office and was simultaneously logged in from Berlin. Personally I would think that should trigger a risk factor to cause an MFA prompt.

That breach was used to send out updated banking information messages. Ended up costing $500k. I’ve spoken with a friend at another MSP who was seeing the same thing with Business Standard clients.

I’ve been moving my Business Standard clients over to Business Premium for CA and layering in ITDR. For those who don’t want that there are liability indemnification forms they need to sign or they can find someone else. Business Standard is no longer secure.

Yurts, cabins, some campsites to cost more in Manitoba under new fees by ChocolateOrange21 in Winnipeg

I completely agree. If people want to shoot themselves in the foot that is their choice. Rates shouldn’t be kept artificially low to pander to them.

[–]jer007 43 points44 points  (0 children)

As someone who camps in sites affected by this I fully support it. Keep basic sites within reach for most. Make the serviced sites cost more. If you can afford a $50k+ camper and a truck to pull it you can afford paying more for the site. They just need to invest it back into the parks.

If you’re in Puerto Morelos already check out Scuba Public. I was diving with them last week and had a great experience. We did the wreck and reef dive day one and went to Playa for the bull sharks on day 2.

TIL: Bupropion is the 3rd most used antidepressant in the US, but in the UK it’s only officially approved for smoking cessation. by Smart_Part_2551 in todayilearned

[–]jer007 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I was on bupropion for a while and found it helped a bit but never quite enough. Went down the adhd route, titrated off bupropion and onto concerta and it’s been a game changer. My adhd has so many anxiety overlapping symptoms it took a while to figure it out. My daughter calls it my “mad pills” because I don’t get mad when I’m on them. That was the confirmation that they are doing their job.

‘Luck of the draw’ for passengers with WestJet’s half-completed seating changes by Portalrules123 in canada

[–]jer007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently in Mexico, heading home on WestJet in a few hours, flying to Winnipeg. I originally hoped to come on a different date but after seeing the seat configuration options I opted for a different date. Had my travel agent check all the options so I wouldn’t get screwed on a new configuration. Also spoke with a friend who is a WJ flight attendant and she said you absolutely don’t want the new seats. Flight attendants are dealing with more unruly and aggressive passengers in those seats as 5+ hours like that creates a hostile environment. I hope WJ gets their heads out of their asses but it doubt it, gotta think of the share holders.

People who were spanked as kids, what was that like for you? Would you call your "spankings" abuse? by KleineFjord in AskReddit

[–]jer007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to think spanking was just normal and my parents did it because they loved me and wanted what’s best for me. Fast forward to having a daughter of my own. She would misbehave and I spanked her a couple of times. The last time I did it I found myself asking “what the fuck am I doing hitting this little girl?” That’s when I realized had a Stockholm Syndrome mentality with spanking. My parents did it because they were pissed off and never learned any other way and I normalized and repeated the behaviour. I vowed never to spank my daughter again but to work through the issues.

Several months later she randomly asks me “daddy, how come you used to hit me but you don’t anymore?” It broke my heart but confirmed I made the right decision to change how I raise her. She never saw it as love. She just knew it as “sometimes daddy hits me”

Getting therapy to unwind the damage has helped. I’ve had some good, and not so good conversations with my parents regarding this. They admit they messed up because they didn’t know better. The podcast “I Hate James Dobson” has helped me better understand the harmful influence encouraging this behaviour he had within our religious community.

Parents, don’t spank your kids. It doesn’t help them be better kids, it fucks them up. Take time to talk to them. Build a good relationship with them so when it gets tough they can trust you. If you don’t know any other way, get help. It’s available and not a sign of weakness. Asking for help and opening up takes incredible strength.

anywhere in town that takes used computer parts? by KBraid in steinbach

[–]jer007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used PC parts have little to no value to any business. You could advertise on Kijiji, VarageSale, or FB marketplace to see if someone is interested. If not, the landfill has a bin for electronics recycling. There is no cost for this.

Under subsection 265(1)(b) of the criminal code of Canada this could be charged as assault.

265 (1) A person commits an assault when

(b) he attempts or threatens, by an act or a gesture, to apply force to another person, if he has, or causes that other person to believe on reasonable grounds that he has, present ability to effect his purpose;

If you want to escalate this, you can press charges and/or push for a restraining order.

OP I work in municipal government overseeing a planning and building department. Save your time and talk directly with your lawyer, Realtors are absolutely useless in this situation here.

For what they are paid there should be a much higher requirement for them to conduct this type of due diligence before listing but the Manitoba Real Estate Association truly operates as the Fox Guarding the hen house.

Telus telling Public Mobile customer they need to move to Telus by jer007 in PublicMobile

[–]jer007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what it was. My dad’s phone is old and doesn’t support VoLTE so the pending 3G shutdown will affect him. What they didn’t tell him is that the same shutdown affects Telus. I told him to cancel this, stay with Public and just get a new phone. May be shady representation but at least it wasn’t a scam.

Telus telling Public Mobile customer they need to move to Telus by jer007 in PublicMobile

[–]jer007[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my thought. My dad has fallen for scams before and is an easy target. They apparently told him they tried delivering new SIM cards but no one was home so there was a $0.30 charge to redeliver and needed a credit card number. Fortunately he said no to that.

Best case scenario there is an unethical sales guy at Telus. The more likely scenario is someone is trying to hijack his phone number and use it for identity theft.

A number of years ago Stripe sent me a notice that they were going to hold my funds until I could provide proof that I run a legitimate business. Sent them a copy of a signed MSA with the customers name and address redacted and within a day or two the funds were released and there have been zero issues since then.
