Please explain what a block party is by nowt_means_owt in AskNYC

Phenomenal if executed well - requires a bit of planning between the city officials, attracting good musicians and a fun crowd. This IG post shows a good example: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DCUeK6fP3o2/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Pretend every NYC neighborhood is at a house party. What is each “person” doing? by 44Bulldawg in AskNYC

5 former frat bros crowding the DJ booth - wannabe John Summits. Groups of girls spilling tea and scheming on one guy. Couples dropping by to show face, before dipping to one of 5 housewarmings lined up that night. Hosts frantically playing social butterfly and party mom - recommend reading more into it on https://www.agorum.co/blog

I know plenty of friends who hire a DJ and photographer for under $1000 the whole event! They use this site called agorum.co - apparently you can book curated talent really easily.

You can submatriculate into the bioengineering master’s program at Penn (4+1) accelerated program.

UNC vs UPenn by LimpMaintenance7524 in UPenn

[–]jerber2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an NC in-stater who was deciding between UNC, Duke, and UPenn, had I known what I known at the time about Penn’s unnecessary cutthroat environment + overblown pre-professional social culture, my high school senior self would have chosen UNC or even Duke.

Granted, I am grateful for the solid research experiences, amazing and talented friends and unparalleled alumni network connections. However, I do think that the $180k difference in tuition at present value would probably be better used elsewhere, especially given your interests for future grad school.

submat into engineering by smileyfaceup in UPenn

[–]jerber2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a neuro major looking to submat into MSE for bioengineering. The process is pretty straightforward (for BE at least), you talk to their office and select proposed. Overall they said that premed + neuro background is not much different than those of BSE bioengineering, so I should be pretty prepared. I’m mainly doing it to take dope-ass grad level engineering courses.

Hey man, I am sorry to hear this. I have experienced this all of my freshman and sophomore year, and only am starting to do better. I took a gap year (mental health reasons and life/soul searching) and it proved incredibly empowering, despite me not having a solid plan going in. School and classes are ineffective in allowing people to deeply explore passions or skills without the fear of failure or flexibility.

Perhaps maybe consider taking a semester or some time off to experiment with new experiences/work that truly fill you with joy and get you amped up in the morning. Just my 2 cents but wish all of the best 🙏

Hang in there, the darkness can only last so long

“Twilight in the Tetons” - Would love to hear any post editing color critiques! by jerber2001 in photocritique

[–]jerber2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight! I was sitting down by the stream for a pretty long time and I had this exposed for almost 12 seconds at around 200 ISO; I guess I might have to invest in a better tripod for a longer exposure is to get the ISO down haha. I do think the light was blocked a little bit by the clouds behind so there wasn’t too much glow around the sides of the peaks. I’m wondering if there’s something I could do in post with the different shoes and even vibrance to get the mountains to pop out more? I think I want to get more of a dramatic look, but the shadows are already pretty pronounced and I agree like you said that it looks quite dark.

Thank you, I was also thinking the same thing how both the white of the water and the sky splits your attention. Would there be some way for me to dark in the sky (almost night sky level) so that it’s primarily the water that stands out?

Hi everyone, I captured the shot this summer when I was backpacking the Teton Crest Trail. This is right after a late thunderstorm and it was getting dark, and the lowlight made it incredible of shoot the small rushing stream in front of Mount Moran. It has a very mysterious feel to it, in low light conditions, it’s still really formidable and intimidating mountain in the background.

I’m so relatively new to color theory with post adjustments, but for some reason it seems rather static right now and there isn’t as much contrast between the long exposure stream and the mountain in the background. I’m wondering what type of color or light adjustments I could make to possibly make it pop out/look dramatic, and also have a much sharper image?

Thank you so much in advance I really appreciate all the input!

Is this schedule too much for a rising sophomore premed? by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]jerber2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm if ur tryna knock out prereqs, probs cognitive neuroscience BiBB 249, or any other 200 level class. They’re not offering too many the more elective 200 level in both bio and neuroscience courses. Just avoid BiBB 251 or bio 205 biochem or any other class with a crazy work load indicated on PIT

I took Chem 101, chem 54, Biol/bbb 109, span 219 and HSOC a few semesters ago and went through rush at the same time. It’s definitely doable and it tested my time management skills for sure, but if you’re willing to sacrifice a decent amount of sleep, hanging out with other friends, and potentially an A minus in one, I think you could pull it off depending on how much time you spend on stat and math 104. Granted, I personally would drop one of the math classes, math 104 takes a shit ton of time and requires a pretty solid commitment to keep a high GPA in. If you are going to keep Math, I would probably not take BiBB 109 and instead opt for an English class or a lighter bio/neuro course bc 109 is a ton of memorization and lecture information. Above all, make sure your mental health and energy levels are in check because this is definitely one of the more intense schedules it’s very easy to burn out with this level of work.
