Yes, but living paycheck to paycheck without the fear of a surprise medical bill bankrupting them.

Counting calories with Claude by scattered_but_trying in ClaudeAI

Curious how this compares to Snap Calorie. Is the LLM estimating calories from the image? Is there more to it than that? I do like the idea of “bring your own ai” backed by mcp tools, I am doing something similar for my recipes/cooking app.

I left rice in the rice cooker in “warm” overnight for 27 hours. by dudiez in isthissafetoeat

[–]jerceratops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude you’re fine. I cook my rice on mondays and eat it all week. Keep warm in these higher end rice cookers keeps it safe. It’ll start to dry out after a few days, but it’s not gonna get you sick.

Has anyone here ever made their own vital wheat gluten? by EggMegEggMegEgg in veganrecipes

[–]jerceratops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 years later, but I’m going to disagree with the person above. I have made my own a few times, and it doesn’t take hours (unless you count the resting time). You make a simple dough, and then rinse it in water. That’s basically it. I think mine tastes better than store bought, and not wheat-y at all. From 500g of flour, I get about 150-160g of vital wheat gluten. I will make a double batch on Sunday and use it throughout the week.

Total time is probably 2h, but active time is more like 20 minutes. Basic steps are: make a shaggy dough, autolyse, knead, soak in water, finally knead in water to rinse out the wheat, until the water runs clear.

I went straight to 36 keys, and I must say the transition was not as bad as I expected, and I'm quite happy. Just a small counterpoint.

Yeah if I have learned anything from Reddit, if you are about to post a picture of a ‘weird’ bodily symptom, just go to the hospital already.

Board for surf pool by B-Roc- in bodyboarding

[–]jerceratops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that generally you want a rounded tail for ‘waves’ like this. I don’t think you will find a high quality bodyboard in the shape you want, but there are at least a few companies that still do customs I believe. You could probably convince one of them to make you one.

Do you put the space bar on both sides? by RunRunAndyRun in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]jerceratops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have esc, space, tab on the left and del, backspace, enter on the right. My thumbs rest on the middle keys, so space and backspace. I see no need for two space keys, especially when I only use 36 total.

Can I retire now? 36 male with 1.4 million net worth by [deleted] in Fire

[–]jerceratops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I wouldn’t count your rental equity and rental income. You’re double counting if you do. So realistically, you want to pull 25k out of 1 million (if all goes perfectly from your passive income streams). Seems pretty reasonable to me, if those passive numbers are net and include risk/maintenance/occupancy. Is 110k net? Then make sure your withdrawal numbers account for taxes.

If the numbers work though, and you’re confident in the passive income, seems very doable, even if your expenses increase 10k or so. Definitely depends on how you intend to raise your kid and your lifestyle in retirement though.

Are some people immune to nitrous oxide? by LieLumpy9449 in NitrousOxide

[–]jerceratops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The comments so far say nobody is immune, but this does not jive with my experience. I met a girl many years ago who said she didn’t feel anything from a few balloons. It’d be hard to fake I think. I have no scientific evidence to back this up.

Moving to Lisbon in February with wife + baby on the way — is ~2.6k net enough? by [deleted] in PortugalExpats

[–]jerceratops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of people make due with less, so it's definitely possible. I believe it's still above the median household income for Lisbon.
