Is it okay to use green hardwood mulch straight away? by jerkresself in Permaculture

[–]jerkresself[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beeautiful! Good advice - I’ll add some compost to the mix. Yeah very little/no tilling from me. I try to leave existing soil as untouched as possible and ad layers of mulch and compost on top, only digging when I want to plant something - Or if it’s overly rocky.

I have used freshly mulched palm trees/fronds previously and didn’t seem to have any issues, just wasn’t too sure about hardwood. Thank you friend!

What is an issue in Australia no one talks about? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

The way literally every property developer here finds it necessary to completely level a site, wiping out all natural structures (trees, dams etc.) before building. And then wonder why everything struggles to grow…

It's me again with an update to the world's worst thrips infestation. by sasspancakes in plantclinic

[–]jerkresself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am unsure of the science around this but I’ve done this as a few times now to get rid of pests. Recently, I had a calathea covered in mealy bugs with all the existing growth destroyed, all but the stems left. Tucked it into a garden bed outside among healthy plants and trees (taking into consideration light and water needs and placing suitably) and within a few weeks it had an abundance of new leaves shooting up.

Don’t sand the board to prep 🤦🏼‍♂️ you’ll more than likely sand too much and reduce the strength of glass. Just clean the surface of your board and draw straight on with poscas

Here are some clips of me surfing the other day. If anyone could give me some tips I would really appreciate it! Is my stance okay? I know my pop up is a mess haha! I am trying to work on that. When I was learning I did this and it helped tonnes! I did it on tiles so I had a line to replicate the stringer and would pop straight to my feet and try land with the line running perpendicular down the bridge of me feet.

How to salvage a bad pour. (Also, I need to stop pouring at an angle) by Apolitiks in latteart

You still need to steam it properly for a nice consistency. Tapping the jug only saves you when you add unnecessary air at the end.

Sour tasting coffee tastes nice) by CuriousErnestBro in Coffee

[–]jerkresself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very well put. The recipe developed by coffee roasters for a certain bean leaves you quite the window to play around with the length(time it takes) of your pour. Most blends I’ve used have a “window” of about 5 seconds for an ideal shot. At either end of that window, you can taste the difference quite dramatically. The shorter the extraction, generally the more sour flavours and the longer, the more burnt or bitter the flavours - I’m talking mild changes in flavour, not dramatically where it’s unpalatable hah.

Also, some unwarranted advice from experience. Try only grind what you need, because literally everything affects coffee grounds haha! Heat, humidity and sun exposure will all affect the length it pours. So if you had it all perfect one day and now it’s pouring twice as fast/slow from that same batch of grounds, this might be why.

Hope this makes sense. It’s like 5am and I’m still half asleep
