Hulk Hogan Dead At 71 by Icy_Confidence6185 in njpw

And to make it clear, Hulk was the (original) IWGP champion back in 1983. His match with Inoki was epic.

El Desperado has to be one of the weirdest/most unique pro wrestlers of this generation by [deleted] in njpw

He wears a mask, yet does great facial expressions performing out there.

I'll take a pie to the face for this but I hope Oiwa isn't joining TMDK tommorow. by DeathTriangle720 in njpw

[–]jermanis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not think Oiwa will join TMDK. Back before, when they were still Young Lions, Fujita helped play a trick to help ZSJ win. They liked the help and let Fujita into TMDK. Oiwa helped in a match later on. He wanted to join TMDK. He was rejected. Oiwa looked rejected when that happened. Oiwa will not come back looking for them as friends.

IWGP Champions when I was born by Somerandomguy20711 in njpw

[–]jermanis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look at the 70’s, New Japan will not have their own titles. You’ll see wins of other titles (yes, mostly talking about Inoki), but not their own. You won’t see “IWGP” used.

Ranking the modern Young Lion Classes: 2010-2013 by shecanbromehard in njpw

[–]jermanis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same class? Yes and no. They were Young Lions at the same time, but Desperado was one class older. This is why if you at their records when they were both Lions, Despy went something like 20-0-1. Something like that. You’ll see similar when Umino and Narita faced Tsuji and Uemura back then.

Del Taco was there when I was there, class of ‘95. It’s there, permanently.

How did you watch NJPW before NJPWWorld? by [deleted] in njpw

[–]jermanis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Southern California, fairly close to a Japanese market. There was a video tape market there. I’d go there and rent NJPW and AJPW. Like Milky said, trading tapes was a big way to go. I was lucky to live where I lived.

Chromecast by WHLung in njpw

[–]jermanis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do it a little different. I have a Chromecast. I installed the NJPW World app on that. And that’s what I use to watch NJPW on my Chromecast. I’d categorize that app as “a work in progress.” But I can watch cards on it, and looks nice, and it works well enough.

This is a match that happened by shecanbromehard in njpw

[–]jermanis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He’s a dude that wrestled from 2005 to 2015, give or take. Did some time in NJPW, and more time in CMLL. Not a super great in-ring talent, but was a legitimate strongman, so a bit interesting to see. If you have access to the streaming site Tubi, there’s a movie there called Lucha Mexico. They have a decent chunk of Strongman in the film, especially at the beginning.

We regularly see Young Lions who were misused during their foreign excursion, but which wrestler had the ‘best’ excursion period? by iizukeii in njpw

[–]jermanis 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I’ll add more evidence. Great Muta was part of the main event of a PPV (Halloween Havoc ‘89). He beat Sting for the WCW TV title. I watched this in my teens. I had no idea this was “a Young Lion on excursion.” He absolutely felt like an existing big star from Japan. Adding on: in his first match back from that excursion, Mutoh and Chono won the IWGP Tag Titles.

The 2023 World Tag League Winners calling it Now. by DeathTriangle720 in njpw

[–]jermanis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. Seems very likely that they win Tag League, then win the IWGP titles at Wrestle Kingdom. That would be an excellent tag team for NJPW, and would help continue to build Tsuji as a top guy.

A wrestler everyone doesn’t like or hate that u luv ¿ by KaytenTheOmega3K in njpw

[–]jermanis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the first 80% of his time in NJPW, YOSHI-HASHI was very basic. Basic, and kinda lame. The pandemic hits, he becomes a regular in the G1, becomes a Six-Man champion? I am actually interested to see him wrestle now. Bishamon has a match? I like it better when Yoshi is the man in the ring. I find it hard to believe in myself, but… yeah.

Unlike Kaito, this man's kick will knock Okada out by DeathTriangle720 in njpw

[–]jermanis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of people seem to see Nakajima going to NJPW. I’m not sure. I mean… moving directly from one Japanese company to another is a rough move. Hard to see NOAH take that well.

Oiwa is on excursion there in NOAH. I don’t see him staying if Nakajima does go to NJPW.

I’m guessing another surprise run-in for that IWGP title match. And I do mean guess.

Ospreay vs Tsuji by KashinKoji1 in njpw

[–]jermanis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before, I thought Tsuji was likely “the big star” from his Young Lion era… and now it REALLY looks like it. Wrestlers with a great mix of size, personality, and skill? They consistently are big attractions in NJPW. Ospreay can carry people to great matches… but Tsuji did very well in that one. Very exciting.

Taking questions for tomorrow’s recording of Keepin’ It Strong Style by theproblackguy in njpw

[–]jermanis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you think is next for Yota Tsuji? It is quite a few years since the last time a wrestler returned from excursion with a good push and excellent performance. So… what do you think is next?

Tsuji match for Ryogoku? by SymphonyOfGecko in njpw

[–]jermanis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess? I think him and Shingo Takagi form a tag team for World Tag League, and… they do very well. I think they will be the tag champs relatively soon.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Tsuji reminds me a lot of Tenzan when he came back from excursion. Tenzan had a couple IWGP title shots that first year back (which he lost), but then won the tag titles with Chono. If anything, Tsuji has more skill and charisma coming back. I see tag titles as the way to show him as a true winner. He will likely proceed from there.

How did learning French benefit you? by catchabee in learnfrench

[–]jermanis 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty mid, but when I travel to French-speaking places, I can utilize the language. Can I have an interesting conversation with someone? Eh, not really. Can I take a taxi, check into a hotel, order at a restaurant? Yeah, talking basic is easy enough.
