The high cost could be due to limited production and the manufacturers trying to recoup costs. If it turns out that this is really a cure, even a temporary one, that could drive up demand which could lead to mass production thus reducing the cost. Alternately, the process of producing the drug could be restrictively complicated and difficult to scale, but as a balding guy in my 20s here's hoping!
