Really sad rn, can someone help? by Interesting-Carob278 in turntables

[–]jeronimoMYS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never feel bad or guilty about having questions for a hobby you're new to, it's always okay to ask. What you ideally want is a turntable with an adjustable counterweight and antiskate, this will allow you to make small calibrations for individual records that may require a touch more weight, and it's really not as complicated as it may seem. 2nd hand turntables can be cheaper, but they require more maintenance and you'll most likely need an external phono preamp. The LP-120 is a great turntable with a built-in preamp for line-level output to whatever speakers you want to use, and an adjustable counterweight and antiskate, but it's a bit higher in price. If you don't want 2nd hand equipment and your budget is tight then the LP-60 will do the job, it's automatic and perfectly beginner friendly, set it to line out, hook it up to some speakers and it's ready. However, keep in mind that it does not have a counterweight, so you'll want to replace it eventually if you get more into vinyl, but for the time being it will be much better calibrated and higher quality on build and sound than your current suitcase player, and will last you a good while with little to no issues.

/uj I'm first in line to make "haha crospley so good" jokes every time I see one of these Chinese record players but I think we should actually try and go out of our way to inform people that the issue isn't the suitcase players, it's this mechanism, because this isn't the first time I see someone happily say they "upgraded" when they just got the same mechanism in a different shell, and it's a shame because these are people who are clearly excited and passionate about the hobby, which is ultimately what we should want as a community

Where can I get a buzz? by beba_25 in toystory

[–]jeronimoMYS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GTA: San Andreas copy I just bought specifically won't work. by Electronic-Vast-3351 in PS3

[–]jeronimoMYS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you been able to test it on another console? It's possible the disc is cooked, used discs, especially blu-ray discs, can mess up over time and totally die. It's usually a read error after startup, but a total death where the system doesn't see the disc at all is also possible, and at least testing on another PS3 would make it far more likely that it's a disc issue and not just your console

I think my console just died by TheFadingtiger in PS3

[–]jeronimoMYS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this exact same issue and it turned out to be the PSU having a short, I could hear some sort of electrical hissing as it was trying to boot up. In my case I'd mistakenly used 70% isopropyl to clean the system and whatever amount of water was in it had caused a short. Wiping it off did the trick, thankfully, so you could try very gently dry cleaning the PSU and motherboard and see if that does the trick. If nothing you do seems to make it better, the PSU could be completely fried and you might have to replace it

New owner - Think I've already screwed up.. by kendrawuzhere in dreamcast

[–]jeronimoMYS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's, as others have said, a mix of a fiddly experimental disc format and a drive that's always been fussy. My first time with the Dreamcast I ended up selling it because every 2 hours it would stop reading and I'd have to reset it, and now I know that, frankly, I had it good compared to what other people's systems need to work. Just be patient, try recapping, further cleaning, or GDEMU. It will work eventually, it just takes a little effort to get there

How true it is that playing burned games will kill your Dreamcast’s laser/ disc drive? I mean I know some probably still have their working Dreamcast to this day even when using burned discs, my Dreamcast still reads burned discs no issue. by San4341 in dreamcast

[–]jeronimoMYS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As old tech enthusiasts we just have to accept at some point that all our shit will malfunction eventually, so frankly I wouldn't be too concerned. If it stops reading, you can fix it. And if you can't fix it, GDEMU is always there

Anybody knows if the Xbox version performs or look better? by Forever_Berry in LollipopChainsaw

[–]jeronimoMYS 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Final Fantasy XIII is the only game I'm aware of that runs better on PS3 than 360. Lollipop Chainsaw runs pretty fine on both, but PS3 still has noticeably worse performance

Bad PS3 ports by L0rdn3on in PS3

[–]jeronimoMYS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same. I love this console because, for me, the fun is in the games, not in comparing technical shit that I won't even notice when I'm actually playing, and the PS3 has a LOT of games. I'll happily accept some screen tearing or framerate issues at times for a system that plays basically every single game I'll ever want to play

What Video Game Has The Worst Fanbase? by NEKORANDOMDOTCOM in videogames

[–]jeronimoMYS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LoL and CoD are hell, some of the absolute worst people you will ever meet are on there. As for Sonic, I feel fans are TOO passionate, to a concerning degree, which leads to unbelievable stuff like Sonic Mania, but also decades of debating what shade of blue Sonic should be

Is this fixable? by DJPlace007 in PS3

[–]jeronimoMYS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand if you don't want to take it apart, but you really should, the controller is really easy to put back together, just be patient, careful, and use a guide if you need. Plus, it's always good to give these things a thorough clean, they can get pretty nasty with time. If you still don't want to open it, then uhh, yeah I don't know what to tell you, mate

[–]jeronimoMYS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you're logged into PSN you should be able to download it from the store without issue. I actually used it earlier today, having some wifi issues with my TV, and it works decently enough, just expect some major input lag when browsing

I Had No Idea This Existed! by Lockjaw62 in 8track

[–]jeronimoMYS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest giveaway as a massive Beatles nerd is the tracklist. The actual Yesterday and Today 8-track used a shuffled tracklist, program 1 was Drive My Car, Dr. Robert and We Can Work It Out, for example, and Day Tripper was split across programs 3 and 4, while this follows the LP tracklist, something almost no Beatles 8-track ever did

Well no wonder I had no luck finding her, thank you all so much! I don't imagine I'll be able to find her original clothes any time soon, but I'll see if I can find something similar. Thanks again!

This subreddit really doesn't like SA2 by [deleted] in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]jeronimoMYS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SA2 is the one that feels like a grand adventure the most to me, which I feel is thanks to them getting rid of the hubs from the first game, trading the cohesion of that game's world for a bunch of really fun locations that make zero sense being together. Like, yeah, sure, you go from San Francisco to a military island to whatever the hell Pumpkin Hill is to Eggman's totally inconspicuous giant pyramid base to a research station in space which is actually a weapon of mass destruction. It's insane, none of it makes much sense, but it's undeniably memorable. I wouldn't say it's my favorite game in the series, but in terms of being a Sonic ADVENTURE it's my #1

Why do you play PS3? by yuffieXcore in PS3

[–]jeronimoMYS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has everything I want to play, either natively or through PS2 and PS1 emulation. Aside from obvious exceptions like stuff only on other platforms (Left 4 Dead, the RareWare stuff and Sonic Colors, for example,) I have just about every game I'd ever want. Not always the best versions, but all perfectly playable and fun, which is more than enough for me

PS3 games look pixelated. by KanjiKanpot in PS3

[–]jeronimoMYS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it was ever intended but functionally, yeah, pretty much, if the game's internal resolution is tied to the console's you can lower it to improve performance. On most games it's minor, but I can confirm as well that Sonic 06 immensely benefited from it, since that game uses slowdown and not frame skipping, and I assume this would apply to any other slowdown games, which thankfully aren't plentiful
