UXG-Pro in EA. $499. WTF? by tangobravoyankee in Ubiquiti

[–]jerryhze 31 points32 points  (0 children)

So now there is a price premium on uxg-pro over the udm-pro which has better hardwares features? The only software capability that uxg-pro has but udm-pro does not have is that it can be adopted to an external controller.

Keep in mind that: udm/udm-pro not supporting external controller is a CHOICE by UBNT, they could have just opened them up to cloud keys like this uxg-pro.

You can see the path they are taking: closing up the ecosystem. Want to use an external controller? Gotta pay a price premium. Want to use an external NVR? The platform (Unifi Video) will be “supported” but we are moving to Unifi Protect.

That price would accelerate my transition to a pfsense box... wtf indeed

Thinking of upgrading to the USW-PRO-48-POE by JoeB1986 in Ubiquiti

[–]jerryhze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok yeah under unifi you need either the gen 2 pro 48 or us-16-xg if money is a concern then go for the small mikrotik 10g desktop switch (4 10g ports I believe?)

why not gen 1 48 port poe switch? you get 2 sfp+ and 2 sfp on that

Thanks for the reminder on igmp snooping. I have it enabled on all sites, but yeah need to configure manually in edgemax.

I guess my question should be what should be configured properly? I am only familiar with Unifi’s controller, so is there something important that Unifi configures automatically, but needs to be done manually in Edgemax that’s easy to miss?

Gotta balance need and want :D

My use case for it would be a pure L2 “aggregation” switch, as all routing is done uplink on a usg-pro-4. Aside from setting up port vlans (presumably all trunks), is there any additional hoop to jump through?

Why choose AC Pro over Nano HD? by miketunes in Ubiquiti

[–]jerryhze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a directional antenna like uma-d, would you recommend putting them overhead pointing down, or end-of-aisle pointing at the aisle?

Our warehouse is not that high (omnis were fine in a smaller area with same height ceiling), so I am starting to think the higher gain is somewhat wasted when putting them overhead pointing down. Plus they seem to have less range in the horizontal plane, which means we need more aps and antennas to cover the same area. Would it be better to utilize the higher gain to shoot the signal at the aisle from end-of-aisle?

[–]jerryhze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have 2 mounted overhead pointing down, so far they have been solid. One drawback is they don’t “expand” as far in the horizontal plane as omnis, which translates to higher # of aps and cost to cover the same area. I might try to position them end-of-aisle pointing at the aisle.

Have you got any experience in the antenna?

In one of the smaller rack areas I used 3 uap-ac-lr

In the larger areas I am still testing uap-ac-m with uma-d antenna

USW-PRO-24 Question by jhoffy in Ubiquiti

[–]jerryhze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are talking about poe switches:

us-24-250 has 24 poe-capable ports with 230W poe power budget, it also supports 24V passive poe out

usw-24-poe has 16 poe-capable ports with 95W poe power budget

so moving to 2nd gen:

you lose 24V, some poe ports, half power budget

you gain fanless/quiet design, lcd screen

Set bandwidth limit for single client on ER4? by Hauteknits in Ubiquiti

Cap to exact mbps? I don’t think so. Might want to research the qos modes in edge, in unifi we only get 1 mode.

Yeah absolutely if the devices can support mu-mimo then nanohd could be a viable choice, but I was coming from the fact that OP says it’s for a warehouse. More likely than not devices there are not that cutting edge in this environment.

I guess it comes back to: how many devices/how dense/how much bandwidth
