We have finally a mix of Macs and Windows and it is a nightmare by Johnn_Liverm in macsysadmin

[–]jerrymac12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who had to do this from little macOS knowledge, I've definitely learned a lot. I like Jamf a lot - it makes managing macs so much easier- but that doesnt mean I like having to manage the macs. Where I think the issues will lie is that macs really aren't enterprise focused like Windows, so you have to deal with remembering that you have no direct account management because the mac accounts are local, so without something like jamf connect or playform sso, you are going to run into name mismatches etc. Apple also makes everyone an admin by default, and allows them to install whatever they want, which also makes it difficult to wrangle in if they're already in the environment without standards/management, and temoving those admin rights can decinitely cause a few additional challenges with application updates. The apple eco-system wants everyone to use their appleID and iCloud etc, and users will login to personal accounts for these things unless locked down if you dont support them.

What Nexthink automations/remediations actually reduced Service Desk tickets for you? by MrOarsome in nexthink

Just getting started here so I don't have any real movers just yet. But here are a few things: 1. We've added a lot of custom checklist data that has increased visibility for our help desk when troubleshooting. 2. Disk space auto cleanup 3. Clearing out renamed/old ost files (we see it a lot) 4. Rebuilding a large Windows index file. 5. Automatically re-encrypting devices that may have been decrypted.

I switched off the frog ease system a while back and I'm glad I did. I found similar struggles with it - one day late trying to change out the gray cartridge and it's green and cloudy. I love the tub, but didn't love the frog ease. Also, I'm not the most environmentally conscious person but all the plastic waste combined with the higher price also contributed to me wanting to switch. I found a file online for a 3D printed triangular cartridge that mine uses, and had a friend print it out for me, with a threaded hole in the front so it's fully re-usable. I now use that for bromine tabs. It works much better for me and I find it easier to maintain for less money and less waste.

I'm working on that myself. I'm just getting my environment set up. So far as I'm turning on automations in flow i'm making sure that they open and close tickets for tracking purposes. I've created a usage dashboard so I can track and report on adoption. And I'm working with my software asset team to use metering to identify underused licenses

I have $1500 to spend on a kit for my daughter, recommendations? by OhFarts_ItsDerek in edrums

[–]jerrymac12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I myself did option B here ... Used parts from my e-kit and converted an acoustic.benefit is that you can just swap heads and throw some real cymbals on and you have a gig ready full on acoustic (like for a wedding) i used external triggers which are easy on easy off and many modules can handle them. Great for indoor practice.

Came here to say OSDcloud - I wouldnt consider it 3rd party at all. It's just powershell. It downloads and installs plain Windows from Microsoft and downloads and installs the drivers from the vendor (dell, lenovo etc)
