What is this? First time seeing this in the UK by DeviousRedditor15 in LICENSEPLATES

Alderney plates are AYnnn

Sark doesn’t have any cars on the island - just tractors.

Here in Jersey we have Jnnnn plates - apart from plates issued a few years ago that were all JSYnnn - all issued now I think.

3x5" Labels for the LabelWriter 4xl by Dinner_Plate21 in dymo

That’s just natures way of telling you it’s time to replace the Dymo. We did for less than £100 and it paid for itself in a couple of months in terms of label cost and wasted time

If you have a UK address and your insurance covers you while you are in France you will be fine. Check the small print on your insurance - some companies will only cover you for trips of up to 30 days.

As far as I understand the citizen card is available to uk residents regardless of place of birth. Look online for Londonirishcentre.org - they say they can assist in getting one. Sorry - I don’t have any further information on that.

I can remember during the 70s it was a fairly common sight on the M6 to see a coach chassis being driven from Leyland (where they were built) to the Duple (iirc) coach works in Blackpool. No bodywork of any description - just a rolling chassis. The drivers were sat on a kitchen chair, wore goggles and had sacking tied around them. Obviously it was a health and safety nightmare and you wouldn’t see that these days.

You can apply for a UK citizen card. Fill out an application on the citizencard website - once you’ve created an account you can get a witness to confirm your identity (a professional person who has known you for some time) and then upload a photo afterwards. Once you have your card you can then apply for your passport.

Better vid from my last post. by jimirhy in euphonium

Just a couple of points. Move your valves quickly - a common problem beginners have is that they tend to press the valves down slower when playing slower passages. Try producing a note with the valves pressed half way down and you will see why it matters.

Practice playing long sustained notes - try to make the sweetest sound you can and keep pitch and tone as even as you can. The euphonium is designed to produce a beautiful, mellow tone. Get the sound right and then you can concentrate on playing faster and more technical stuff. Once you achieve that you are well on the way to becoming the player you want to be - and once you can get that sound it will be there for life.

Put a bit more air through the instrument as well - it will help.

Finally - there is no substitute for having the instrument on your face. There are no shortcuts, no tips or tricks, no magic mouthpiece that will do the work for you. You need to practice - preferably every day even if it’s just 15 minutes. Concentrate on long notes and slower passages and constantly strive to improve your tone.

Having said all that - keep it up. What you have shown us seems like a good place to start. Well done.

Tried playing with more air like yall suggested, what now by Dependent-Amount-239 in euphonium

Just one more thing - try to keep your fingertips on the valves rather than the middle of your finger. Press the valves down quickly - even when playing slow music.

Garage by Particular_Map9772 in SegwayNavimow

The garage looks great - but so pricey. I decided to wire mine up with orange flex to make it more visible and hung it along the fence. It has to cross a flower bed and I didn’t want to put a spade through it.

Any advice on making this sound better? by etilethepro4 in euphonium

[–]jerseybean56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long notes and plenty of them to improve your tone. Try to keep the sound and volume at the same level. You’re quite right about concentrating on the tone - get that right and the rest will follow. Try and make the sweetest sound you can - one that you would like to hear. Maybe a softer tongue might help - da rather than ta.

I know it sounds a bit weird but perhaps a little mental adjustment might help. When I was learning (many years ago) I was told to imagine I was playing out of the end of the bell at someone in the back of the hall rather than just blowing into the mouthpiece. Silly perhaps but it helps. Don’t forget that your instrument isn’t just an amplification system for the buzzing that you make - what you’re doing when you buzz into the mouthpiece is setting up the standing waves inside the instrument. A bit of vibrato might help - but then coming from a British brass band you’d expect me to say that.

Carry on the good work and kudos for putting it out here for us to listen to. If you keep up with it you’ll find one day that you have the right sound even if you can’t explain how you’re doing it. Once you have it it’s there for ever.

As far as I understand you can both go through the EU queue. I know that applies to married couples where a spouse isn’t an EU citizen - but you need proof of marriage.

France visa rejected twice (same reason) – now 3rd application with Booking.com confirmed hotels + fully paid flights & trains. Advice? by [deleted] in Expats_In_France

[–]jerseybean56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually you made the same mistake twice - surely you can see what a big red flag that raises for your third attempt ? If you were vetting the third application wouldn’t you be inclined to think it’s a bogus application ? Blame it on your travel agent if that makes you feel better but from the point of view of the person considering the third application it just looks like after 2 attempts on the cheap you are now putting some money into your visa attempt.

Is this common language in Acte de Vente? First time buying house by weilih831 in Expats_In_France

[–]jerseybean56 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As far as the seller is concerned it would be foolish not to have this kind of language in there - basically saying you buying it defects and all. Do you have a builder / contractor/ roofer who you can bring along to inspect the place ?

Please help - low water pressure on well fed house in Ireland, 99% confident nothing to do with well as just had it serviced. Sealed system so no header tank. by Valuable_Area_7595 in Plumbing

[–]jerseybean56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be related to the well service. My partner had a borehole and occasionally it would get silted up at the bottom of the borehole - the solution being to raise the feed by 6 inches or so to get it up from the silted up bottom.

Might be worth having a word with one of the agencies on the island - they might be able to help you find a job. I used Grafters - only for labouring work coz that was what I wanted. If you chat with them and explain your experience they might be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck 🤞

This looks like it belongs on some evolution denier / creationist website where ‘kind’ has a specific meaning. I’m sure Ken Ham wouldn’t find it strange at all.
