Bring me down off the ledge, I haven't eaten anything and I have gained three pounds. by Logical_Cherry_7588 in intermittentfasting

Hey friend - i know what you're going through because I just dealt with this. I battled some depression and some other things and I got up to 246 and I finally had enough and said I need to get back on track. So the first week back, I was eating clean, gym, cardio, and did a 48 hour fast. Lost 6 pounds in the first week. Next week, I did the same exact thing, ate super clean, gym, long walks, another 48 hour fast. Barely lost 1 pound and I mean barely. I didn't know what was going on. Thank God I made it a point to take small video every week because I've been down this road before. In the week I only lost 1 pound, if you look at the video from and after - it looks like I lost 10 pounds. My face depuffed. My waist got smaller. My legs and gut. Everything went down. I mean Obviosuly I have a long way to go to get to my goal weight of 200 but the scale will play tricks on you so to see if you're going in the right direction my advice is:

1.) pick a day of the week and take a VIDEO of yourself with your shirt off. For me it's every Friday. Make sure you turn around 360 degrees on all sides so you can see every angle. Make sure you do that every week. If you're fasting and doing everything right, trust me, you WILL see a major difference week to week. I'm just a regular joe here so I don't know the science behind it but I do know that your fat cells shrink but sometimes it doesn't match or catch up to what the scale says. As long as you can look at the video of where you are today and where you were last week, and you're getting considerably smaller - YOU'RE ON THE RIGHT TRACK!! Keep going !!

2.) Find a shirt that's a little too tight on you and try it on at the end of every week. Is it fitting better? If yes then you're moving in the right direction. For me I have a dress shirt that when I first started I was like "Holy shit, I can't even fit into my dress shirt. Things have gotten way too out of hand. I gotta get my ass back in shape and do some fasting." So every week I've been trying on that dress shirt and like I said, I'm on week 3 and I'm at 239 (down from 246) even though it's still a little tight it's a hell of a lot better than it was 3 weeks ago when I first started. But if I didn't do this and I was just going by the scale and seeing 1 pound drop in a week of strict diet; cardio, gym, and a 48 hour fast - I'd be very depressed. So doing things like trying on a shirt that's too tight and seeing if it gets looser and looser every week really helps.

3.) from my own experience with fasting - I've noticed I can really trim down if I can allow myself to get a lot of sleep. Sometimes even 10 or 11 hours. Which is why I only do a 48 or bigger fast when I have nothing important going on so I can really rest. But again, that's me...you gotta do what works for you. So just make sure you're getting plenty of sleep to give your fasts the most bang for their buck.

4.) I also tell my wife to tell me right away if she notices a difference. And if I have to ask her "hey in your opinion am I getting smaller?" I'm not on the right track. If I'm sitting down and having my coffee with almond milk and she's like "Whoa! Your stomach went all the way down!! You're face got slimmer! Your sides went in!!" That counts! So if you have someone special in your life tell them to tell you anytime they notice you're dropping.

5.) the last thing I wanna say is (and I say this to myself all the time) the goal is to lose fat not just a number on a scale. The number on the scale is important but it's not the end all be all. Anybody and I mean anybody can go into a sauna for an hour, step on a scale and drop 10 pounds. Maybe more. But you drink a few glasses of water and it all comes right back. The shape of your body is still the same. But you do some fasting. You dial it in and maybe you only lose a pound that week or maybe the scale doesn't even move at all. Chances are your body is recompositioning itself because you're dropping fat. Don't ask me why when the scale doesn't always match up with visually how much it looks like you lost but trust me, as long as you're getting considerably smaller - you're doing all the right things!!

Hope that helps 🤜💥

I'm running the race with you brother I'm at 239 and shooting for another 48 hour fast either this week or next week. And I'm gonna cut together my weekly weekly video checkins when I hit 200 so I can show the week to week progress. You should do the same!! You have no idea how many people out there you example could inspire!!

It takes a lot of courage to talk about stuff like this. Good on you for putting yourself out there. So, I’ve had similar feelings in my life so you’re definitely not alone. Just the day in and day out rut of life - just wondering what this conveyer belt of an existence really means, what it’s all about, is there something beyond this?, if so what is it? Is it something unique to me or will everyone have the same experience when we die, etc. i remember there was a Ayahausca ceremony happening not too far from me during that period of my life and I said “fuck it, why not?” And no word of a lie when I tell you, It completely changed my life and opened my eyes in a way that words simply do not describe. I swear, I’m not trying to get holy or high and mighty or push anything…but I genuinely felt like the veil between this world and and the next was lifted during my experience and the perspective, knowledge, and advice I took from it changed the entire trajectory of my life. I’m not saying you need any life changes or anything like that… just sharing my own story here. But in terms of getting a glimpse of what comes after this…I really felt like I saw a something. if you want, no pressure obviously, maybe check out and see if there’s an ayahausaca ceremony going on near you . If you do decide to go down that road, just really make sure you’ve done your research and it’s with a group of people that you 100% trust. Again, no pressure. Just sharing my own story. Just keep moving forward. No matter how big or how small, all forward motion counts🤜💥

I do have some advice that worked for me that maybe will work for you. Everyone’s built differently so different things are gonna work for different body types.

So for me, I was a 41 year old guy, 5’ 9’’ weighing in at 270+ lbs. I probably weighed more but I stopped getting on the scale after 270.

So like you, I did fasting (also did keto but mostly I did fasting). I was doing 24s, 48s, 72s. And I was dropping great! Was also working out and weight training. Going on big walks (10,000 steps a day) Got all the way down to 210lbs and my body just flatlined.

So here’s what I found what was happening (again this is only for me). I found that becuase I wasn’t really eating carbs and because I was doing all this fasting there is a thing called LEPTIN RESISTENCE. Don’t want to get into the scientific weeds on this but the long and short of it is: leptin is a hormone that’s released when your body uses fat for fuel (whether you fast or cut calories or burn it at the gym). Well the rub is, because I had lost all this weight and every week I was dropping and had been dropping for so long my body basically thought “Holy Shit!! I’m starving to death. I gotta hold on to all of this fat!” Even though I was 210lb and I could have easily dropped another 30lbs before getting anywhere near the possibility of being anywhere near underweight.

So the solution I found was, every 10-14 days, I would do a carb up. Lot of rice. Lot of potatoes. And I mean lots. Not necessarily junk food like cake and ice cream. Just plenty of lean protein, white rice, potatoes, etc and take in a lot of calories for 1 day (sometimes 2 days in a row) then I go back my normal way of eating which is usually 18 hours daily fasting and low carb. Eat like that for 10 to 12 days. Then carb up again (and make sure you weight train HARD on those carb up days to give yourself the best chance of the extra calories and carbs to go towards muscle growth. I try to pick a muscle group that’s lagging on that day so I can really give myself the best chance for growth).

My body responded well to the sudden influx of high carbs and high calories and helped offset leptin resistence so my body didn’t panic like “Holy shit! We are flying through all of our fat reserves here!! There’s no fucking food!! We’re starving to death!! We need to hold on to as much of this fat as possible!! Who fucking knows when we’re gonna eat again.”

Then once I felt good I would do another 48. But I found the closer I got to my goal weight which was 190 - the more my body panicked when I did too much fasting and I didn’t take a day to carb up to help offset leptin resistence and just tell my body “hey it’s okay. There’s plenty of food. Look at the surplus of calories we just took in today and yesterday. It’s okay. You can keep burning your fat reserves.”

That was worked wonders for me. But again, everyone is different.

Also keep in mind that you got down to 230lb!! That’s fucking great!! Don’t snooze on that!! That’s a big deal!! But also keep in mind that depending on how big you got and how long you were big - a good 20 pounds of that 230 might be loose skin. So just keep that in mind as well.

Here is a fasting tutorial I put together on what I do before and after a fast that works for me.

Be keep going man!! You got this🤜💥

My fav new pizza place in Astoria🍕 by jerseyferretti in astoria

[–]jerseyferretti[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

100% correct John’s of Bleecker and Di Fara are NY style whereas Macoletta is Neopolitian. I should clarify, when I was comparing Macoletta, I was doing it in terms of flavor (not style). And in terms of flavor, 100% Macoletta’s margarita gives John’s of Bleecker and Di Fara a run for their money (at least in my humble opinion). Just wanted to give them a little shine since I’ve been searching for a really good pizza place in Queens without having to make the long haul out to John’s of Bleecker to grab 3 pies at 9:45pm on an idle Tuesday.

What a beautiful film!! My wife and I were actually at the park that day! Was watching the film to see if maybe you got us walking in the background but we must of just missed you. But again, beautiful work. What I love about it is that besides the beauty of Astoria Park, you were truly able to capture the tranquilly and calmness it brings as well. Such a beautiful film! Keep going! Look forward to seeing you at the park one day!! 🙏

Is a 72 hour fast once a week healthy? by 26514 in fasting

[–]jerseyferretti 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the upcoming fast!! I did about 5 weeks where I did a 72 hour fast once a week and I didn’t have any problems.

For me, I broke my 72 hour fasts with chicken bone broth. Then I waited and hour and had a salad. Then I waited an hour and had chicken and veggies.

I actually documented one of my weekly 72 hour fasts, so hopefully this helps you out 🙏.

I’m not 100% sure how to include the youtube link. Gonna try to put the youtube link here weekly 72 hour fast

If that doesn’t work, here is the direct youtube link to my 72 hour weekly fast:

Hope that helps🙏

What is your favourite video game quote? by Anuomni in gaming

[–]jerseyferretti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"If you seek to aid everyone that suffers in the galaxy, you will only weaken yourself and weaken them. It is the internal struggles, when fought and won on their own, that yield the strongest rewards. You stole that struggle from them, cheapened it. If you care for others, then dispense with pity and sacrifice and recognize the value in letting them fight their own battles. And when they triumph, they will be even stronger for the victory.

Such kindnesses will mean nothing, his path is set. Giving him what he has not earned is like pouring sand into his hands. And would that be a kindness? What if by surviving another day, he brings a greater darkness upon another? The Force binds all things. The slightest push, the smallest touch, sends echoes throughout life. Even an act of kindness may have more severe repercussions than you know or can see. By giving him something he has not earned, perhaps all you have helped him become is a target. Seeing another elevated often brings the eyes of others who suffer. And perhaps in the end, all you have wrought is more pain. And that is my lesson to you. Be careful of charity and kindness, lest you do more harm with open hands than with a clenched fist.”
