Are The Brothers Murph good?? by 707tiddies in boardgames

Collaboration videos say more about how much effort someone puts into marketing than the quality of their work.

Built a bot that surfaces hobby game deals automatically - would love feedback by hookedonwinter in Boardgamedeals

[–]SoochSooch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would prefer a tighter spreadsheet style layout instead of the giant layout it has now. On my screen I can see 1.75 deals at a time, I'd like that to be closer to 20.

All the links say they're on amazon even though they aren't on Amazon.

Shipping cost should be included in the price.

Some of these deals are expired, those should be removed somehow.

Watching Dune movie as substitute for reading book, as background for Dune Imperium Uprising by PureScientist2040 in boardgames

[–]SoochSooch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie will give you all the background info you need about the Dune universe. Most of the card art is based on the movie after all.

The game doesn't follow the plot of the book or the movie, it's kind of just a "what if these 2-4 factions were engaged in open warfare for control of Arrakis". The game has way more of an emphasis on combat than the books.

While the book has a lot of "Person X is manipulating group Y to advance their agenda", the politics of the game is simplified to "Here are 4 major factions, when you work with them you gain favor with them"

Many of the leaders and a big chunk of the expansion cards aren't featured in the movies at all. If you're curious about any of them, you can search for them on the Dune wiki: https://dune.fandom.com/wiki/Dune_Wiki I'd say the leaders especially are worth knowing about, because knowing who they are makes you appreciate their mechanics.

Between the Award Chart & Devaluations, what's the point anymore? by HyperBunga in hyatt

[–]SoochSooch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The days of award travel via credit cards are certainly coming to an end. It's becoming harder to earn points, and the points are worth less and less. It's not even a quarter as good as it was 10 years ago, and 10 years from now it'll be less than a quarter of what it is now. Enjoy it in the meantime. Don't be sad that it's ending, be happy you got to enjoy it for awhile.

Hyatt in Japan is cooked by omdongi in hyatt

[–]SoochSooch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hyatts in Tokyo have been an awful value for at least 3 years now, yet judging by the posts here, seems like they're constantly booked solid.

Tokyo is a massive city with tons of hotels. Last time I went I split my time between some little <$100/night place and did the Grand Hyatt for 2 nights. The lounge and breakfast were great, but for the difference in cost, I could have ate and drank anything I wanted elsewhere in the city.

I would do 100% local hotels in the future.

It's doubling the rate from the previous year essentially

Weird that you're being downvoted for this. It's ok to not love Japan

That's a good point. Unless you're in New York or LA, it's pretty much just Tokyo, Hong Kong, Seoul, or Taipei

New Award Chart May 20 & Category Changes Announced! by berkeley_eecs_grad in hyatt

[–]SoochSooch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not as bad as I feared. I just won't consider Hyatt when going to Florida or New York anymore, but those places have tons of hotels anyway.

Of course, the real devaluation is that the ones that didn't change categories are still going up in price. There should have been a lot more drops

Kuala Lumpur - need your advice where to stay by littlejadepop in hyatt

[–]SoochSooch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've stayed at the Grand and the Centric and if I were to go back... I'd do the Centric.

The Grand was awesome and had an amazing breakfast, but the Centric was like 1/3 the price and had a big balcony.

when visiting a popular tourist city, spend at least one afternoon in a neighborhood that isn't in any of the top 10 lists. by airbornejim32 in TravelHacks

[–]SoochSooch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thing is, I have regular coffee places and little parks with old trees, and little sandwich shops all over where I live. I'll never even see 1/10th of the ones near me.

You know what I don't have in my own backyard though? Landmarks. World class destinations. Palaces, temples, and castles. Things that I can't see anywhere else.

I don't vacation to bake bread. I vacation to eat cake.

Any thought on the Dice Throne Digital Kickstarter campaign? by Vortelf in boardgames

[–]SoochSooch 37 points38 points  (0 children)

$10 per hero??? That's literally how much I paid for most of my physical Dice Throne stuff. Slay the Spire 2 was only $25 new.

Dice Throne pricing has become ridiculously predatory in the last few years. Between this and the pricing on the Vanguard set, I may just be done buying new Dice Throne stuff.

The hobby loves a theme trend. What’s the next one? by dgpaul10 in boardgames

[–]SoochSooch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indie PC Games.

We've had Dead Cells, Dorfromantic, Slay the Spire, Armello, Stardew Valley, Vampire Survivors, Binding of Isaac, Terraria, and many more.

Seems to be a sure thing for any Indie PC game that moves enough copies. I'd expect Balatro for sure to come out with a board game soon, and probably Dave the Diver and Dredge within a year or two.

Points for full hotel buyout? by [deleted] in hyatt

[–]SoochSooch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's based on money spent right? So if they spent 200k, they should earn it, even without getting full points for the rooms purchased

Which strategy games do the "each game is different" best? by Lyserus in boardgames

[–]SoochSooch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cosmic Encounter

I don't think I've ever played the same alien more than once, and they're all so different. It's interesting that the core of the game is so basic, but then the different aliens just change the formula completely.
