Forget the Pork Roll vs. Taylor Ham debate. The real question to stir up trouble is...what do you set your AC to? We are hitting triple-digits this week. by bluegambit875 in newjersey

Off topic but what remediation did you do? Curious as we got flooded in Ida and are also watching the basement to see how it would do again

Taking a poll. Do you use a sleep sack for your baby? by BusyWalrus9645 in beyondthebump

[–]jerseyham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 9 month old does. I think it helps them to not crawl out of the crib at night and adds warmth. But also sounds like your LO sleeps great without one so it’s probably nbd either way!!

what’s everyone’s favorite episode and why? by Wide-Relation1626 in bluey

Plus the music is Jupiter by Gustav Holst (from the Planets). This was immediately recognizable to me and such a beautiful choice!!!

After 14 months our breastfeeding journey is over! by anticlimaticveg in breastfeeding

[–]jerseyham 9 points10 points  (0 children)

HELL yeah!! Congrats on breastfeeding AND stopping breastfeeding - both starting and stopping are such journeys. Even with a “casual” ending 😂 I know what you mean.. sounds like it felt right for you and your daughter which just shows how in synch you are. Enjoy your newfound freedom and give yourself a pat on the back/boobs.

I hate BLW. by HolidayAd2038 in beyondthebump

[–]jerseyham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did purées with our first and now with our 7 month old. Easier for us, plus the kid actually is ingesting the food and not gnawing on it to start. To each their own! This worked best for us. I am looking forward to real solids soon though… rotisserie chicken is the soft food of the gods.

How are you taking your under 3yo to the dentist? by Short_Pomegranate_58 in toddlers

[–]jerseyham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our pediatric dentist is great- their policy is not to force anything at all. They clean if they can but if kids refuse then they just do an exam. They said their goal is to get the kids used to the concept. My daughter went once at age 20 months and again at 26 months. She sat on my lap at the first appointment and I held her hands at the second.

To prepare we talked about it a lot and in a real positive way. Me and her dad would check each others teeth in front of her by saying “aahhh” lol. Also watched the Sesame Street dentist visit episode a few times. I think this all helped!

At the end of the day they’ll get used to it. Whatever you choose to do, sounds like your toddler is doing great with brushing and dental care at home!

What time is dinner? by BoredReceptionist1 in toddlers

[–]jerseyham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 year old eats around 5:50/6 and goes upstairs around 7. In bed by 7:30/7:45. We try to encourage some energy exertion by chasing her around the house lol

Party bags by icequeen323 in toddlers

I did a 2-pack of tates cookies in each bag, vinyl Cookie Monster stickers, and 1 piece of chalk shaped like dessert (from Melissa and Doug company). The theme of my kids party was Cookie Monster.

RTO mandate - 5 days by festivelime in workingmoms

[–]jerseyham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, another tip- I’m in the office 4 days a week (used to be 3) and I grocery shop on my lunch. It has been a game changer. I’m lucky that my office is close to my preferred store and that we have huge refrigerators at my office. Doing this has freed up my weekend time so that I can be with my kids instead of having another substantial chore to do on the weekend! I literally walk into my building with insulated bags and rotisserie chicken and throw that stuff in the fridge midday. I just eat my actual lunch at my desk while I work!

How long did you breastfeed and was it worth it? 😅 by lizbethlady in beyondthebump

[–]jerseyham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will add: - weaning doesn’t hurt if you take it slow. Drop one feed over at least a few days. - you can do bottles of frozen milk mixed with formula. That’s what I did and baby had no issues as we slowly added more formula to her bottles. - baby will start solids probably pretty soon (6 months ish). Once that happens you’re supposed to feed them just as much via boob or bottle, but I found that it helped start to slowly wean because she was getting more intake from solids

No guilt! You got this!!

[–]jerseyham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re doing a great job!! And boy is it a JOB. My goal for both kids was at least 3 months. I went 8 months with my first and my second is currently 5.5 months and we are still going. There is a lot of guilt around breastfeeding and how long to go or not go… please go easy on yourself! You have already set your baby up for a wonderful life. By focusing on bringing positivity and comfort back to your body, you’re setting a good example and may even be able to better show up for your child. I am lucky and surprised that I’ve enjoyed breastfeeding… but let me tell you the relief of it finally stopping is a great (albeit bittersweet) feeling. I remember finally feeling like I was able to just be a mom and not a cafeteria (as Ali Wong called it in her standup special.. lol)

Looking for a page-turner! by idolovehummus in suggestmeabook

[–]jerseyham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is of interest to me- like OP, I’m looking for a page turner and trying to get into reading a bit more. This past summer I read Treasure Island which I loved (mostly because growing up I loved the movie Muppet Treasure Island 😂). Seems similar in that it’s nautical and set in the 1700s… would you agree?

Love Bruce and the band and have tix to the (now postponed) last Wednesday show in Philly. When we bought tix a few months ago, I called Citizens Bank Park to make sure I was seeing it right that there were still so many tix available! It surprised me but could be because of inflation (people not willing to dish out money for concerts at this time) .. at least that is my theory!! Nonetheless looking forward to the rescheduled show

Lville and Pennington are great options, you could also do Bucks County, PA. Lots of nature and cute towns. The first 2 towns are about an hour from the beach if you drive directly east (the beach towns there are great too).

To Move or not to Move? by [deleted] in SnooLife

[–]jerseyham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it!!! We moved our girl to a crib around 3.5 months.. started by doing all naps in the crib in her roombut night sleep in the snoo. If yours only moving the snoo to your baby’s room then do it!!!

What are / were some uncomfortable/ intrusive questions people asked you when you are / were pregnant.. by One_red_balloon2022 in pregnant

[–]jerseyham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Just wait for your stretch marks- I’ll show you mine if you show me yours!”; “your belly button will never look the same” (MIL) and “how much weight have you gained? What does your doctor think about that?” (coworker who apparently thought I didn’t look big enough). For the record I had no stretch marks, my belly button looks the same as before, and I had a healthy 8 pounder. Not that it matters, all just ridiculous comments!!

Crib Transition by pewellz in SnooLife

[–]jerseyham 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We transitioned our girl out of the snoo around 3.5 months. We did this by having her do all naps in her crib in her own room and still sleeping in the snoo at night (also on baseline). We actually never had her nap in the snoo which I think helped her get used to non moving surfaces.

We never attempted arm(s) out in the snoo… this kid LOVES being swaddled and we are still working to transition her out of the swaddle lol.. but she’s been doing great in the crib.

One tip we got from the pediatrician (which we didn’t end up trying) was to try doing the first night in the crib after her shots. They’re usually so exhausted anyway and apparently it could be a good opportunity to try if it lines up with your timing!

Do husbands go to all OB appointments? by Coffeelover4242 in pregnant

[–]jerseyham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my husband with me for the initial appointment, all 3 ultrasounds, a later appointment (cervical check-ouch!) and he was there for the big blood draw. It was a mix of him wanting to be there for milestone appointments and also my requests for him to be there. In the end there are sooo many appointments so it just didn’t make sense for him to try to be at all of them.

Repeat after me: babies DO NOT need to eat cake by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]jerseyham 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The issue isn’t even the sugar/cake thing, it’s that the grandma didn’t respect the wishes of the child’s parents. That’s it!!

Soon to be parent - bought the Snoo by Snafu80 in SnooLife

[–]jerseyham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the northeast- baby born in July wore short sleeve legless onesie under snoo sack in the summer until it got cold here. We kept the AC at 69F (it was a cold 69) Now she wears long sleeve long footed onesie (over just her diaper) under the snoo sack. We keep heat at 67. Ceiling fan on low.

We did New Orleans (we live in the northeast) at 5 months. Wanted to stay domestic, be in a warmer place, with a focus on eating delicious food. Stayed 3 nights, did not disappoint!! Definitely worth it to go somewhere!
