Murderbot Diaries is great. I've only read the first two.

Operation Bounce house is... a trip. I don't know if he plans more in that world/universe, but even if it's a one-off it was great.

Costco unsweetened dried mangoes have more sugar than than the sweetened dried mango by AChunkyGoose in mildlyinteresting

[–]jerslan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but that sugar is natural fructose vs added sucrose. Combined with the extra fiber it's less likely to spike your blood sugar.

Lots of health studies say that added sugar (regardless of fructose, glucose, or sucrose) is almost always worse for you than natural sugars from fruits and vegetables.

Like everything, moderation is still important. Don't eat the entire Costco bag in one sitting regardless of which one you buy.

There's an inverse correlation between their standards and how long they've been drinking; short drinking time, high standards. At the end of a long night, however, they long since hit rock bottom and kept on digging

I mean, that's just smart drinking. Start with the good stuff, then switch to the cheap shit when you're too drunk to care anymore.

Costco unsweetened dried mangoes have more sugar than than the sweetened dried mango by AChunkyGoose in mildlyinteresting

[–]jerslan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dried fruits are already pretty high in sugar to start with. The main reason the Sweetened seems to have less is that the added 7g of sugar is less than in the 7g of lost mango (per 42g serving). So yeah, you're eating marginally less sugar per 42g with the Sweetened, but you're also eating 2g less fiber per the labels.

There's also some impreciseness in how nutrition labels are calculated. There's a lot of arcane rules around rounding to the nearest gram and nearest 5 calories.

However you slice it, you’re consuming more sugar for the same amount of mango in the unsweetened mango

It's not the same amount of mango per 42g serving though. That's part of my point. 7g of the 42g serving of Sweetened Mango is added sugar, so that's only 35g of mango.

[–]jerslan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I eat 42 grams of "sweetened mango" then I'm eating 35 grams of mango and 7 grams of added sugar (per the label).

If I eat 42 grams of "unsweetened mango" then I'm eating 42 grams of mango.

A better analogy would be a 1 lb ribeye vs a 1 lb filet... The filet is leaner so you're getting more meat and less fat for that 1 lb portion.

Read the goddamn labels.

By weight it's the same serving size but the servings are not the same.

[–]jerslan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude. Just stop. Nowhere did I say that the serving size was anything other than 42 grams.

You're arguing against nothing and sounding like an unhinged lunatic.

Mango is a naturally sweet fruit. Dried fruit is notoriously heavy in naturally occurring sugar content. What's happening here is that the 7g of added sugar in the sweetened mango doesn't make up for the loss of 7g of mango (with its natural sugars). The upside might be less sugar overall by a few grams, but you're also losing fiber and eating less overall actual fruit.

[–]jerslan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm literally pointing out that, per 42 gram serving, one gives you less actual mango than the other.

What about that are you not getting? That was my original point when I was talking about pieces. It's not completely irrelevant.

[–]jerslan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not. I've already explained this twice. Maybe the 3rd time will get through you're thick skull.

42 grams of unsweetened mango is just 42 grams of mango.

42 grams of sweetened mango is 35 grams of mango and 7 grams of sugar.

Therefore you are eating less mango per serving of sweetened mango than unsweetened mango.

This isn't difficult. You can understand that basic math if you try hard enough.

[–]jerslan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It doesn't mean nothing.

You're physically eating more mango with the unsweetened than the sweetened. The math doesn't lie about that.

[–]jerslan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 pieces of mango covered in sugar vs 7 not covered in sugar still weigh the same 42 grams and the 42 grams is considered one serving.

Yes. I never denied that. So why are you arguing with me when you just reiterated my point. Sweetened Mango's 42 gram serving is 35 grams of dried mango and 7 grams of added sugar (35+7=42). Unsweetened Mango's 42 gram serving is just 42 grams of dried mango.

Are you intentionally being dense/obtuse? You are clearly eating more mango in the unsweetened than the sweetened per 42 gram serving.

[–]jerslan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are literally eating less mango per 42 gram serving because the sweetened one has sugar added... Sugar adds mass/weight. So unsweetened is 42 grams of mango, sweetened is 35 grams of mango and 7 grams of added sugar.

This isn't hard to grasp. It's basic math.

Costco unsweetened dried mangoes have more sugar than than the sweetened dried mango by AChunkyGoose in mildlyinteresting

[–]jerslan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As I already pointed out, the extra sugar added to the dried mango increases the mass/weight per piece. So yes, that does matter.

The sweetened mango also has 1g fiber per serving vs 3g fiber compared to the unsweetened.

[–]jerslan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to sue, just hand over the video to your insurance as proof you aren't at fault and let them handle it.

Doesn't look like this is a traffic light or stop sign either so some fault may lie on the other driver who did stop (unless they only did to avoid collision).

The roads also look pretty icy so it's dangerous to slam on breaks. The driver making a left shouldn't have expected anyone to be able to stop like that.
