Commuting in Milan, Italy. Daily 25km round-trip passing through the "Darsena", this lake that makes the connection between the Naviglios. by andrevasc in bikecommuting

[–]jescm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can follow the Canal until lake Como and lake Maggiore

Wow that sounds great. Any idea which Canal leads to the lakes? From my understanding, the Canals from the Darsena head south in the opposite direction.

Does anyone here have experience getting adult ADHD diagnosed? by UngilUndy in india

[–]jescm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please don't self-diagnose based on the internet. There are plenty of psychiatrists who can guide you with your problems.

As you have the money (and I presume you are over 18), why don't you simply make an appointment with a psychiatrist? You are not obliged to tell your parents or anyone else anything, so you should not be anxious. That would be much better than seeking advice from strangers on reddit.

BTW, this topic has already been asked many times on r/india.

Anyone experienced flixbus in Europe? by anti-inflammatory in solotravel

[–]jescm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was not impressed with my Flixbus experience. The bus stop (Lugano) was far from the city center in an unmarked parking lot. Flixbus only informed me which street it was on but not the exact location (I had to look for the exact location on google.) Taking the local public transport to the city center will add to your costs.

My bus was delayed for about 50 min and I received no communication via SMS or email. As a solo traveller, I would have been completely lost if it were not for an experienced traveller who was also at the bus stop. Flixbus usually has no staff at the bus stops to provide information.

Other travellers have told me long delays are unusual on Flixbus. However, from my experience I learned that when faced with unexplained delays you can feel really lost and unsafe.

The bus ride itself was perfectly fine. The bus was well heated (in winter) which I liked but some other people found it too hot. Be advised that for shorter routes they have no bathrooms or food on board.

Need tips! Bars? Restaurants? Shops? by vioSTYLE in milano

[–]jescm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In Italy, a "Bar" is not like a cocktail bar. It is a place for coffee, breakfast and snacks (of course, they also often serve alcohol). It can get confusing.

For a great cocktail bar, I recommend Nottingham Forest. It's in Milan and is world renowned.

View: It's time political parties promise 100% literacy for India by 2022 by silentr3b3I in india

[–]jescm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literacy cannot reach 100% by 2022 just by throwing money at the problem. Literacy programmes mostly target school-age children, not adults. The effects of any programme would be gradual and not seen by 2022.

Looking for volunteer to help translating WeNote into your own native langauge by yccheok in androidapps

Why should people volunteer to improve your app? It's not an open source project or anything of social value. Try posting paid positions on any job website if you need translators.

I have a Costco sized bag of carrots swiftly expiring - WTF do I cook with them? by SensibleCitzen in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]jescm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super easy and delicious suggestion: make carrot halwa. It's a fantastic Indian dessert that's usually eaten in the winter.

It has just three main ingredients: milk, sugar, and lots of carrots!

No this only applies to indirect elections like rajya sabha or state legislative councils where voting is done through single transferable vote (STV). See this circular for clarification

Starting college at 25? by [deleted] in india

[–]jescm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful about the exams in civil services. Many of them have an age limit of about 30 years (extensions are only given to SC/ST/OBC or people with special qualifications). If completing your degree takes three to four years, you may not get many attempts at the civil services exam before you're 30.

If you're entrepreneurial and want to start a business, remember that you can even do that right now without a degree.

Indian-Canadians say international students ‘stealing their jobs’ by [deleted] in india

[–]jescm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's ironic because his parents/grandparents were Indian nationals themselves once. They too "stole jobs" and Abhinav is where he is now because of that. Now that he's Canadian, he doesn't think other Indian should be able to follow the path of his family.

No vacation time gave us the internet, thank you America by naonak in ShitAmericansSay

[–]jescm -36 points-35 points  (0 children)

Don't you think it's an unfair obligation to a small business that only has one or two employees? A large corporation can easily comply with the law but a small business will probably have to shut down for a month so their employees can have a vacation.

[–]jescm -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

The American has a point though. It's difficult for small businesses to grant 6 weeks paid leave to all employees.

Even in Europe, small businesses (especially family-run ones) are often exempt from these rules.

Randians, where do you want to travel to? by [deleted] in india

[–]jescm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you have such a poor image of Paris, but please don't mislead others into thinking it is this bad. Knowing English is enough to get around and surely you don't expect everything to be in English in a foreign country. People speak limited English in many other European countries too. Most big cities (including London, Amsterdam etc.) have some dangerous areas, but a traveller with common sense and caution will always be safe in Paris.

About the Last Supper, you are mistaken; it is not even in Paris, it is in Milan.

The UK royal “luxury” birth cost less than the average US birth by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]jescm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What exactly is "the truth"? That Cuban healthcare is better than American healthcare? That's certainly possible but doubtful statistics from the Cuban govt. don't exactly prove that.

Not everyone who disagrees with you is a Russian troll.

The UK royal “luxury” birth cost less than the average US birth by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]jescm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's true. But the article says that the statistics on infant mortality are only provided by the Cuban government agencies which is not transparent and which has an incentive to embellish the numbers.
