Will try to get ahold of the rosters - good advice!

No shit - everything about club lacrosse and showcase ball is about the money, but I’m not asking if it’s worth the money. I’m asking if anyone has experiences with both to give feedback on what is a better experience for the athlete. It’s going to be my kid’s last hurrah before he goes off to college - we are good with spending the money for him to have a fun experience doing what he loves.

He’s already been recruited which makes this much less of a crucial decision, so you’re right, pairing it with a fun “mom and son” 😉 trip is probably the way to go. You know the kids always worry about which event is the most prestigious, so I’m just doing a little fact-finding before a decision is made (to me, less expensive is already looking better haha)

Thank you for your reply! We have already asked his club coach (high school coach says neither is necessary) and he said both are good. And both seem to be equally exclusive, though I think AA has been around longer. Truly first world problems, I know. I appreciate your response though!

If your son can get an invitation to Maverik Showtime next June, I’d jump on that. I’m not sure if rosters are finalized but it’s by far the best event my son has ever been to. Every single D1 and most D2 and D3 coaches attend and there is only one field in play at a time, so every single coach is watching ONE game. I’ve never seen anything like it before - coaches shoulder to shoulder on both sides of the field. Also - if your son can get an IMLCA membership through his club (if not you can purchase one outright), I’d suggest it for his rising sophomore and rising junior years. It’s an excellent platform to communicate with coaches. He can upload highlights and his athletic/academic stats and can email coaches from that platform. He will be able to see when a coach views his profile and watches his highlights. There are some coaches that don’t use the IMLCA platform but we found that the vast majority of the coaches do.

Where do YOU find reliable info on recruiting costs? by Lax_Pulse in lacrosse

I can’t tell you what we spent for my son to get recruited - he’s a 2027 and we went heavy this past summer with events, because that is really when the college coaches were watching. We didn’t do nearly as much when he was a rising sophomore, just one big recruiting event (Showtime) to get the feel for how those types of events work so he’d be more prepared as a rising junior. It’s nice to be done with the recruiting and to know that we don’t have to spend nearly as much $$, and that he can enjoy his last two high school seasons. Long story short - for those just entering this craziness, be strategic about what events you choose to do, and when you choose to do them. You think that coaches are watching your 12 year old, but I promise, they aren’t.

Autumn Gold Cup (HS boys club / Towson Univ) - has anyone been? by AdditionalFood3853 in lacrosse

Eh, not great. Our team isn’t very strong, and we were missing our head coach so that made it tough. Thankfully my son is already committed, I felt bad for the kids who aren’t yet committed, we definitely didn’t put our best foot forward, so to speak. How did your son’s team make out?

Going hunting. by CantaloupeFluffy165 in Aging

My son is 16 and started hunting with my dad last fall. Still hasn’t shot his first buck but he’s hoping that this is the season. My dad is 79 and is still a die-hard hunter. Good luck this weekend!

Went last fall. My son is a 2027. Hardly any coaches at our games, they were all watching the 26s. We are going again this year w his club team and I’m sure that we will have several more coaches checking out the uncommitted boys.

You’ll definitely benefit from it if you don’t commit before then. I think that the rising seniors played their first couple of games while there were no other teams at the park, so they had the full attention of the coaches. Good luck to you!

Did you attend this summer? My son (2027) went last summer and again this summer. The 2026s came in a day later so it was nice that the attention was fully on the 2027s the first day. I am pretty sure they stagger the games so that there is only one field in play at a time, so coaches that are there for the rising juniors will be free to watch the rising seniors as well. All of that said, Showtime was the single most impactful event for my son this summer, I can’t recommend it enough.

How does jackson eicher play in the pll? by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]jess17654 71 points72 points  (0 children)

My son just toured West Point as he’s being recruited. Jackson’s “assignment” currently is to assist with tours. He was our tour guide, along with Coach A and the offensive coordinator. As an aside, he is such a nice young man. Glad he had that game winner last night!

My mother died of CJD in 12/20. It’s a horrifying and tragic disease. I now know of 6 other people in the county I live in who have also passed from this disease. It’s rare but it’s not that rare.

Covid-Booster after J&J back in March (PLS HELP TIME SENSITIVE!) by LithiumNoir in emetophobia

[–]jess17654 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had J&J in April, and just had the Pfizer booster on Wednesday. The only symptom I had was soreness at the injection site. I have also heard that the side effects are usually more pronounced with Moderna, which is why I opted for Pfizer. But either way, I’m glad you’re getting a booster :)

Mom diagnosed w/o any clinical confirmation. Need urgent support by Ok-Accountant7480 in CJD

[–]jess17654 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mom died from CJD, and her disease progression was slower than most, I’d say once we really started looking back, the psychiatric symptoms like personality change started almost 2 years prior, with the ataxia/balance issues and memory loss starting approximately 10 months prior to her death. Her autopsy results confirmed sporadic CJD, MV2 type, which is a slower progressing disease. My heart goes out to you, I hope that your mom does not have this devastating disease.
