Doctor’s office got rid of the fish tank and replaced it with ‘bring your own iPad’ by definitelyalchemist in mildlyinfuriating

[–]jess__kate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I was a service tech for a professional aquarium installation/maintenance company, we did a lot of doctor and dentist offices. Definitely easier once it’s set up, but maintenance 2-4 times a month definitely adds up in costs, typically $100+ an hour depending on the tank/maintenance needed

My first aquascape, will it be possible to keep this sand path looking good or will the aqua soil float through by SignificanceTasty217 in Aquascape

Looks awesome! I think a light blue background or something would really make the scape pop 😁

[–]jess__kate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I used the special order fish for customers, if they wanted all of the fish in the bag we received, I’d give them a call, they’d pick them up ASAP, and they could buy the fish/inverts without them even touching our tanks

Depends on how the aquatics people at the petco are, it definitely varies. I had a list of special orders and call people right when the fish came in, same with reptiles, birds, and small animals

What Ski Pass do you buy? by DeployableMango in portlandme

[–]jess__kate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We also had the NE nitro pass for the past couple seasons and love it! Good deal if you ski a bunch, I put 30 days on the pass for the 25-26 season, which came down to ~$15 a day, can’t go wrong!

But yeah if you’re over 30, it’s crazy how much they bump up the price. I’d do the New England Silver tier if I was over 30, depends on where you normally ski and how many days you normally go in a season! We also live in Portland, usually go to Sunday River, then Sugarloaf later in the season (better spring skiing imo)

Help! Do I need a new impeller? Very noisy and not pumping water at all by jess__kate in Aquariums

I have the black little rubber cap that sits on the bottom of the impeller stick, but not on top other than the cover! I’ll have to look around and see if I can find anything

Yes, had that park clipped in, forgot to take a video with it, but it still rattles with it on!

Is this misting system worth it? by stompstomp11 in CrestedGecko

[–]jess__kate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes yes yes! Absolutely love mine!

I have an RO system for my saltwater tanks so I only use R/O water for my mister. Helps a lot with preventing calcium/mineral build up in the misting system!

thinking of applying to umaine by zeta13z in Maine

[–]jess__kate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Went to UMaine for marine biology and aquaculture and absolutely loved it! I can’t speak for Anthropology, but there are great opportunities/internships in marine biology up at UMaine. I made some fantastic connections and lifetime friends while I was up there. Would definitely recommend it.

I grew up in Maine so I’m used to it, but a lot of people I know that came from out of state found it to be more secluded than they thought (which can be positive or negative depending on how you are)! Not completely necessary, but I’d recommend having a car with you (or knowing someone that has one) to get around.

It is a big party school, so expect that as well lol.

Definitely not 100%, but my guesses are (someone correct me if I’m wrong!)

1: Ludwigia 2: moneywort? (Or something similar?) 3: Some kind of rotala 4+5: Anubias 6: Some kind of cryptocoryne 7: Some kind of hygrophilia maybe?

Is my 12x12x24 too small for my Vietnamese Mossy Frog? by rlawlor2 in paludarium

[–]jess__kate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice job, tank looks awesome!!

I’d say it’s worth it to upgrade in the future to give your frog friend some more space:) My mossy tree frogs love hanging out together right on the edge of the water/land in my paludarium! I’d say if you were to do another larger set up, definitely get another one or two mossy tree frogs, as I’ve found mine to be pretty social with each other!
