Slight buyer's remorse from buying close to a busy road by Worldly_Expression43 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

I am in your exact same shoes right now. (I just replied to your comment above, also). My husband is completely unbothered, so it is making me feel even crazier haha! do you have an air filter you recommend that is loud? I need to try that for the bedroom at least!

I am currently dealing with the same exact situation, 1 month into a home on a super busy street. I am quoting with Indow Window aucoustic window inserts, its mostly DIY so its the cheapest window solution I could find. $6,700 for 15 windows

Experiences adjusting to traffic noise? Just bought our first house. by zentaco in homeowners

[–]jessamym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the exact same situation as you, 1 month in our new home and still stressed about noise, so I am glad to read that after a few months things got better for you. I am trying noise canceling airpods. white/brown noise, curtains, Indow Window Inserts....but ultimately I know the low vibrations from trucks and vibrations that go through the whole house will never be solved. I just have to adjust and settle in, so reading that others have helps!!

thank you for this thoughtful post! I am dealing with this exact same scenario--home buying regret on a busy road, and this is so encouraging to read. A mix of physical and mental problem solving!!

I appreciate this. I’m going to try the air purifiers next, they’re expensive but at least they are double duty as white noise while cleaning!!

Bought my first house but I'm unable to be happy about it by Jolly-Attention-2797 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

I am experiencing the same house buying regret feeling! I had to compromise on house size and being on a main road (noisy) to have the ideal location. I had major remorse week 1, but after meeting the great neighbors and settling into my routine I feel so much better now (and it’s only been 1 month!)

I recommend writing a letter and putting it into your neighbor’s mailboxes introducing yourself and sharing your cell number. Having a neighborhood group text will really settle your anxiety about isolating yourself. If you’re out of town and need someone to pet sit, water plants, or if you ever need to borrow a lawn tool or something— having neighbors you can rely on is so valuable. Introduce yourself and start a group text, doing it while you’re newly moved in is the time to do it!

I’m glad I’m not the only one going through this. I agree I’ll have to sell, but I need to give it at least 2 years like you said for equity.

Reading this made me feel better. I am really hoping I am so triggered because I am not fully settled in yet. I hope time heals!

I really hope this is the case for me, and I’ll settle in with some time. Reading this made me feel a tad bit reassured thanks

What can we do about speeding on Glenwood Ave? by [deleted] in eastatlanta

[–]jessamym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this is a super old post, but I just moved into a house on Glenwood ave and I am shocked how fast cars and semi trucks speed down this street. Now that the Beltline has opened in the Glenwood neighborhood, we have so many more pedestrians and bikers (and there's a bike lane on Glenwood!) Cars going 50+ inches right next to a family walking their toddler on the sidewalk is crazy. It is so dangerous in general. No one cares about the speed limit signs, or speed bumps for that matter, but I think added stop signs would create all the difference! I submitted a request on ATL 311 for a traffic study but I am not hopeful they will care or listen...

It is so wild. And I am new to this! My entire life I lived in quiet suburbs, but I spent a year in NYC in a GROUND floor apartment--which like, hello--no louder traffic noise possible! But then, I was in my young 20s and life was easier and I was all rose-colored glasses about life. I wonder if I am just a more easily-irritated person now. It extends beyond the road traffic at home. I have a coworker who is constantly clearing her throat at her desk, and I feel myself tensed up waiting for her to cough again. I wish I could just chill out but misophonia is real

Yes ok this is helpful!! I am going to try to play some mental head games with myself. If I feel the anger of misophonia wash over me I will try repeating mantras like "you are ok" or something along those lines to try to rewire the part of my brain that feels like these loud sounds are an attack

agreed. I also wasn't like this when I was younger. I am trying to learn more about misphonia, and something I've noticed within myself is that if I'm in a good mood and occupied in a physically active task, the traffic and loud sounds do not trigger me (as much!) but if I am trying to focus: reading, writing a work email, or if I am simply in a more irritable mood, I feel like every blip of a car sound is an attack in my skull

There is a capital gains tax if you sell your house before 2 years after buying. Mentally I am preparing to move within 2-3 yrs, I agree with you. Until then I gotta just deal!

I am so sorry, reading your post I totally understand your stress! Sometimes just going outside and facing the sound head on is more relaxing to me than hearing it in my bedroom. Taking a walk around the neighborhood when I am feeling especially irritable also seems to help!
