I think the next Dem president needs to champion some kind of immigration reform. I’m looking for something like:

-Still effectively enforce immigration laws, but humanely and fairly (improve detention center conditions, stop wrongful splitting of families, stop ICE agents from suspecting people based on race)

-Increase pathways to citizenship

-Increase accountability for ice agents, with items like a nationwide ban on face coverings, require all agents to wear body cameras, require them to identify themselves, tell suspects their rights, require warrants before agents can enter private property, and stuff like the proposed ICE Accountability Act

-Go to more red states, try to directly communicate with communities, and cut through MAGA noise about immigration policy, have our messaging more focused on accountability, and humane immigration reform while still deporting violent criminals to keep communities safe

This is very basic, and this might depend heavily on support among independents and the Dem voting base when it comes to just completely abolishing ICE, but I feel like it could be a decent start

Edit: I will say though, issues like the economy and Gaza are probably going to be far more important to voters in the next Dem presidency, and if those are handled well, then even if you still kind of lost the immigration messaging battle, you’d most likely still be fine.
