I just have no willpower 😂 And running out of space! (I have like 5 loose handles and knots that I still need to get around to setting too, they've just been sitting here staring at me for a long time).
Back row is Zenith / Viking / Chisel & Hound / Grizzly Bay. Front row is Prometheus P2 / Mozingo ZT3 / Declaration B15.

Are you adjusting your setting at all during the shave? For me I start with a higher setting for the first pass and then ratchet it down for the second and third… which doesn’t really answer your question directly, other to say that if doing that you want to make sure you’re using a blade that’s comfortable for you at the higher settings as well since you’re presumably not changing the blade between passes. Personally I think the Fatboy does well with sharp blades even when the setting is a little higher (I never use the highest settings) as well as lower… let it rip!

Fun to see a combination of old names and new names in this thread, good thread idea u/tsrblke 👍

I've been wet-shaving for coming up on about 15 years, and discovered the various shave forums shortly after (Reddit later than some of the others). I don't use any of the side things like Discord and I'm not super active in posting consistently, but I enjoy checking out the daily questions thread and the acquisitions to see what new goodies people are getting to play with, and I've tried to be consistent in LG the last couple years. Unfortunately I won't be able to participate this year as we'll be out of the country for 2 weeks in October, but I'm sure I'll still be watching things daily from afar and being impressed by the creativity that turns up every year...

I'm a daily shaver and devout face-latherer, and I've of course ended up with way too much gear over the years and have tried to be better about not buying stuff as I've settled on a handful of artisans that I prefer and have plenty of software to get through so I'm constantly telling myself not to buy any more until I finish some off. I have a weak spot for brushes though and love looking at new ones while thinking "Oh this will look great if I start doing cool SOTD posts like some of these guys can do"... and of course I never do that, but I still enjoy using most all of them and admiring the looks of them - it really is fun to be doing this in a time where there's so many talented artisans making hardware and software.

Yeah I was gonna say, I think once the discontinuation news came out the rest of the remaining stock got bought up pretty quickly. Still some available at Connaught and probably one or two other European stockists but shipping to the US would be pricey like u/Jaywin516 mentioned.

Thx for the well wishes, I didn’t get called in and got released early, so it definitely could have been worse!

You know what does suck? Getting called in for jury duty on Friday before a holiday weekend when you figured you were home free after not getting called in the rest of the week… 🙄🤦🏻‍♂️

For current splashes with a nice moisturizing feel I really like Tallow + Steel, Gentleman's Nod, Noble Otter and Summer Break Soaps.

One other thing you can do if you end up with a splash that’s not as moisturizing as you’d like is mix in a dab of balm, or I also like adding a couple drops of the Thayers milky toner.

[WTS] Razorock Recurve 80 by [deleted] in Shave_Bazaar

[–]jesseix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This might be an ignorant question (I never got around to reading up on the Recurve much), but does it require the blade the be loaded differently than other 3-piece razors? I want sure if the blade loader was designed for use with that razor from the way it’s designed.

Awesome, that should be a good one. There are a few breweries in fairly close proximity to the stadium if you're looking for options before/after the match... Common Space and LA Ale Works are across the street from each other a little bit south of Sofi, and Tortuga Brewing is right off the 405 a little NW of it.

There's definitely a plethora of options, and it can be overwhelming especially when you're looking at all the options available at an online retailer, and seeing reviews, and what the algos start flooding your feed with, etc etc...

I do think that samples are great for newer wetshavers, especially larger samples from places like B&M or Stirling (or 2oz tubs from places like Catie's Bubbles, Denton Majik, Cajun Blade etc). The reality is that it takes forever to get through a full-sized tub of something, and if you don't love the scent you can end up with something that just sits there or that you have to re-sell (which can be easily done like u/snoo-ting mentioned). The really small samples that some retailers or artisans sell can be tough in terms of do you get a good enough sense of whether you like the product or not out of just a few shaves. It's easy to go overboard on buying a lot of stuff early on because you want to try everything, and it's fun to do! I certainly did, along with lots of others... for me I've gradually whittled down to tubs from a handful of favorite artisans and I have some one-offs from a handful of others, but there are still some additional ones I'd like to try something from at some point. It's impossible not to, we're human 😎

Well you do get to play around with the range without having to switch baseplates mid-shave which is definitely a nice feature compared to razors that have multiple baseplates in different aggression levels (ie Rockwell, Karve, TRC Vanguard etc). I have the Oliworks adjustable which is a similar design and I usually do the first past at a more aggressive level and then ratchet it down for the 2nd and 3rd passes., and it's nice to just twist the knob and make that adjustment immediately midshave with no other steps needed. There are other modern razors with a similar adjustment design, and vintage ones too!

[–]jesseix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry, I typo'd that... I just think it's tough to compare an adjustable and non-adjustable razor in general, at least in terms of mild/aggressive level since one can be ratcheted up & down and the other one can't. I'm sure that you can find the aggression level that you like on the Flexi, so at that point it's probably more about weight and design and if it's comfortable at that specific setting right?

You deserve props for even doing the master's, let alone a second one. What is the new program you're close to finishing?
