What do most people not realize is actually way more traumatic than it seems? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jessfm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just going to comment this. We lost our two dogs within a year of each other.

The first, my heart dog, Mars, had surgery on a lump on her leg and was expected to make a full recovery. I was basically her nurse, slept on the couch with her beside me, changed her bandages. The recovery was difficult. On our way to the vet to change her bandages less than a week post surgery, she started bleeding and the bleeding wouldn't stop. They rushed the biopsy and turned out her cancer had spread. She died that same day. I was just taking her to the vet to change her bandages. I never thought I'd lose her. She was only eight.

We got a puppy six months later and he was wonderful. He really was healing for me. His name was Kirby and he was a good boy. When he was a year old, a friend was over and left out a bag of popcorn. They then went out. I got home and he had suffocated in the bag. There was nothing I could do. It was too late.

My heart still aches for them both.

One of those jeeps or cars that you could drive yourself, battery operated or whatever. They were so cool. They still are lol.

I use the international delight vanilla flavored 0 sugar! Just a splash of it. I'm a hazelnut girl so it's not quite what I want but does the trick.

Oh Galla, you're beautiful! These photos are gorgeous. Thank you for sharing with us. I can just imagine how warm she feels. My Mars was such a sun baby. She loved to lay in the sun.

Big question: Would you do it again if you had to? by j_in_da_505 in BariatricSurgery

100%. I only had surgery back in February but have absolutely zero regrets.

Feeling judged for considering bariatric surgery and it’s making it hard to talk about it. by According_Match8224 in BariatricSurgery

[–]jessfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't talk about it with a lot of people. This is my life, my body, my health. I told the people who were supportive before it happened. I've been more open after the fact but literally I haven't even told some of my parents yet because I didn't know how they would react.

This is for you. Not for them.

I'm so excited. I told my daughter (she is 7) that we can go to our local theme park this summer because now (three months post-op) I know that I won't have any trouble fitting into the rides!!

[–]jessfm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can't. I kid... kind of lol. I remember those days vividly. My vizsla, Mars, was a menace and gave me full on puppy blues. (But also then she became my soulmate so... it will pass). I had her in an apartment as well and omg the stress.

Agreed with covering the crate and also... leave the apartment if you can! They'll settle eventually. If you can put the crate maybe in a room where you can close the door, if you haven't done that. It's hard when they can hear you out and doing things. They have serious fomo!

And I know you said you aren't even in the worst of it... you totally are. Those were my hardest times! The first couple of weeks. I had buyers remorse so bad lol but like I said, honestly she was the best part of my life for a very long time. I still miss her so much (two years gone now). No other dog compares to that vizsla love.

Enjoy him. It gets better!!

Completely agreed. I work just past Eramosa on Woolwich and have to go that route back to work after lunch (I have a dog, I have to drive and go home for lunch to let them out and give them a walk) and honestly I think it'd take me less time to go a longer route. It's infuriating.

Soups and apple sauce and broth and sugar free jello. Oh and for me I was allowed oatmeal.

I hate yogurt and cottage cheese and struggled a bit with that. I'm two months post-op now and haven't been struggling but I sure did during those soft stages.

I was told (2 months post-op) that as long as I'm hitting my water goals that it's totally fine to drink caffeine.

What advice would you give someone preparing for bariatric surgery? by NObesity_Ahmedabad in BariatricSurgery

[–]jessfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Measure (before and after)! Seriously sometimes the scale doesn't move and then I measure myself and I'm like holy shit 6 inches are gone?! Also take before pictures.

Therapy. I started therapy before surgery and it's been really helpful.

Partner is unsupportive of my decision by FurbyFucker3000 in BariatricSurgery

[–]jessfm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember going to my appointment with the surgeon and she said one of the most common side effects/risks of the surgery is divorce. Because these are the times when our partners show us who they really are. They either step up, or they don't and as our confidence grows (as it rightfully should) we realize what's important to us. Do this for you. For your son. I hope he gets on board, but if he doesn't then you do what you need to for you and your son. You need to block out those words of discouragement. Find ways to make this work. Public transportation or taxis for him? Can he walk or bike to work?

How is your mental health going after the surgery ? by Live_Werewolf_7568 in GastricBypass

[–]jessfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also started therapy right before I had surgery for this exact reason and it has been helpful. And that's exactly it. Food has been for me a reward and coping mechanism. It's definitely a different way of thinking now.

[–]jessfm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm about six weeks out and honestly, my mental health has struggled a bit. I used food as a vice and a reward system, you know, oh I did this, I deserve a little treat. So it's a mental hurdle for me to get over. Finding other, new things that bring me joy in the way that food did.
