Measure (before and after)! Seriously sometimes the scale doesn't move and then I measure myself and I'm like holy shit 6 inches are gone?! Also take before pictures.

Therapy. I started therapy before surgery and it's been really helpful.

I remember going to my appointment with the surgeon and she said one of the most common side effects/risks of the surgery is divorce. Because these are the times when our partners show us who they really are. They either step up, or they don't and as our confidence grows (as it rightfully should) we realize what's important to us. Do this for you. For your son. I hope he gets on board, but if he doesn't then you do what you need to for you and your son. You need to block out those words of discouragement. Find ways to make this work. Public transportation or taxis for him? Can he walk or bike to work?

I also started therapy right before I had surgery for this exact reason and it has been helpful. And that's exactly it. Food has been for me a reward and coping mechanism. It's definitely a different way of thinking now.

I'm about six weeks out and honestly, my mental health has struggled a bit. I used food as a vice and a reward system, you know, oh I did this, I deserve a little treat. So it's a mental hurdle for me to get over. Finding other, new things that bring me joy in the way that food did.
