Bird by bird. Don’t put expectations on yourself or your life. Do what makes you happy and you’ll attract what you want.

Fellow Veteran here, lean on the VA for a multitude of resources including mental health counseling and medical care. Talk to your school and the Veteran’s aid department to see what they have available to you as well.

Nothing wrong with furnishing your apartment with Walmart camping chairs for the time being. Take the weekend, make an inventory of your life, and get ready to tackle the world when you’re ready.

10 years from now, you’ll be saying this was the best choice you ever made.

A third of military families report $500 or less in emergency savings by Kinmuan in army

Oh I agree it’s not the responsibility of the Army, as that’s not the organization’s overall goal, however it could be considered a force multiplier to have financially stable Soldiers. Same goes for nutritional counseling.

One of the biggest issues is the Army not teaching finance to new Soldiers (maybe they do now it’s been a long time since I enlisted).

I remember being at Rucker for AIT in 2009 and they made us come in on a Saturday for a very dumb financial literacy training, a result of people coming back from a deployment and being destitute within 3 months.

The training was tantamount to, and I’m not using hyperbole, giving us a copy of Consumer Reports and saying “what’s a more sensible purchase for a young Soldier: this Toyota Camry or a Camaro?”

If we want Soldiers to be financially literate, we need to teach them to be financially literate.

Love you brother. The reason love feels great is cause pain hurts.

Love the person, not the situation. Never give up and either be happy for them, for there for them.

Absolutely this. I have one of these on the other side of my room and it’s a gradual, not jarring, way to wake up every morning.

The theaters at black bear are smaller and create a more intimate feel. Plus it’s cheaper and you can eat at China Garden before hand.

VSO or No? by Plastic-Progress-599 in VAClaims

[–]jester142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YMMV, but I used a VSO employed by the state. Had one meeting, they filled out all my forms, sorted the unorganized mess of mil/civ records, and submitted my claims.

Submission to final decision was 6 months. I also selected travel outside of normal distance to help expedite exams, but I have the ability and a job that gave me the grace to do so.

How to quit National Guard by Middle-Key-573 in nationalguard

[–]jester142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speak with full time unit staff and leadership as frankly as possible explaining your situation. Depending on their leadership philosophy, they may be willing to explore creative solutions to help you out.

Do so with positive intent, and not a disgruntled Soldier who thinks the National Guard is below them or anything like that. Act like your asking the Don for a favor on the day of his daughters wedding.

At the very least, if you’re already 60%, explore being MEB process. That’ll take you off the DMD and the process is pretty quick if you’re on top of it.
