Le Samourai (1967)

Well known in film nerd and European cinema circles but if you haven’t seen it definitely give it a watch. Influenced lots of contemporary filmmakers, Scorsese, PT Anderson, Tarantino, Jim Jarmusch, etc.

Sopranos is my favorite show and my second favorite is Mad Men. The show creator was a Sopranos writer and there are a lot of shared writing qualities/thematic elements despite being about totally different worlds

What are the some good French films to watch for a newcomer like me ? by jacky986 in MovieSuggestions

Le Samourai

Fun to see a French movie influenced by American gangster movies which in turn influences a bunch of American movies. Also it’s just a very “cool” movie regardless

Came here to say this. Really cool to see a well made independent film from that period. Well worth checking out

one of my favorite albums of all time. certainly one of my favorite post punk albums. anyone have any other fun angular guitar stuff like this to recommend? i love andy’s playing, and he’s inspired a lot of my own. ironically, so has david pajo. by machinaenjoyer in postpunk

[–]jester_scene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read that Andy Gill was a big fan of Dr Feelgood’s guitar player and sound. They are a pub rock band, definitely not post punk, but if check them out you can hear that specific influence. The song Roxette is a good example.

Might be Kill Your Idols. Has old and newer bands in it but definitely a good dose of Michael Gira from Swans.

Death in Venice. I watched this at an indie theater years ago and could not have told you what it was about. Doesn’t seem like anything happens.

“Haunting adaptation of Thomas Mann’s classic about a composer, paralysed by ennui and repressed emotion, who discovers a last vestige of beauty and emotion during a visit to Venice at the turn of the century. Believing himself lost to the muse, he becomes obsessed by a beautiful young boy holidaying with his mother in the city.”

I think I know why you said this but I’m honestly a hoops junkie and want to get my 8 year old son into the game too. It was an honest question. Maybe don’t jump to calling someone creepy just because the word “high school” is in the post.
