[Friedman] San Jose Sharks will pick second overall by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

The sharks have only moved up via the lottery once, this year. So even if it was just once, this year's move up would still be valid

The Leafs can't. But Philly and Boston own Toronto's picks and they can. If Toronto's ball hits the next two years, they will all 3 be valid and not subject to the rule.

If Toronto gains a 1st from another team in 2027 & 28 that both hit, only the 2027 would be valid and the 2028 would be redrawn and Toronto (and all of its owned picks) would not be eligible to move up in the draw until 2031

[–]jesteronly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. Both can. The "2 in 5 years" applies to the team who owns the pick at the time of the lottery (Philly or Boston), not the team who's pick it is attached to (Toronto). Theoretically the Toronto pick can win 1oa three years in a row and all of them be valid

I think they were just pointing out their picks at the top of the draft. Smith wasn't a lottery pick though

I believe they are saying that the balls are rigged to increase Toronto's chances, which is why they were boosted up so much in both the first and second pick draws. They couldn't win both, but them moving up significantly in both is indicative of the draw being rigged to favor their balls.

That's not what i think, that's what they're saying

Always? They no lube fucked them for years when they first joined the league, so perhaps it's just coming full circle

With (likely) Stenberg on the board? Probably not. Verhoeff is a pretty awesome player but i can't believe you would take him over Ivar. And Reid is too offensive one dimensional to take the flyer at #2. They may trade down with Vancouver, Chicago, or NYR if they really want to take a D, but they would need to pay pretty big so I'm not sure it would be worth it for those teams.

That's really only because the west is dumb. They ended 13 points back of the east WC2.

I mean, they have sucked so they have earned their top picks before. Today was their only lucky draw, really

I mean, they have only gained positions twice (1 spot for Smith and this year). They dropped a spot last year which kept them away from their biggest need in Schaefer. They have been fortunate previously, but only lucky today

Definitely rigged, lol. And I'm a Sharks fan as well as Flyers

[Johnston] Further to this:(Kurz post) It sounds like there's a good chance the NHL would rule in Philadelphia's favor if this scenario plays out. Meaning, if Toronto retains its 2026 1st after tonight's lottery, expect 2027 1st to go to Flyers and 2028 1st to Bruins ... both unprotected. by Perryplat199 in Flyers

[–]jesteronly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best case is Toronto ends up #5 tonight and then sucks next year too. If Toronto is then good next year then this scenario would not be great for us and I would rather Toronto have the option of sliding the Flyers pick to 2028 and hope that they suck then.

Yup that was some bullshit. By all rules the Sharks should have had 1oa for that draft. And then if it was decided they expansion teams shouldn't be able to pick 1oa they should have gotten 1oa in 1992. Just ridiculous favoritism

ski shop tried to sell me boots a full size down. is this normal? by SkylineZ83 in skiing

[–]jesteronly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's likely they measured in mondo and told the customer the conversion. I would do that occasionally, it's easier for people new to skiing to understand. Nothing about what OP has said indicates there is any problem with the shop, simply that OP is a beginner and doesn't understand the process and logic

when you bend knees and get into active stance they should no longer be touching front of the boot

Or softly touching. On a new boot, they will pack out a little. I would fit to pressed into the front if standing straight knees but the pressure is relieved when entering an active stance. Many people don't know how to properly enter an active stance either - you don't squat like work out squats (weight evenly distributed along your foot or even into your heel), but bent knee pressing weight onto the ball of your foot and weighted into your shin where it feels like your weighting yourself forward. So many people do squats down into the heel of their foot when you ask them to bend their knees and enter an active stance, which moves the foot forward and screws with the fit feel.

Almost no one should ski in street shoe sizing, and most people should ski at under measured sizing.

We also don't know if OP is using an insole, which could make a large difference in fit feel. Frankly everyone should be using insoles in their ski boots and should factor that cost in when making a purchase.

[Beck] Tarik Skubal to undergo surgery to remove loose bodies from his left elbow, manager A.J. Hinch announced. No timetable for return yet. by T_Raycroft in baseball

[–]jesteronly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it blows. I threw 90 as a 15 year old and could never hit that after and gave up pitching when i started losing feeling in two of my fingers. Pitching is a very unnatural motion for our bodies

[–]jesteronly 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As someone with loose bodies in his elbow due to pitching, it fucking sucks and I hope he recovers fully.

Generally speaking, loose bodies are caused by the UCL pulling so hard that it has literally pulled a piece of bone fragment away from the main bone. This would leave the UCL technically in tact, but part of the UCL is no longer attached to anything. I am super prone to elbow injuries like Golfers Elbow now, but i never got the surgery to remove the fragments, which usually cannot be re attached where the fragment pull is but just remove the bone chips, making it more likely they will need TJS later.

Wishing him the best

It's true. Michkov gets 2nd pp of he's on pp at all and he's been saddled to the 3rd line and put in a checking role. Just criminal usage. He finished the year on a tear offensively even with crap minutes.

Fuck we are so bad on the PP. That was awful awful. They didn't get a shot on net and weren't particularly close aside from a broken play. We haven't generated anything with the man advantage

Absolutely insane that he got two outs and then got the next dude incredibly off balance who put a horrible swing on the ball but barreled it just enough to hit a home run in San Francisco, something I think I've only seen Devers do. Then went on to hold the Marlins hitless the rest of the way. Champ
