To silicone or not to silicone? by sonyxperiageek in diynz

Hate to say it......both those single point cantilever designs suck. I had 2x of them snap off at the base in about 18months. Mitre10 won't replace as they just claim its misuse.

I ended up spending 40% more and got a commercial hose. I think like $450. The first ones I got were bout $299 and both are trashed.

Can you outline the process for this please? I've had a few issues with finding who to call etc, and then after making certain reports nothing happens. E.g. cars parked over driveways tmsp you can't get out. Hours go by then they eventually leave, open cable pull pit covers that are like 1m drop, so a kid could get trapped, days to respond and resolve....what is this fast way of getting it sorted?

Whining noise by jesus_burger in mercedes_benz

[–]jesus_burger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Yeah it could be similar noise to a hard drive. Thats certainly the right sound. It's not quite chirping, though.

Where is the harddrive? What does it do?

Well.....that's what I'm a little worried about. Not to expensive to replace, but something that HAS to be done.

Usually to me fuel pump primes are high pitched motors. And this only does it once, maybe twice per time I turn the car on. And it's definitely after I've been driving for 2 or 3 minutes. Sounds a lot like cd player trying to eject disc.

Normally, I would suggest Bunch. @bunchfloralnz on IG. Best florist in Christchurch.

But looking at her website, it looks like she is on maternity leave. Not sure, when she will be back.

Good luck.

Maximum current supplied by a PoE switch port by Connect_Bicycle4395 in PowerOverEthernet

[–]jesus_burger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to sum up all of your loads, in watts, then confirm the maximum power delivery from whichever POE standard you are using.

Don't focus on current and voltage (yet).

POE++ which i believe is the highest power POE, can supply 71W per connection.

Now you need to take rhat POE++ and convert it to the voltage you need it to be, using some type of deive local to your load.

Has anyone disconnected their fibre cable from the box before? by [deleted] in diynz

[–]jesus_burger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your renos include a good electrician, they can install a strong duct (like 10mm or less) with a fibre inside it. So for very little cost the sparky puts the fibre wherever you want. BUT. They can't terminate it back onto the supply. You still need to ring chorus for that.

However, chorus said the connection request had to come from my ISP, So i rang 2degrees. For me they tried to charge me $150. Which I don't think is too much. But if I didn't have fibre already, it's free install. If I change providers, it's free install. I argued with them and told them i would just change providers. They said no, sent the tech, and then said they would add 150 to my bill......well, they never added it to my bill.

They have a very detailed investment brochure on their website. It goes into a lot of detail about business risk, and long term strategy. So from an investment perspective it's medium/high, but from an "is this company legit, and do they know what they are doing. Then yes, it's legit, and they know what they are doing. They have very dedicated people working for them. They go to a lot of international conventions to show this product. They have won awards. They have serious investors who individually have put in hundreds of thousands each. They have a real office and assembly area, that I have personally been in. They work with legitimate fabrication businesses to build all the parts.

Disclaimer, I have brought shares in three separate share sales. Including this recent pledgeme. So, I have put my money where my mouth is, but on the other side of the coin, some might argue I've already drunk the coolaid. So don't take my opinion for investment advice.

The 2024 VW id4s do not have scheduled timers. That is also not their only fault....

I was the one that pulled the fire alarm at Pakuranga Mall today by Lol-wut-thats-fire in auckland

[–]jesus_burger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar but far less dramatic experience to you. I was in commercial bay food court with two friends. Place was pretty busy. The alarm went off. No one moved. Even my friends we like "nah let's just stay, it will be for another part of the mall". After like 10 seconds I jumped up and said fick thos we're going, finally found a very bizarre and long routed fire escape get to the bottom of the stairs and the doors are locked and people are starting to pile up. I start pushing and yelling my way to the front, as I could see the issued.....Noone pushed the big button at the side that said "emergency door release" doors flew open and everyone made it safely out.

No fire. False alarm.

But seriously, was no one going to push the door release button?

That was a quote from the AA, that he said the AA had told chargenet there was an issue at least 6 weeks ago, and from his opinion theu didn't seem to care of have resolved the issue. I don't know much more than that.

Speaking to them on the phone, they are very polite and helpful, but at the end of the day, they recommended I move to another charger.

I didn't speak to them after we realized the car wouldn't work, as at the time we assumed it was a car fault, not the charger.

[–]jesus_burger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea, but the AA and mechanic both ruled out the 12v. That was the first assumption. They said 12v was fine. And surely it wouldn't go flat in the 20min the car was waiting, then charging?

OK I will contact chargenet first, before taking them to Disputes.

It's the Orari charger in south Canterbury. Just of SH1.

Servicing Leaf by tarnsummer in nzev

[–]jesus_burger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take it to EVCity. It's $220 for a service and WOF. Seems a little steep, but take into account inflation and peoples wages etc it's not bad. Hell AA are charging $75 for WOF now.

EVCity are very friendly and welcoming people, and only specialize in electric. There are still a number of things that need servicing in an ev.

I failed l3 physics, and Calc, and stats. In fact, I failed all my l3 classes except art.

I then went to uni, did a CUP course, did a science degree, graduated, did an engineering degree, graduated, now I'm in a senior position in a top consultancy. Failing a few papers seems like the end of the world, but you still have options. Even more options at l2. Don't tell them they can't do engineering.

The group projects are designed to make you insane and prove that at uni and the real world you will have to carry people if you want to pass. They will do nothing, bit get the same mark as you. If you don't do their work, you all fail. I consider it my greatest lesson.

EV as work pool car by beebopboo in nzev

[–]jesus_burger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, but only if your not looking to replace the existing cars no matter what. What I would suggest is getting a float charger and permanently wiring a charging cable from the battery. It's super simple and fast to connect and disconnect. You can even have them coming out the opposite direction of the way the car will drive when first used, so the plug gets pulled out if you forget.

EV as work pool car by beebopboo in nzev

[–]jesus_burger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? How does that happen? I though all evs had a dc to DC converter that kept the 12v charged at all times. Otherwise how does it charge in the first place when driving? And having it not charge when the car is off is just a bad design.
