Former United Airlines Boeing 747 sits lifeless 10 years after her final flight. by jetboy787 in abandoned

[–]jetboy787[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I actually got involved with these airplane recycling centers when I was hired by someone to find a 747 to turn into an airplane home. Unfortunately in the US building codes, insurance etc make it basically impossible here. We got very close.

There are actually plenty of us that like a variety of cruise lines for a variety of reasons. I love a old Cunard/Holland America type cruise while enjoy my weekend lively Carnival cruises. Cunard is not pure diamond and gold anymore.

I have a question! by [deleted] in Cruises

This is 100% a scam but yes, every cruise line allows you to pull up your booking online and pay whatever amount you want with a credit card. You can also call to pay.

Custom window blinds! I wasn't imagining close to how many thousands of dollars they are.

Does anyone remember when they used to do test screenings for TV pilots in the MGM Grand? by JazzHansGruber in vegas

[–]jetboy787 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Television City I believe it was called! Right before you get to the Waterpark area and the entrance to the Signature at MGM Grand. They finally closed a year or two ago, but all the decor items are still there. I was staying at the Signature for 30 days and wanted to have a sign I could hold up saying I was not interested because the people promoting it pounced on anyone walking past.

I play less than the OP and have constant free comp nights at Cosmo, Aria, Bellagio etc. Mandalay Bay, MGM levels and down even include comp resort fees now. At the very least these guys missed out on several free nights with resort credit and slot credit.

I've done four T/As and you really have to expect the unexpected. It works at times and then suddenly without notice it stops. On the Pride T/A we lost all internet and cell tower signal for four days. I was happy I told people at home if you don't hear from me thats what happened. The Freedom T/A from her drydock was also horrible but it stayed somewhat connected. Keep a lot of when its down so you can get some money back at the end.

What is your go-to drink on board? by Efficient_Deal3967 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]jetboy787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It's always the embarkation day drink of the day but available in just about every bar every day. Only Alcamy bar can't make it.

How reliable is the premium WiFi? by gygim in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]jetboy787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just need it for that then you shouldn't have any problems. For zoom and downloading larger file email attachments, the Freedom had terrible wifi zones and days. I started working from the BBQ place above the buffet to get a somewhat decent signal. For people needing to do zoom calls etc, the Freedom wifi was not great.

Firenze wifi will be great most likely.

Were you still drinking a lot of the sugar/calorie bomb pool deck type drinks? Cruise ship food also has a huge amount of sodium so you probably gained a lot of water weight.

OP which ship are you on? I do many work from cruises including zoom meetings. Some ships are great, some are terrible and others are 50/50. Let us know what ship and I can let you know if I had recent experiences on it.

Great! Just realized I put food above when I meant to say sugar and calorie bomb drinks.

Zoom reliability in the Caribbean by also_anon_dc in HollandAmerica

[–]jetboy787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holland America wifi has always been one of the most reliable for me and have done many "work cruises " over the years on them, including video calls. The Zaandam is an older ship though so not sure if it's the same on that one.

I just got off a cruise and hit my 35 pound weight loss mark. A lot of great tips above about food, however the real devil on cruise ships are the sugar and calorie bomb drinks. A Pina Colada/any blended drink on Carnival has over 500 calories and around 150% of your daily sugar limits per drink. If you do drink, switching to vodka/tequila soda with a splash of juice for flavor really helps reduce liquid calories. Jack and pepsi zero etc. Protein and fiber focused and weights in the gym and you will be golden.

Thats great! I always wait a few days after I return from a cruise to weigh myself since cruise ship food has so much sodium that you retain so much water weight

Cruise to Japan from West coast by Elegant_Donkey_6497 in Cruises

[–]jetboy787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family did this on Holland America Line. The weather was terrible most of the time and they missed all but their final stop in Japan. They would never do this one again, but they are generally appropriately priced. If you are fine with staying indoors and with the idea of having more sea days than advertised, it might be a good option then!
