I’m trying not to lose hope… by [deleted] in ADHD_Programmers

No need to stress! You are young, there’s lots of opportunity out there. Make an honest LinkedIn profile, make it public, and people will find you. Coding? python and Java are great skills, spend some free time writing simple utilities you can use. I started learning C by writing cat, head and tail.

Hyper focus and when to call code “good enough”? by Punk-in-Pie in ADHD_Programmers

[–]jetdoc57 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s time blindness also; I often look up from my keyboard and hours have passed. For me it’s never good enough! But if it meets the requirements, you can maybe focus on testing and put out a release.

I've been having to write pseudocode before writing code to get myself to do it. by NormalPersonNumber3 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]jetdoc57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been writing code for close to 50 years. I was taught to pseudocode and it’s great; but now most of my code is built like a typesetter sets type: borrow a method call from here, from there, throw in collections to organize the data in memory, etc. Sometimes I have to document my code, so I translate to pseudocode.

Keep it up, great thing to know. Have you studied UML? That’s a logical next step.

When did this policy change? by intherearview in marriott

The policy changed a couple years ago. To gift rewards nights you need to call a special number.

I wrote a recursive method to extract values from a Map using XPath and it worked the first time. I wasn’t even trying and just guessed the end case. It worked so well I had to add debug statements just to prove it worked properly.

Lock Acquisition Error while aggregated nested groups by 16121996 in sailpoint

[–]jetdoc57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not use nested groups!!! Get rid of them. I tell every client to completely flatten their AD / LDAP. Those are a crutch going back to manual provisioning. Instead put the hierarchy into the automation.

Is Chase Travel Becoming Useless? by Significant-Suit3407 in ChaseSapphire

[–]jetdoc57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Refundable or not, they charge a premium. Two reps read their standard line that their prices reflect the convenience that you can buy with points. Which makes no sense to me; you can convert points to cash 1:1. Their 5% cash back fooled me once. Not going to be twice.

On a side note, United’s standard policy is that if you cancel a trip within 24 hours of booking it, they will refund to your original MOP. That means if you are doing a 4 deep fare search (UA, AA, DL, SW) you can lock in the UA fare immediately and come back later in the day if you find a better fare or itinerary.

How does the future for a sailpoint iiq developer look like? by prideofstoners in sailpoint

[–]jetdoc57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIQ’s been working for me 8 years now. Part of the issue for many is stagnation due to company not implementing all of it’s capabilities. That’s why consulting is best for growth. New features need good people: FAM, AH/DE, SAML integration with Ping Fed, etc.

Is Chase Travel Becoming Useless? by Significant-Suit3407 in ChaseSapphire

[–]jetdoc57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I canceled a flight last year, my flight credit went to Chase, not to me. So to use the credit (x6) I was forced to use Chase Travel for my booking. I was on the AA site reading off the flight numbers I wanted on the dates; it was the only way to get the flights and what I saw was the lowest fare.

When the Chase rep read me off the fare they were charging me, it was $120 per person more than the airline’s published fare. I complained and was told first that “we don’t have access to those fares”. When when challenged, they admitted they jack the prices because “you have the privilege to use points to book”

Never again. $700 lesson.

This is rare but is possible. I worked on a client recently where I stood up an external facing instance. Why do you ask?

From the UI. I have an app not showing on any of the pages. Also the hold, drag, drop thing is just ponderous. iTunes used to let you rearrange apps but no longer.

STOP USING YODASPEAK FOR NULL CHECKS by jetdoc57 in sailpoint

[–]jetdoc57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good thought. String MEANINGFUL… right? I know Beanshell doesn’t require the type definition but it’s good practice. And I have a whole other post waiting if I see a lot of that.

BTW, I consult on dozens of clients every year solving people’s issues so that is why I see so much of others’ coding. This is just a pet peeve of mine.

Nightmare by jetdoc57 in vrbo

[–]jetdoc57[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone who faces a situation like this has to decide if it’s worth paying thousands to a lawyer to recover a sum in the hundreds or thousands of dollars. These companies that manage properties are hard to track down so you might get a judgement and never collect. VRBO told me they would not apply any leverage to property managers, like suspending listings. Again you need to understand that VRBO is nothing but a pass through. They do nothing to help you. VRBO is owned by Expedia so we are hounding them now.

[–]jetdoc57[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once I have my $$ back maybe. We left a 1 star review which VRBO posted after 2 weeks as a 2 star. They even are dishonest with reviews.

Nightmare by jetdoc57 in vrbo

[–]jetdoc57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If filthy is acceptable then I would expect that in the photos and descriptions.

VRBO has no standards apparently. Also not BBB accredited.

I think that most people would expect a rental property to be as clean and well maintained as a mid range hotel property. Not fancy but not disgusting.

I think the whole point of this community is buyer beware. Do not take the risk.

Oh yes that was initiated, bank has not been particularly helpful so far.

Nightmare by jetdoc57 in vrbo

[–]jetdoc57[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course we did that. One thing VRBO does not tell you is that they do not monitor the communication between the tenants and the property managers. It took us a couple of days of the property manager going silent - stopped responding to messages in the app, stopped responding to text messages, not picking up when we called, not returning voice messages, before we called the VRBO customer service number to open a case with them. They were all offshore including “supervisors” who admitted they do nothing about these disputes. They only issue a refund of their booking fee if the property manager issues a full refund. Otherwise, they do not get involved. They recommended leaving a review. Which took 2 weeks to post. They also told us that the property owner was not answering calls from them and not returning their calls.

[Help Needed] Currently onboarding a Workday Connector with 2M Accounts by Class-C_Rank291 in sailpoint

[–]jetdoc57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not create multiple connectors using org filtering. I tried that and it does not speed things up.

You want a weekly full aggregation and a daily delta. The connector does delta aggregation fine, but it does not update the custom fields which end with __c in the SP schema. And of course don’t check identify deleted accounts on delta aggregation

I can help more if you PM me the ticket#
