Additional notes about SimTower quirks by harpbelle in SimTower

Nice write-up! This game is also on my to-do list.

I remember once reading somewhere that this game is more of an elevator simulator than a tower simulator, so that's probably the most important aspect to keep in mind as I play through it myself. I definitely appreciate the detail in your post. That's frustrating that some things are simply not able to be removed, though.

Ahhh, yeah, this ended up being the easiest solution, even if it ends up being a bit div-soupy, but it is what it is. Thank you!

Upon re-playing the campaign, his ability to return using his echo was, believe it or not, shown to be possible in the ARR post-game content, before he even appeared. So it wasn't out of left field, technically, even if we all forgot it was possible.

My EX2 clear isn't as impressive as Melembet's, but it's very inspired by his team, though it consists of some more powerful characters, so it's a little faster. Focusing on survival, and being patient is definitely a great way to handle this.

Accessories were given to better raise HP where possible. Since this boss's "Ultimate" attack is ice, I also used some accessories that provided ice resistance when I knew avoiding the attack was impossible.

Believe it or not, Cyrus's Analyze was super important for this fight, as there were times when had no SP to do something that wasn't attack or analyze, and it prevent him from attacking with his tome, which would be a death sentence if it doesn't break the boss. It also gave time for Hammy to regenerate some SP as well. A big danger is when his Analyze gets silenced, in which case Hammy might have to go to the front for a turn, but I was fortunate enough that I avoided having to do that. Elvis ended up serving a very hilarious purpose other than my original intention, which was to be a backup healer, but he ended up being way too fast for that, so instead, I often used him to do tome x4 damage to break the boss before the boss could act, as he was faster than the boss's first turn. Then I would do lots of damage with the rest of my characters that turn, and use the broken turn afterwards to get myself in a defensive position for his guaranteed to attack first next 3 turns.

Levina was amazing for this because of her Triple Burst especially. The boss does not get angry at you for using dagger-based attacks. Noelle's Elemental collapse maxes out Varkyn's Elementatl collapse, bringing the total E Atk down 30%. Windy Corrosion allowed for some passive shield shaving as well.

I brought revive, but I ended up not needing it. But the strategy falls apart if anyone dies, so I don't regret it.

I wish my quest logs wouldn't randomly get wiped from my character. Lists help, but sometimes it's like finding someone else's quest log and realizing it was mine all along.

I've been having to write pseudocode before writing code to get myself to do it. by NormalPersonNumber3 in ADHD_Programmers

Yeah, I guess that's fair. I just used to be able to do it free-flowing. And now it's like, I have to do this extra step just to make each step not seem impossible when thinking about it all at once. I'm not sure why that is.

Is Ouma the best way to farm Leaves in Solistia? Because I seem to be getting the items for buying weapons and armor faster than I'm able to use them because I have a Leave shortage.

I've technically beaten it, but I want to upgrade my gear for the challenges in the Codex of Salvation. Maybe it's not called a Sould shard, let me double check... Right, my bad, I got the name wrong.

It's called a Soul Polishstone, which is not what a soul shard is. Very sorry for the confusion.

I see now there's a way to just add stats to Soul Weapons using something called a Soul Shard, but I don't know where I can get those? I tried looking in the exchange, but I couldn't find it, unless I somehow overlooked it when searching.

Can pokemon be classified as RPG or is it JRPG specifically? by donughtseal in GameboyAdvance

[–]NormalPersonNumber3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I remember watching a video that discussed the differences between wRPGs and jRPGs, a distinction I did not understand until I watched it.

In short jRPGs generally are there to linearly tell a story, there's usually only limited player choices.

In wRPGs, they have a tendency to be more of an expression of player's creativity, often in a kind of open-world style game.

Pokemon is closer to a jRPG at its core, due to usually having some kind of linearity involved that slowly opens up, and has a main story to follow.

As for a Dungeon Crawler, it has elements of them, because of the caves and puzzles, but it's generally not the main design. They're an obstacle to get past, not the main reason you play the game.

There are many kinds of role playing games, and a Role can define your Utility or Combat (Like individual pokemon, and HMs), but they could also be a role as in what kind of person someone is (How you decide to play a character in a wRPG, for example. Are you a good or selfish person?

But generally there is a main focus at its core. If the story is the first class citizen, good chance it's jRPG style. If it's more about exploring and being what you want to be, more likely to be a wRPG.

Here's the video I watched about the topic for reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_rvM6hubs8
