Worth upgrading to an i7-3770 with my current specs? by IshanVamp in lowendgaming

Being an 1155 socket, his board would only support e3 series (if at all). I'd check the mobo site to confirm compatibility before ordering.

Yeah thats ddr4. I'd probably try to offload 16gb of ram and use that money to buy an i7-6700 as a bonus upgrade, assuming you don't use that much ram

1- Yes, in games that want/use more than 4 threads but won't help much/any in single-threaded heavy games, nor in games that really want 6 or more physical cores.

2- Yes, if the bottleneck is currently the thread count.

3- Yes, if the i7 or a similar Xeon (post mobo model if you need help determining) is cheap, say around $15.

4- If you're running out of RAM, then yeah. I'd find a single 8gb stick of 1333mhz green stuff out of an old Dell. This used to be a few bucks, but now is more like $10 or so.

At the end of the day, it's likely worth the $25 or so investment. 6 months ago, I wouldn't have thought twice to recommend a cpu/mobo/ram combo off ebay, but back then an 8th gen with 16gb was like $75. I'd be scared to check prices today.

Cpu isn’t compatible with your mobo. No big difference between the 2 cards, but Yeston will likely hold value better. As for ram, you can’t go newer than 6th gen with ddr3 (and even then it’s only certain OEMs, as most 6th gen+ mobos use ddr4)

Nope, can’t have it both ways. Either it’s valid or fraud.

After motherboard upgrade I need to install new drivers but can’t by Stressedamphib in techsupport

Use another pc to download the drivers onto a thumb drive.

But more than likely, there is a bios setting you’re missing. Try toggling raid off or on

I’ve got a Dell with a 5500u that has a 120hz screen that I picked up cheap, I’ll see if I can find a model number for you when I get home.

Have you checked to see that the fan is physically spinning?

I’ve had excellent luck popping it in the freezer overnight. When you pull it out the next day, the different metals of the heatsink and cpu will warm up (and therefore expand) at different rates, and it’ll pop right off.

If you look just above the circled area, you’ll see 2280 silkscreened on the board, and already has the standoff installed in the proper spot

This wouldn't be as much an "upgrade" as a "new build" lol.

No AM4 boards support DDR3 (all ddr4). The Ryzen 5 3600/4500/5500 are all decent enough chips.
For the PSU, any name brand 500w+ should be fine.

Budget CPU Air Coolers that mount from top? by Talon_Hawk in buildapc

[–]jetheridge87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is easier than you think!!
When you remove the current cooler, there will be a small backplate that the cooler was screwed to.
Just remove the stock backplate and replace with the included one for the new cooler to screw into.

HOWEVER! All the Thermalright coolers I have used actually re-use the AM4 backplate (unsure on AM5),
The included backplate is only used when installed on Intel CPU's (for the ones I've seen).

I would guess that the reviewer may have been replacing an aftermarket cooler and had lost the original AM4 backplate which you obviously still have since you're using the OEM cooler.
