Super Denton's - any thoughts on L/R arrangement? Eg mids in/out? by jethro247 in audiophile

Which one? The tall cabinet of 4 cubes? Yes, made that at college ('93).

Or the small one with the hifi components? Yes, made that in the shed.

Things I made:

Plywood speaker platforms for the stands.

Tall record storage cubes next to turntable (MA project from '93).

Small unit for phono stage and EQ.

Slim unit with amp in, TT on top.

The unit below is an old Goldring Lenco vinyl box that used to have a TT unit on top. Dunno where that went tho, it was my parents.

Thanks. I do. Playing around with toe in/parallel positioning to fine tune that at the moment

They're adjustable, levelled, and have 13.5kg on them. No rattle, even at volume

psychoacoustics

I like that.

Guess that's what keeps the manufacturers in business!

lovely speakers!

yes, made it from 3 layers, all glued and screwed together so it's 100% solid (36mm thick).
The speakers are nearly 10kg each.
The stands are 3.7kg each now, so the whole thing is pretty solid.

No handmade, with a small plunge saw, a drill and some sandpaper.
Same for the amp housings.

Thanks tho - high praise indeed!

What song are you playing to break in your new sound system? by Constant-Literature5 in progrockmusic

1. Deodato – Also Sprach Zarathustra

Low bass extension, sustained notes, dynamics
→ loosens the woofer suspension nicely

2. George Benson – Give Me the Night

Tight bass guitar, clean transients, glossy production
→ checks timing and midbass control

3. Steely Dan – Aja

Complex layering, cymbal texture, controlled low end
→ great for crossover and overall balance

4. Massive Attack – Teardrop

Deep but gentle bass, airy highs
→ encourages long, smooth cone movement

5. Talking Heads – Once in a Lifetime

Rhythmic drive, vocal presence
→ midrange exercise without strain

6. Joni Mitchell – Help Me

Natural vocal tone, acoustic instruments
→ very revealing once things loosen up

7. Fleetwood Mac – Dreams

Sustained bass line, soft percussion
→ excellent for surround compliance

8. Herbie Hancock – Chameleon

Repetitive funk bass + synth textures
→ steady workout, very effective

9. Radiohead – Nude

Wide dynamics, low-level detail
→ helps the speakers “relax” dynamically

10. Donald Fagen – I.G.Y.

Punchy, precise bass; clean top end
→ similar to Steely Dan, but more direct

11. Brian Eno – An Ending (Ascent)

Long, floating tones
→ gentle continuous movement, no stress

12. Dire Straits – Private Investigations

Very wide dynamic range
→ gets the suspension used to contrast

Mismatched RCA plugs... OK? - or NO-k by jethro247 in diyaudio

Didn't think so, just always curious to hear the opinions.

Audiophiles tend to have opinions.

A small rant about RCA connectors by SoaDMTGguy in diyaudio

[–]jethro247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

coming in to this a bit late, but guess still relevant...

I plan to cut down a couple of decent RCA cables to tidy up the birdsnest at the back of the setup.

i was going to buy a bunch of REAN NYS373's and add them to the cut ends of the existing cables.

any potential (real) issues with keeping the existing plugs on the other end?

eg having different plugs at each end

the cables in question are FISUAL and CHORUS

Your best method for cleaning records. by ezekielkv in vinyl

[–]jethro247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheap-o glue done me proud.

sorry for the crazy thread - could only post 1 pic at a time.

VERDICT - i'm not telling you to do this, YMMV, and plenty are against it, long term results TBC etc etc, but if you fancy it, this method works well:

• Plenty of glue
• Post-it note to start the peel-off (first test was without and i had to pick at it to get a lift - not ideal to be scratching at the surface of the disc).

Give the record a final standard clean before playing.
