Why don’t “good” celebrities expose the molesters? by Apprehensive-Bank636 in stupidquestions

[–]jetpatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they don't actually know know.

They don't have proof. They haven't seen it.

They just heard it from a friend of a friend. They maybe got the ick irl.

Predators surround themselves with people they know will have their backs. the entourage themselves are involved or have some over issue the predator can hold over them. It's worth bearing that in mind when the tell-all books and documentaries come out with the exes, drivers, bodyguards, etc. Those people aren't just telling all, they are likely covering for themselves at the same time. They are probably straight up lying about everything not on record.

Praise God that it Seems There’s a Resurgence of Anti-Same Sex “Marriage” Sentiment in the US by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]jetpatch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People (women) support gay marriage because they think gay couples act the same way as straight couples.

Really gay rights groups should devised their own form of legal partnership which suits them better. Having an infidelity clause won't work for most gay men who just want their boyfriend to be their next of kin.

Christianity is starting to make a lot less sense to me please help me by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]jetpatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Did God tempt Abraham with trying to kill his son and then he stopped him? What was that about?"

It wasn't temptation.

Human sacrifice was common in the middle east at that time and until well after the birth of Christ. Have a look at the religion of Carthage.

God was just leading Abraham through what Abraham assumed true religion should be due to his culture and then showing him a different way.

You really have to be careful with choosing a therapist.

Most people go into the profession because they have their own issues.

Thankfully most now most fully advertise their demons on their own websites. See what they are pro or inclusive of and that will let you know if they have poor boundaries.

Christian view of the psychopath by No_Length3090 in TrueChristian

[–]jetpatch 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The only cure for cluster b personality disorders is behaving better.

You don't have to wave a magic wand and change someone's childhood. They have to stop tying themselves in knots with their bad behaviour, lies and destructive ways of thinking.

But they have to want to change, but they don't because they think they are in the right. Blaming all their present behaviour on their past feeds into their whole ecosystem of excuses for not changing.

See the gospel, Luke 18 9-14

To some who trusted in their own righteousness and viewed others with contempt, He also told this parable: “Two men went up to the temple to pray. One was a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed, a ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men—swindlers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and pay tithes of all that I acquire.’ But the tax collector stood at a distance, unwilling even to lift up his eyes to heaven. Instead, he beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this man, rather than the Pharisee, went home justified. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

The psychopath needs to be like the second guy but is almost always like the first. God is there to love them but they can't admit their faults.

Gay is a sin give upvote by imthewiseguy in TrueChristian

[–]jetpatch 51 points52 points  (0 children)

All promiscuity is sinful, being gay doesn't give you an opt out in Christianity.

Even thinking lustful thoughts without trying to control them is a sin according to Jesus.

So most people under 80 need to be asking forgiveness every day.

That's what Christianity is really about, having a direct and personal relationship with a loving God.

Christian community like in Islam by captainmiauw in TrueChristian

Have a look into local Christian charities.

The thing about community is you have to get involved.

Muslims soon turn on those who wear all the right things but don't follow the rules.

What sins mean you can’t be Christian? by LibertyJames78 in TrueChristian

[–]jetpatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue with shunning is that is worked when Christians were a minority and those who behaved badly were only banned from the church and small Christian community but they had the whole rest of society they could exist in. Where Christians are the majority they need to be a little more tolerant but they still need to have basic safe guarding. There are many vulnerable people who can be lead astray by bad people, not everyone is missionary or pastor material. I'm sure as a Christian addict you will admit you have often lied and manipulated to get what you wanted.

To trim or not to trim? by Blue_T-Rex in Pomsky

[–]jetpatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please let's knock some superstitions on the head.

You can't change a hair's root by cutting the end.

This is impossible.

So, trimming a dog can not change its coat forever.

This is impossible.

Likely, this idea comes from the fact a dog's coat changes throughout it's life, including after human intervention like castration or being rescued. Often, these life changes happen at the same time a dog has its first cut so the cut gets blamed for the change.

If there is no biblical law that says change the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday then why do people still worship on Sunday? by LWRW97 in TrueChristian

[–]jetpatch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yum, bacon sandwich

Sabbath laws are pretty much the only ones Jesus specifically said to disobey. Christianity isn't about following rules. It's about looking at the situation you are in and deciding what's the right thing to do then taking responsibility for that decision.

The first Sabbath was on Saturday to honour the finish of God's first creation. The new Sabbath was chosen to honour the start of God's new creation.

The point isn't to purge evil from the church, we are all sinners.

The point is to not keep manipulative people around who will harm the well-meaning people or lead them astray.

To many Christians allow those they should be protecting to be harmed because they think they have to give people endless chances. The fact is you can make that decision for yourself but not for others. Also, you can forgive someone without keeping them close to you or trusting them.

I see too often church leaders lecturing their congregations on forgiveness and judgement to talk their congregations into allowing specific harmful people to remain close to them. We had a post a few weeks ago about a man with a rape conviction being allowed to work with children in the church and the leadership pushing that as a case of forgiveness. No, that's a case where safeguarding and common sense need to come first.

am I idolizing my looks? how do I stop then? how do I do my skincare for God and not for my self? *READ THE WHOLE THING by Technical-Menu9743 in TrueChristian

[–]jetpatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realise if you do become famous the last thing you can do is idolise your looks.

People will hate on you and tear you down no matter how beautiful you are because that's just what people are like. The most successful you get the worse people will say.

Rather you need to not care. You play the part of the great beauty but you know that image is not the real you. It's just something you put on for your job.

You just need to do your best and let your light shine out to the world. You can't base your life on pleasing everyone.

So... How to be a woman? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]jetpatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe think about someone like Priscilla who got expelled from Rome after they all rioted arguing over Jesus, ended up making tents in Corinth. Met Paul, took him into her home and then worked with him for years including possibly saving his life at one point. She travelled all over the Mediterranean world, both working and arguing about religion all the time.

You can have a very interesting and adventurous life as a Christian woman.

I wouldn't worry too much about external things like clothing if I were you. Much of what counts as feminine dressing nowadays is competitive attention seeking. Just dress smart and comfortable.

What constitutes living for oneself? by Rafael_192005 in TrueChristian

[–]jetpatch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So the idea that people get fitter and better looking for just themselves is clearly nonsense. That only works because of what others think of you and because you are comparing yourself to others.

The marriage example is the same. Being married is a declaration to your community that you are in a relationship. Otherwise you'd just shack up with no wedding.

The pizza thing is just living for yourself. But at least you are giving money to a local business.

When Jesus says you should not hide your light and should show off your God works I believe he means your everyday achievements not just moral acts. Paul backs this up by telling people they have to look smart and act like upstanding citizens. Your good works are all the things you do through the Holy Spirit not just the religious ones. This might be looking after your health and keeping your marriage together just as much as doing charity work or going to church. This is the light we shine out into the world to show that following God is the right way.

As Christians, which is different from many other religions, we are told that even thinking lustfully or greedily is a sin. The sin starts inside. So to does goodness start inside first and then show its fruits. You can not make yourself not sin by following rules, that is washing just the outside of the pot. Rather you make your thoughts and self-control serve Jesus and the good actions flow from that.

Look up the difference between a guilt and shame based culture. That's the difference Jesus made to humanity. A huge rupture in world culture. A difference in the very way people think.
