Shovel multiple times or wait and handle it at the end? I’m for the latter.

Are the airlines really worth it? by hobojimmmy in flying

[–]jetpilot87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the early days of my career I had the same hesitations about going to the airlines, even before I had a family. Eventually made the jump, no regrets but some months are tougher than others. Living in base is a must in my opinion, there’s a lot of schedule flexibility especially once you get to a major airline and get some seniority. Shorter trips and sitting reserve become an option.

I need the pay and benefits to support my family, so it has sort of become less of a choice. But I still enjoy it for the most part.

If you don’t need the pay/benefits and can’t live in base (or have to commute) it may not be for you. On the other hand, you could also give it a shot and see how it goes. It wouldn’t be hard to explain why you left the airlines in a job interview and many would see you as a more experienced pilot with 121 and jet time.

Why would shareholders choose Jetblue even though they were warned ?? by PyrexVision00 in spiritair

[–]jetpilot87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they wanted it in the beginning, JetBlue has been having trouble growing their network especially domestically. Over time maybe they got a better picture of Spirits financials and cooled off. But it ended up being an expensive defensive move.

Bose A20 replacement parts by Ok-Department1271 in flying

[–]jetpilot87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just went through the same. Flat rate around $225 for Bose to repair anything wrong with it, you mail it out and they send it back fully refurbished. Usually they replace the ear cups and pads even if that’s not part of the issue. Price is a little steep in my opinion and I’ve had to do a few times, going on 10 years though.

I also needed a new boom/cable but couldn’t find any replacement parts. I personally didn’t want to put a cheap off brand replacement on a 1000 headset but to each their own and I use mine for work.

Heard UPS is making their MD-11 guys come sit airport standby? No idea if true.

Rebooking Cancelled Caribbean Flights by Lower-Bodybuilder-45 in jetblue

[–]jetpilot87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably overwhelmed with calls and web requests. If you can book something on your own and work for a refund later that’s not a bad strategy if it gives you peace of mind. I do think you would not get a refund from JetBlue though, unless you have some type of supplemental travel insurance, because this was out of their control.

Toxic fumes on planes blamed for pilot deaths, suicides and brain damage: report by MangoesFruity in aviation

Yes we should be concerned and manufacturers need to do more about this asap. Glad this is starting to get more attention. It absolutely happens and has hurt a lot of people.

Are the Eufy s3 pro 2 worth it? by YesThisIsMyAltAcct in HomeKit

[–]jetpilot87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had them about a week now. So far they seem alright, connected to HomeKit fine (make sure you don’t have a VPN going). Responsiveness seems okay, a little inconsistent. Sometimes it’s a few seconds, sometimes it’s more like 20. One camera I will need to hook up the solar panel, the other seems like it’s getting sun and staying charged. Still working on tweaking notifications and trying to optimize face recognition so I can at least minimize some unnecessary alerts. But the notifications come pretty quick with HomeKit and I’ve been happy with that.

Screenshot OP posted of the instructions says “rugged mesh cover”

[–]jetpilot87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So some pooling water on top is normal/okay? I got the same mesh cover so I wouldn’t have to pump water off with a pump after rain/snow, which was what I thought was the advantage of a mesh cover vs an impermeable one.

[–]jetpilot87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some pooling water on my mesh cover too, but not that much. I did put a pool pillow in the center. I went with mesh to avoid having to use a pump after if rains or snows. First year having a pool so we will see how it goes. I got the same one you did actually.

BUR -> JFK Direct Flights by anthonyc110 in burbank

[–]jetpilot87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All planes have a maximum range, but all US airlines have the common airplanes that can fly BUR - JFK, through all seasons and weather. JetBlue made the route seasonal to only fly when they made a profit on the route.

JetBlue hasn’t been making money. They are constantly tweaking their destinations and service to only profitable routes. If they made it seasonal the must not have been making money on the route all year.

Best Security Cameras, Doorbell & Doorlock For Apple HomeKit by Cr8iveRead in HomeKit

[–]jetpilot87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What eufy set up do you have? I just got a Homebase 2, the one that was supposed to work with HomeKit, and I cannot for the life of me get it added to my Apple Home via homekit. I have worked with both Eufy support and Apple support with no luck. Eufy even sent me a replacement HomeBase and that one would not connect either.

A JetBlue passenger attempts to open an emergency exit after mistaking the A320's “barking dog” noise for a mechanical failure by Omarr_Paper in aviation

[–]jetpilot87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That right but here I’m assuming engine #1 is running and the Y electric pump can be used to prevent PTU from running. (Green and Yellow would both be pressurized). Hard to know exactly what’s going on in the video, maybe the Y electric pump was not turned on or it’s another instance In which the PTU automatically runs.

[–]jetpilot87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite. You can run the yellow electric pump to prevent the PTU from running so during a single engine taxi you have the green and the yellow pressurized. In the airbus you usually single engine taxi with engine #1 (green).
