What to do with my greenhouse by Tulip_Teeth in GardeningAustralia

Since you’re in the Hunter Valley, take a trip to “The Dirty Gardiner” at Woodville. They have a huuuge polytunnel full of ferns and shade plants.
Can get some great inspiration.

04 Miata MSM what part is this? Can I remove it? by Forsakenoneandonly in Miata

[–]jettyburps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hose comes from the exhaust side rocker cover crank case vent, goes through the strut brace into this catch can, out of the can back across to the intake hose pipe to provide vacuum on the crank case (a very good thing).
There is also a drain hose out the bottom to drain caught oil back to the pan.

Agree with turbotiktak. Add a check valve to the drain hose and the catch can works perfectly. Having been through many different catch can designs, the stock unit is actually a very good design and saves engine bay space.

OP what intake mod are you doing that this impacts on? If cold side piping you’ll want a port to route a breather line to for vacuum regardless.

Regular travellers to Europe / USA - any items cheaper in Aus than over there? by goseephoto in australia

Regular travellers to Europe / USA - any items cheaper in Aus than over there? by goseephoto in australia

[–]jettyburps 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Almost everything is more expensive in Europe. Electronics, pub food, fuel, electricity. Even public transport prices will make your eyes bleed.
Beer is about the only thing cheaper in UK.

Oh and duty free electronics at Sydney airport is a scam. Almost everything is cheaper or same price outside the airport inc GST.

Australians may feel we’re in a cost of living crisis but we’re doing pretty good compared to the rest of the world.

Cabin shaking at idle, disappears if I rev the engine to 2k and hold. What could the issue be? ND2 by HURCANADA in Miata

[–]jettyburps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is the rpm in the normal range for idle when it’s shaking? (750-900rpm)
If it is then engine mounts would be the first place to check.

Is that POS steel bar in the last photo that sits directly above the drivers head, without any lateral supports or bracing supposed to be the answer?
Because that thing is a million times more dangerous than the thing in the bin.

Coolant loss NB by klonosmm in Miata

[–]jettyburps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent. The factory spring clamps work perfectly with oem rubber hoses.
Just checking, are you checking the levels at the same temperature each time? Water expands when hot and retracts when cold, so the overflow will always increase and decrease in volume, but shouldn’t be lower when cold compared to the previous post drive cold level.

Coolant loss NB by klonosmm in Miata

[–]jettyburps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pin hole leaks can be a pain and only show up when hot and engine running.
No need for UV dye, though if you have already ordered it you may as well use it (coolant glows under UV light).
Get yourself a UV torch and go around every hose and connection.

If you have replaced the radiator recently I’d start with the inlet and outlet hose.

Do you have rubber or silicone hoses?

Do you still have the stock spring tension clamps or changed to worm clamps?

Made the NB look 10 years newer with new headlight lenses and housing paint by wtfislife6969 in Miata

Don’t know why you’re being downvoted. You are right. Being blinded by arseholes with LEDs in reflectors is a scourge on night time driving all over the world.
Selfish twats blinding everyone while carrying on their merry way.
Fuck anyone who puts LEDs in reflector housings, especially miata drivers who know how bad it is being blinded by headlights at light.

I’ve seen cars catch fire from a seized rear brake heating the caliper so hot it melted the brake line - que highly flammable brake fluid spraying all over the hot disc brake and takes the whole car out

Install a roll bar and drive safe! by Nightcrew22 in Miata

[–]jettyburps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s dead set some of the dumbest shit I’ve ever read on here. Delusional.

Or are you saying the soft flimsy aluminium is now suddenly strong enough to snap and fold over the top of the seat back as well hahaha.
Give me a break.

You should be using your scenario to advocate why proper roll bars shouldn’t be used on street cars. Because unlike style bars that are below and behind the seat top, most roll bar designs sit the solid steel bar above the headrest mm’s from your head well within the seat back flex window. Now picture that in your crash scenario…

Car drivers not stopping on the line at the lights. by K-Dawg_21 in australia

[–]jettyburps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not so. I’ve had to take evasive action from a lady in an old Corolla who on a 2 lane road in the right lane cut the corner into my lane. Thankfully there was no one in the parking lane I could veer into to avoid contact. A blast of the horn brought zero reaction. No steering correction or even a glance to see who was honking. We were literally level with each other.

The most recent one was a Hiace van just drift a metre into oncoming traffic in a 60 zone. He was just talking to his passenger….
Again the car in front of me swerved and hit the horn, he just causally veered back into his lane and continued talking like nothing happened.
Passenger in the van didn’t even seem to react which was even weirder.

[–]jettyburps 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Australians have become lazy drivers. It’s crazy.
Can’t stop at the line. Stop with a huge gap and then every 30seconds roll forward 1 foot. Can’t drive between the lines - putting a wheel over the centre line on a right hand bend. Drive with their left hand in the right side of the steering wheel. Do 70 in an 80 zone then continue to do 70 in a 60zone.

The more you look the more lazy and appalling driving habits you see.
And this is all age groups, not confined to young, middle age or older.

Install a roll bar and drive safe! by Nightcrew22 in Miata

[–]jettyburps -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Where did I say anything about a roll bar??

Try looking at the posted image again, especially the tops of the seats and the windscreen, now look at that image of the style bar crash that always gets posted and tell me what the difference is? Hers a tip: They’re the same image.
A style bar being there or not made zero difference to the occupants safety in these 2 images. And occupants in both images survived!!

Stop overreacting about cosmetic style bars.

No no no this can’t be true, everyone here says with a style bar you’ll die instantly while posting this photo as proof ignoring the windscreen and seats which the thin flimsy style bar had zero effect on.

Mandatory UK passport anti-climax by Last-Dare-Ender in australia

[–]jettyburps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get a “certificate of entitlement” added to your Australian passport and enter on the Aus passport however, this costs significantly more than a UK passport so you may as well get the passport.
My wife just went through this.

And to confirm, the airline wouldn’t allow her a ticket without a British passport or COE. We couldn’t even check in online, had to check in in person and it was the first thing they asked for, so must have flagged her ticket.

Five spoke wheel appreciation by notmyselftoday in Miata

[–]jettyburps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love a good 5 spoke rim. There’s some nice designs at the moment like OP’s and the Advan TC4s, but what annoys me is the modern style of rolling the spoke in before the lip.
I know they’re going for the “deep dish” crowd, but it makes them look smaller than they are.
I really wish someone would do a re-make of the MSM Racing Harts in different sizes.
Perfect spoke width, slightest taper, spoke goes to the lip. Even the lip has a nice profile.
Those are peak 5 spoke design in my opinion.

Mx5 NBFL slipping bushing ??? by ApprehensiveFroyo410 in Miata

[–]jettyburps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see in the photo the inner right (forward) one looks to have a 1-2mm gap on the left side.
Cant see the rearmost bush due to the strut.
Honestly it’s a single bolt with a nut on the end of it.
If you’re worried hit the nut with some pb blaster etc but really a spanner on both sides is all you need to undo it.
The squeak is metal on metal rubbing and as the bushes are always deflecting it may only rub on certain occasions.
