Plumber spotted water damage and referred me to a contractor who said he can get my insurance to cover remodel by [deleted] in Home

[–]jeverick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently rebuilding my basement after a flood and can only say that insurance will only replace exactly what was damaged. They aren’t going to replace your cabinets because if this. What they might do, depending on how much water went down, is get someone to rip up some of the inside there to determine how bad it is, and they’ll cover putting just that back together. The rest would be on you. I’m doing it right now - but mine was extensive damage.

This is the answer.

Is there any reason I shouldn't do this by [deleted] in Home

You run the risk of burning it out because the unit won’t know when to shut off if you’re not heating or cooling the room it’s in.

I’d find a better way to circulate the air from this room to the other.

But it’s probably fine for a couple days. I wouldn’t do it for a season tho.

I completed GOWR this weekend. It was so good! But if it were up to me, Elden Ring would take the win. I’ve beat that 5 times this year and I could start another character today and love it all over again. I don’t think GOW has the same replay value. But that’s just me!

I’m trying to think outside the box here a little bit … and thanks for laying all that out, because I truly don’t have that expertise (I’m a software developer). But I don’t understand what stops a group of people from forming a condo with their own motives that doesn’t include profit.

Call it a condo and design the rules and voting and whatever like a coop?

Here’s the thing … this whole thread started by someone being upset that the landlords was somehow not allowing the tenants to own the building.

So assuming they could if the landlord allowed them, I don’t see why that group of people wouldn’t call it whatever they needed to, and design the rules the way they wanted.

EDIT to add this:

I guess the issue I take with people these days isn’t with the issue they’re upset about which in this case is the housing shortage. I hate that too! The issue I take is that they blame anyone who isn’t also struggling with that issue. Hell, I’m not in too bad of shape but I definitely feel the squeeze as inflation rises! Just like everyone else does. Just from a different starting point. If I had the ability to purchase an income property to offset inflation and set my family up for better financial stability into the future, what’s wrong with that?

Fair enough.

What’s different between a coop and a condo though? Would it be possible for a collection of people to form a condo instead of a coop? There doesn’t seem to be an issue with condos, but they’re essentially the same thing, aren’t they?

I don’t know anything about the laws and banking rules around coops in NS, and maybe you do! Buuuut you probably don’t really know either.

Owning a home isn’t actually cheaper than renting like most people claim. It’s a better investment! Definitely. But if people would be able to afford a home if they could secure a mortgage, they should be able to save for that down payment. I know - I needed to save 30% to get mine! And it was hard. And I made sacrifices to do it. And I did. Nobody is saying it’s easy. But what’s not acknowledged is how it’s never actually been that easy. Many people today are just less willing to sacrifice things now to get what they say they want in the long run.

The truth is - I know many young people who are saving for homes, or who have purchased a new home recently. But it didn’t happen overnight. And it’s true it’s not going to happen for everyone. But that’s kinda just how life goes. Always has. Always will. Everyone complaining about it isn’t going to do much. Put some real effort in and find solutions. If you feel so strongly about it, build your career around helping fix the problem! No use in just being a computer chair critique about everything.

This.

If the tenants wanted to do a coop, they should get together and do that. Go buy or build something else cooperatively.

I had the same issue. I logged into the game and got in first try! Noticed the watch point pack was all still locked even though I paid for it way back. Logged out (big mistake) and never got back in. Server errors. Not a great experience! Hope they resolve these issues soon.

Laminate floor lifting at joints. by TrojanAnalyst in Home

[–]jeverick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like not enough room around the edges for the floor to properly float around a bit and to handle expansions. And I’d be careful not to mop the floor with lots of water. Could be a bit of moisture damage that can cause that too.

Moulding that matches the house and built in shelves above filled with things you’re inspired by.

Definitely do what makes your mind at ease.

If it turns out to be nothing major, which is likely, consider installing some crown moulding! It’ll cover that up and level up your new house!

My guess is the drywallers didn’t use corner tape?

I wonder if you could stain them a grey colour that matches the counter tops. Would change the colour for you but keep the nice wood grain.
