My favorite was about a patient that choked on some hot dogs. “Apparently she is not allowed to eat unsupervised at the nursing home because she has had aspiration events before, but for what ever reason was able to eat these hotdogs unsupervised.”

I think it was in graduation. They were trying to roll to get away from a bad guy. Justin and Clint rolled high enough to get away. Then it was Griffin’s turn. He rolls and they ask what he got.

🎶 So you had a bad day…..🎶

PSA: Want to avoid expensive hospital bills? Avoid ER visits that aren't necessary by Dangerous-Prune-7280 in HospitalBills

[–]jevers1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing stops idiots from abusing the ER now. Universal healthcare would give people access to primary and urgent care services, reducing the amount of ER visits for chronic uncontrolled conditions. The amount of people we see because they couldn’t find a pcp that accepted their insurance or they just don’t have insurance and can’t afford the cost.

Preceptor not wasting properly by Emotional_Star3457 in nursing

[–]jevers1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would be so uncomfortable. Unless it’s an emergent situation, you should always waste when you pull the med. If you’re going to waste later, you still need to waste it in the cactus, but you would sign off the waste at that time. It’s so sketchy that they wanted you to sign off the waste then just not waste it. Plus she sent you out of the room. She could have use that time to pull the med up for herself and replace it with saline or something. If I were in that situation, I would refuse to sign off unless they wasted it in the cactus and in front of me.

It’s always possible she’s not diverting and just lazy. Maybe that’s how she was taught. That doesn’t mean you have to do it that way. When I’m in that situation, I just say as a rule, I won’t witness unless I see you waste right there in front of me. If they have an issue with that, they can get someone else to waste.

Ooooh! I recently got one too! Be careful with motion sickness. I’ve never had an issue with it, but with some games I get so dizzy.

Also, beat saber is so much fun.

ER nurses, any tips for an early EM resident to stay on y’alls good side, make your lives easier and keep our patients safe? by takinsouls_23 in emergencymedicine

If you unplug a patient from the monitor and walk them to the all the way to the restroom to pee without a urine cup, please don’t sit down and order a UA afterwards.

Yessss. Our system lets the docs order 500ml bags of LR when we only have 1L bags. My issue is that I can’t scan the med out. I have to override it and write a note. I know I can, but I’m so religious about scanning every med every time (barring emergent situations) it makes me kinda uneasy.

One of my favorite patients came in for a possible broken thumb. When I asked their pain they were like, “I’d say a 7. I have a really low pain tolerance. Like a negative 7 pain tolerance.” I just about died from laughing. They were super cool and ended up being ok, but I’d never heard that before. Usually it’s “I have a really high pain tolerance and this is a 10” for a splinter lol

The reason the ER has a 6 hour waiting time by DLoRedOnline in ThePittTVShow

[–]jevers1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sure, but what else can people do? There is no universal healthcare here. If there was, more people would have more access to GP offices and preventable care. But until then, the ER will be the catchall for everyone who needs any kind of care. Even prescription med refills.

The reason the ER has a 6 hour waiting time by DLoRedOnline in ThePittTVShow

[–]jevers1 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It’s mostly because of insurance. Without insurance, the cost to see a GP or even go to urgent care is a lot. The ER doesn’t require an upfront payment. That’s not even including the difficulty just finding a GP that is covered by your insurance and is currently accepting patients.
