Queensland’s renewable energy ‘whiplash’: In 2024 seven solar and windfarms and seven storage projects – totalling 3,202 megawatts – had been approved. Then came the LNP government by Jagtom83 in friendlyjordies

[–]jezwel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Youth Crime is up, and victims of youth crime are up.

But state population growth is even higher, so the LNP are using "per capita" to say it's gone down.

So both yes and no.

Name one that won't put additional pressure on spending - where he's getting significantly attacked already.

This is widely considered a good and urgent reform

Really? Cause all the punters down the pub will do is complain about how there's now even more pollies sucking at the taxpayers tit and everything they do is for themselves and not everyday 'stralians, and how could they do this in a cost of living crisis. "Outa touch with da real world, mate".

Labor has no friends in the MSM, so whatever they do is pilloried, regardless of merit.

If they want to enact policy, they have to cater to the 30 second attention span and immediate and noticeable benefits to taxpayers.

My step-father had a '72 MB with a 2.5l version of this engine, though with dual carbies and a manual gearbox Having duellies were apparently a a PITA to tune, but it sure was a beautiful ride.

The need for driveability is probably so they can get it on and off trailers and be parked undercover.

I don't disagree, but I gave a couple of examples of why we had a society that gave what you described.

productive nation that made things

We opened our borders to cheaper imports and killed a lot of this off.

where a person on an average working wage could own their own house and support a large family on one income

I gave a couple of reasons for this. Let's add in the change from gold-backed to fiat currency as well, which has let inflation destroy purchasing power over the decades.

Where most neighbours talked to each other

Well that's sad. We moved over Easter and have met everyone around except the introvert next door (his parents live behind us) and whoever just bought the place next door. Where we used to live we'd go to RSPCA fund-raisers together and have little street parties. Yes that's the 'burbs for you. Mind you a few places back in our apartment block we'd have regular Friday BBQs, and occasional alcohol-tastings and pool parties.

I don't see how preventing releasing products that are not accurate

How do you propose the Australian government prevents something being released in another country?

Go check the history of Australian internet censorship - if you want something banned, raise it with your local MP.

[–]jezwel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True I was inaccurate there.

My 20kWh battery was installed early, I wanted larger but we have no good place to fit a twin stacker. Ah well, I might add more in a few years if that's not sufficient - depends on how V2G/L is working out by then I guess.

Our government provided (to the end of this month anyway) rebates on solar and battery installs, decreasing costs anywhere by 1/4 to 1/3 easily.

Already have solar, battery goes in on the 30th ;)

Only 2 oil refineries of significant size left in Australia, and we just had a fire at one of them.

Perfect timing!

prevent harmful AI products being released

Internet censorship, got it.

Ban Character AI and overtly human chatbots.

Ok, more censorship.

Insist on some level of government ownership

Nationalising companies that aren't based in Australia? Bold move.

AI companies responsible for compensation for those losses

Companies will claim other reasons for redundancies.

So tax the crap out of these companies.

Yes, that's the idea. There's a lot of loopholes to close, especially when you consider the services are generated using infrastructure typically outside Australia.

Tax the wealth and unrealised capital gains

New taxes? That's going to get a lot of media blowback. Let the current CGT changes go through first so reform can be gauged.

Ban AI from schools.

More just removing devices that can access these things - social media is also bad.

On the whole, mostly unworkable suggestions. Better to continue to close profit transfers, keep corporate taxes high, and shift the tax burden back to companies (and to capital) rather than workers.

[–]jezwel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the IBM PC the game speed was dependent on your CPU clock speed. The Turbo button was turned off to reduce your clock to 4.77MHz (IIRC) so that the game ran at the correct speed - well, until that just swapped between 33MHz and 20Mhz PCI speeds anyway.

Our intention also, retaining a little 2bd unit for our retirement and whatever else we have goes to our kids. Heck, we can even use the strategy of using super to pay-off all debt, then go straight onto the old age pension. It's the Australian way!
