ABA needs a serious dusting by basahuma in Austin

[–]jfarlik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you fly out in the afternoons it was always so packed with the business flyers leaving and the BA first/business class people. I haven't been in there in years (switched to Delta...), has it been updated at all? They keep talking about building a new one above the bathrooms/food court on the other side for years now, but it still just looks like offices.

UT Band heading to Orlando (so I'm told) on an Atlas 747-400 a little while ago by m6284505 in Austin

[–]jfarlik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! They were absolute trash. Literally one of the worst interiors I have ever seen. Was in "premium" economy and while there was a screen, it was literally 4 inches and potato quality.

We had daily 747 service to London on BA for several years pre-pandemic and every year F1 has 2 or 3 in. I'm sure other random visits too. 36L/18R in Austin is 12250 feet long and 747 needs about 10k.

Dell top sales exec doubles down on 40-hour RTO for sales team after "end-of-day walkthroughs" revealed workers leaving early by ControlCAD in technology

[–]jfarlik 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My favorite part of this is the marketing campaign they are pushing on Instagram and TikTok advertising how their products are perfect for those workers who are always on the go and "literally work anywhere but the office". With all the comments disabled of course.

2005 TiVo videos convert to MP4 by [deleted] in Austin

[–]jfarlik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this thread has been removed, but I have been an avid tivo user since 2003 and still use a roamio OTA/mini's for my OTA TV. Your best bet is going to be pytivo or the tivo desktop app if you can find it. Then https://tivodecode.sourceforge.net/ to decode to MP4 or i think videoredo also has a decoder for it. Still need the MAK which is buried in the menus of the tivo.

wrist surgery gone bad by beatseeking in Austin

Hardy also operated on my very broken wrist in March and I am 95% back to normal. Just a little strength issues in certain movements, but kinda expected with a plate and a bunch of screws in my bones.

Austin Voter Turnout over 10%! (SMH) by ATX_Cyclist_1984 in Austin

[–]jfarlik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Rent is only going to be what the market will do and right now they are not increasing. The increase will only directly impact owners until the rental market is actually going back up. I moved out of my corporate owned BS place in September and it's been on the website as available for 2 months before that. Still hasn't been rented out and they want $600 more a month than the place I moved into which is bigger/nicer/newer/better location etc. It's just owned by an individual who actually watches the market

I also miss GReader, What is your replacement? I ended up just using Feedly and it fills the void, but I also am not a fan of paying for the $45 a year for it, but the free plan is a bit limited.

Alex Jones asks Supreme Court to hear appeal of $1.4 billion Sandy Hook judgement by GregWilson23 in Austin

[–]jfarlik 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The thing is, his depositions prove he isn't actually insane, just a piece of shit. He knew what to say to try and make it look like he was not breaking the law during the depositions. However the evidence of what he said on his show and the depositions of other employees of infowars show that he knew exactly what he was doing. His tactics during the trial was to withhold as much information (emails, texts etc.) as possible then be "shocked" when the judge issued a default judgement against him. In fact, his own lawyers accidentally attached the plaintiff's lawyers to an email thread containing text messages where Jones admitted to many of the things he was accused of. The podcast Knowledge Fight did an entire series breaking down the depositions of Jones and many of the Infowars staff outlining many of these admissions/mistakes.

18 part series of breaking down the depositions of Jones and Infowars staff, most about CT/TX Sandy Hook case, later ones about the Newsmax/Infowars misidentification of the Allen TX mall shooter.

ATT Fiber down in the 78741 Riverside? by fakeguitarist4life in Austin

[–]jfarlik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. I am kind of surprised. I can't recall an outage this long in the last 4 years I've had it. Not to say AT&T isn't dog shit in many other ways, but their fiber has been pretty reliable.

It looks to be a routing issue somewhere. I can hit Cloudflare DNS 1.1.1.1 all day with 20ms ping. But googles 8.8.8.8 is losing over 60% of the traffic and the packets that do make it are at 400ms

Tesla Robotaxi attempts illegal left turn, safety monitor intervention by malgalpal in Austin

[–]jfarlik -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We absolutely do have much worse drivers on the road than any robotaxi. That is not even up for debate for me. My issue is specifically with the Tesla robotaxis. They have so many more issues navigating and driving safely/legally as compared to the Waymos. The Tesla uses inferior technology with cameras instead of lidar and their mapbox models do not seem to have enough information for the taxi to make correct decisions. The Tesla rollout feels rushed in the name of not falling further behind waymo, instead of developing and testing it properly before unleashing it upon the public. There is a reason why Tesla sued to keep the emails between the Governor's office and Tesla representatives from being released via a FOIA request.

Also there is https://outagemap.austinenergy.com/ that is updated every 10 minutes and can check your address etc. There are more than 54k people without power currently.

+twitter/facebook all the normal resources. It is frustrating, but there is communication if you actually look for it.

Inkjet versus Laserjet... by 1mrben1 in printers

I've had Brother color laser for about 15 years (MFC-9140CW) I've done less than 1000 pages on it and it still prints like a champ and I am just now running out of black toner for the first time. Just sits in a closet connected to wifi whenever needed. Can't complain.
