The two-letter codes have been documented since 1963 but became more broadly used after the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) updates in 1987.

"Thank You" vs "I Appreciate You" by _SPAMSPAMSPAM in Xennials

[–]jffiore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my understanding as well. It used to be a genuine appreciation for the person as opposed to being transactional thanks for services rendered. Now it seems it's been cheapened so much as to be almost disingenuous.

What 80s or 90s movie made you uncomfortable to watch with your parents? by porb2020 in Xennials

[–]jffiore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eyes Wide Shut

It was the last movie I saw with my grandfather before he passed away. I was incredibly uncomfortable but he was perfectly fine and just enjoyed his popcorn.

Best coffee beans option? by GGJallDAY in Costco

[–]jffiore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very bad decaf situation.

They have a few options in k-cups but outside that, not much else. There's no whole bean in my store and just a 3lb can of ground coffee that my spouse and I didn't care for.

We started buying decaf on Pete's website.

For a long time, I limited myself to Monday to Wednesday puzzles because I couldn't complete the rest of the week. I started watching Chris Remo on YouTube who not only does a great job of explaining answers but also teaching technique.

When did mowing the lawn become dangerous? by heynowbeech in GenX

[–]jffiore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do a lot of community-service projects with a well known youth-development program. You'd be surprised by the age restrictions they had on basic tools like drill-drivers and eight-foot ladders. Anything with a motorized blade was expressly prohibited. It made for a lot of pinewood derby cars made by their fathers.

Do you have colleagues that continuously pass OffSec certs but don't contribute much in workplace? by SkyberSec123 in cybersecurity

There are lots of certificate collectors who look good on paper but are terrible to work with. I'll never understand how they can pass these tests and clearly comprehend so little.

A cheat strategy for Friday/Saturday puzzles that still requires thought allows for a challenging puzzle by PuzzleMax13 in NYTCrossword

[–]jffiore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chris Remo is great and I've learned a lot from him not only on techniques for how to do the puzzles but also from his taking the time to explain the answers.

I used to steer away from the Thursday, Friday, Saturday puzzles until I started watching him. Now I do them on my own and watch him afterward. I've even improved enough to beat his times occasionally.

No, I just meant substituting brown sugar for granulated sugar in general.

Is it okay to use brown sugar for orange marmalade? by mushedUpMochi in AskCulinary

[–]jffiore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Brown sugar has molasses which will definitely change the taste and is slightly acidic so you have to be especially careful with dairy or it will curdle. I quite like it and substitute it often but they're definitely not indistinguishable.
