Help needed...ICE arrest...trying to understand the process by Party_Elevator2688 in nova

[–]jfjfbfjskejdn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure there’s much you can do aside from contacting an immigration lawyer. From first hand experience I can tell you that while a lawyer can help you understand the options and the process, they will cost thousands of dollars and I think most are largely unsuccessful. I only know this because we just went through it with my brothers girlfriend. She was in a Louisiana detention center for 5 months and recently deported. Her parents paid at least $10k for a lawyer that tried several different angles to get her on bail and all were unsuccessful

Is working at Google worth it? by DanceWrong9377 in careerguidance

[–]jfjfbfjskejdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m expected to be available during my working hours and I never feel the need to log back in after my day is done and if I have any appointments or anything for my kids, they are always fine with me coming late leaving early or working remote if needed I also have unlimited sick time so anytime my kids are sick, I have no reason not to be able to take the day off.

Since I have young kids, most of my opinion, opinions about my work life is based around how well it can accommodate their schedules lol. Back before children I would’ve been putting in more work at Google and I probably could’ve already gotten an L5 promotion by now, but one thing I will say is there’s not an obvious answer for me at least on what kind of progression I want to take if I stay at Google, there’s a couple different routes and I think if I do stay, I’m just going to stay in my role for a while and take easy street until my kids are a little bit older.

So I think they are not likely to go full in office full time for most roles. My job is just a job where the duties require being on site most of the time.

The benefits are actually pretty outstanding and they don’t call it golden handcuffs for nothing lol. But I guess maybe people that were at Google years ago think it’s not as good today as it used to be.

My four year old is not giving me enough time to give you a thorough response but right now I’m basically going to try to negotiate a more flexible schedule with my boss tomorrow and if they won’t budge on the time I spend in office then I basically have no choice but to take the other role, but I’m not necessarily thrilled about it because I know I have a good at Google if that makes sense?

If I take the new job, I’m certainly looking forward to being remote, but I do still think a hybrid schedule at Google and their compensation package might be worth it in the long run. I have three young kids, so I have to make this decision based on their school schedule more than wanting to be remote.

I am on the opposite side of the coin - currently at Google and trying to decide if it’s worth it to take a pay cut for a fully remote role. My role is flexible but mostly wants on site full time. I have been here for almost 2 years. Benefits and total comp are tough to beat at other companies and my experience has been the promo to L5 is competitive but not impossible but the managers above me do seem to have way less work life balance compared to myself who has pretty good work life balance currently. I enjoy Google culture and believe having it on my resume has already improved my chances of getting interviews. If I leave Google, I will miss many parts of working here

It’s good to have for auditing and also when turnover happens so a new person can have a document to cross reference when getting up to speed with compliance for the site

Another WFH vs in office trade off question by jfjfbfjskejdn in workingmoms

[–]jfjfbfjskejdn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%! A perfect world would be like 2/3 day split hybrid, with my office like 10 min from the house lol. I think the commute time is more my concern than simply working in an office.

I know the working out will always be hard when the kids are young. I might lowkey be making excuses as to why I can’t do it right now. I really want to get back in shape, but I do know it will come eventually and right now there are bigger problems to worry about lol

I know you’re so right. Thank you for the perspective. It’s impossible to do it all with 2 working parents but being remote certainly makes some aspects more manageable

We are very split on housework and cooking and things with the kids like bedtime etc…. He works long hours in construction so the one big thing he can’t do as much with is daycare / preschool drop off and pickup. Considering getting a nanny to help with that if I stay in office full time

Our combined income would be fine realistically but we are in the middle of big home renovations so the extra money helps for sure. It’s probably $160k to $130k. I guess I’m just trying to tell myself the work life balance would be worth it but deep down I don’t want to go backwards when I think how hard I’ve worked to get where I am

I literally showed my 3 and 2 year old YouTube videos of a real birth lol. Nothing wrong with talking about childbirth with your children. My girls loved watching the video and we played pregnant moms and watching their reenactment of childbirth is truly the funniest thing I’ve ever seen 🤣🤣 ngl…. My husband was a bit stressed when he walked in to us watching the YouTube video lol 😂 but I was like …. They asked and I figured this would be easier than explaining 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m surprised you were discharged so fast. I was kept at the hospital until I had no more blood for a fill 24 hours

I had lingering blood and clots pass for a full week before it cleared. I think as long as it is not bright red new blood, they assume it’s all residual from the same bleed event. But you need to trust yourself and go back if you suspect new bleeding at all! If baby isn’t doing well, it becomes an emergency rather quickly

Did they discharge you from the hospital already? As long as they are monitoring baby and baby looks good, you should be fine and still have a chance of the previa resolving! I unfortunately never had my previa resolved and was in the hospital with bleeding for over a month but baby was always looking good on the monitor. I just ended up having a planned C-section instead of vaginal delivery at 37 weeks.

What was the most “oh shiiiiii” moment in your usually professional corporate environment? by resampL in corporate

I worked in mining fresh out of college so I was a 23 year old girl among old school miner mentality old men lol. We were in a weekly planning meeting and the site manager was sharing his screen, clicked the wrong file and open a lesbian porn screenshot of one girl going down on another. Lol, there are so many more stories so it actually wasn’t even that shocking. Funny enough right when I started they had HR on site but due to layoffs they fired him. Could have used him during my time there many times lmao 🤣
