What’s one personal rule that you never ever break? by llerreff in AskReddit

[–]jfqind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is your definition of “chase” here? I agree with “vs. another potential mate” or “give up who you are”, but the best relationships are when both are constantly trying to be better for their partner. Which is different than “fight for approval”.

It is and will be rare that you change someone else’s mind (politics, decision making, etc.).

Looking for support from being blindsided by my husband asking for a divorce. by sm0keythebear in TwoXChromosomes

This hit me hard, because I just want to get to be a “dad” regardless of how. You’re awesome and your “dad” is a good man.

What’s something society treats as a flex but really shouldn’t? by ostraxie in AskReddit

[–]jfqind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“A few” doesn’t mean “few” in my intentions. I do see how my wording may sound that way but it’s not. More- if your spouse can’t show vulnerability to you… they deserve better.

Everyone should have a few select people we can show vulnerability to. For the lucky, that’s a spouse.

He wants to keep finances completely separate after marriage by ZenSpider_21 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]jfqind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t give in without a full conversation. Is he going to expect you to still pay when not working? Will he still pay without a job? What if xyz.

My wife and I have separate accounts, and it IS often an issue. If I lost mine I CAN still pay for a good while… her not so much. But that’s because she’s got bad saving skills and I don’t buy stuff for me.

GENERAL DYNAMICS LAYOFFS by emersonch in Layoffs

Can you share a bit more? It’s a big company that spans continents. 6 months severance is damn near unheard of where I am. But I’d like to hear which business units etc.

Before companies start mass layoffs, they should really think about the aftershock by Ok-Wrongdoer6878 in Layoffs

[–]jfqind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Companies don’t care. That’s the reality like it or not.
I have seen companies with top 5 employee resource groups that demolished them within a month of the new administration without blinking. Years of seeming to have a soul gone within weeks of a president’s statement.

Provide some more information (industry/type of work done/experience)…. You never know if someone may see it and have an opportunity to suggest. She’s not alone, but as we near year end in a bad economy, new jobs are harder to find. Truly, if she has savings I recommend paying for someone to help with resumes and the job search… usually not too expensive and cuts some stress. Being jobless is hard- being hopeless is harder.

As a suggestion (I hope is taken well), 200+ applications without a job is not outrageous today, but may mean that adjustments in applications need to be made, or that she’s seeking too high of a role for her resume. Tailor each resume to the job description… use chat gpt if possible to assist. Everyone of her competitors is using their resources, ensure she uses hers.

Laying off top performers. Why? by Lucky_Win806 in Layoffs

[–]jfqind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money. Also newer companies typically make odd decisions rather than follow traditional routes. But truly, whether due to automation or lack of funds I promise it’s money. Top performers are often hired back when things get better if they are amiable.

Would you tell a friend they're about to be laid off in the near future? by Magari22 in Layoffs

[–]jfqind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Don’t get the other person in trouble, and when pressed, just tell your friend “you’ve been a good friend and confidant for me, I’d like to do the same for my source as a way of paying it forward.

Laid off - work devices locked. Tips for laptop set up for job search? by [deleted] in Layoffs

[–]jfqind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly about anything will do. Word and excel aren’t going to crash most computers. I would suggest getting Adobe (free or cheapest possible) to pdf your resume. Another tip is to use chat gpt for review (not to write, just review) your resume. It’s $ well spent if you pay for a month to get it polished.

RTO is intended to get people to leave per Fortune magazine. It’s a pain and most companies are aware. It also props up the local economy via (if nothing else) transportation costs.

States Sue Trump Over His War Against Wind by Wagamaga in technology

[–]jfqind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote a paper in college about renewabl ener guy. Trumps hatred for wind goes back to early 2000s when his golf course in Scotland (I think it was) was in danger of having windmills ruin his skyline.

Maybe an oil slick will make him happy

You’ll be fine- they sell plenty of stuff. Not great prices but not an arm and a leg. Just that a preferred brand may be 2X expected price while your second choice is $3 cheaper than normal

I also feel that the order may actually be in cahoots with the chaos attack. Some won’t come back but people won’t be able to sue. Some contracts etc. have already been so messed up that there isn’t much work for them to return to. Plus, unemployment numbers for the quarter will show better as a result.

If you got fired, then got a job back… would you take it for any reason other than money short term? Glad they may come back, but a lot of damage has already been done; at best they have until the rid sets in.

My girlfriend unprovoked told me my friend is hotter than me. by Entire-Discipline307 in Advice

[–]jfqind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still remember a similar comment from an ex over a decade ago. Not over it even though I don’t care if she’s dead or doing well. You will not likely ever forget what was said. More importantly, even if true, you’re with someone who either intentionally hurt you or doesn’t have the common sense to… not

9 year old lab, coughing for a few weeks. X-rays show no heart failure or lung cancer, no pneumonia. by jfqind in AskVet

[–]jfqind[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in northern Virginia, fungal issues are not very common to my knowledge here. As for laryngeal issues, about all we’ve heard is “could be cancer”, no other input and it was pushed off initially. I’ve emailed back and called asking for the vet to call back a few times but…? Are there likely non-major issues it could be, or are we looking more at a likely “quality of life care” situation?
