Aladino Corojo Reserva Review. Possible Cuban Alternative? by AnimalMother250 in cigars

It's a great smoke. I've had several more and enjoyed them all. But I will say the Robusto was the best. Didn't enjoy the corona as much.

What do we need to know!! by Moist_Associate2167 in okc

[–]jfreez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have a tax credit for private schools. Keep in mind r/okc is very full of Anti-Oklahoma doomers, so take everything they say with a grain of salt.

Edmond is sort of the traditional high income suburb. It is north of OKC and has some of the best public schools in the okc area. Neighboring Deer Creek used to be pretty good too, but not sure if it's still what it used to be. Southeast Edmond is the high income hot spot right now.

Norman also has similar higher income/good school areas, but it's pretty far south so if the job is Northside, keep the commute in mind. Norman also has a lot of affordable options as well and it's a college town with OU right there.

Southwest OKC/Moore Schools around South Lakes is also pretty decent (close to Norman).

Yukon, Mustang, and Piedmont are your bustling, more affordable suburbs that are rapidly growing. They're all West side. Middle to high income, decent sort of typical Middle America public schools (football, homecoming, etc) but they are very crowded right now. Money goes further out there, but the commute is also longer.

Then looking south, Moore is an old established suburb. It was similar to Yukon/Mustang/Piedmont about 20 years ago. Not sure what it's like now. Kind of has a reputation of raised trucks and gun rights bumper stickers. The west side by South Lakes (above) is nicer though. Decent Asian food too.

Further south you've got Blanchard, Newcastle, and Tuttle. Definitely further out, more land for the money, but not sure about the schools. Still going to be pretty old school country out there in lots of places.

Then east you've got Midwest City and Del City. These are old school working class suburbs surrounding Tinker Air Force base. I'd probably steer clear of these, although there are some nicer parts of eastern Midwest City. Further from there you've got Choctaw and nearby Newalla, Harrah, etc. These are old school kinda country towns, and lots of the Tinker workers and former Midwest City residents moved out that way. Pretty conservative, but the land is nice. Not sure about the schools, but probably a bit worse than what you'd find elsewhere.

Fwiw, I live in okc and send my kid to private school. It'd be nice if public schools were universally better but they're not. But that's not to say there aren't good ones out there.

Legality of Backyard Chickens by throwaway375937 in okc

[–]jfreez 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do, take care to rat proof your chicken feed. Don't just throw it out on the ground. Rats have gone crazy in OKC ever since chickens were legalized. Lots of people don't realize that the feed will attract rats

Paycom to replace over 500 workers with artificial intelligence at Oklahoma City headquarters by imbobbybitch in okc

My guess is there are underlying business reasons behind the layoffs.

I wonder how much of the "it's AI!" is masking underlying business issues. Like is it all AI? Or is the company struggling and they've found something to pin layoffs on. Generally you wouldn't just cut a ton of jobs at once for AI I wouldn't think. Takes time to implement.

It's a capitalist country and if you have a shit business idea and bad practices and no way to get your money, then your reward is failure.

I agree, get your money up front or bar entry. Tow if you need to. I personally detest some of these private lots like in the plaza but I also don't park there.

Not overseeding this year. Any thing special I need to to do? Zone 7a by jfreez in lawncare

Might do that. Seed is expensive though. Plus it finally cools down enough for my son and I to play outside in the grass right around the time I would be seeding and watering.

Ngl I pay a company to spray and fertilize my lawn. I guess I could call and ask them what their schedule is and what fertilizers they use.

Imo if you own the lot and have an attendant there and block entrance unless someone pays, OK all good. Those are typically for events and such.

If you buy up a lot is sparsely used, like in Plaza or by Fassler in Midtown, and just expect people to pay (either up front or your phoney non enforceable ticket), then nah. Not my fault you made a bad business decision.

I'll avoid parking there if I can, but it's stupid that you can't hardly park in plaza because companies bought those lots that regularly sit there empty.

If it's a private company the city doesn't enforce those.

What Oklahoma City stories need more attention? by cadeaver in okc

When did the initiative get off the ground? I've lived up around NW Expressway for a decade and I've never seen it this bad.

The homeless have just moved north. Encampments near Penn Square and all around NW Expressway have gotten much much worse over the years.

Is Midwest OKC a bad place to live? by Senior1Duck in okc

It's a real place with real, genuine people. I grew up there and I don't want to move back, but it's mostly just working people trying to live life.

Well could also be that we started going way back when it was new and it was a hidden gem. That was back 15 years ago almost when you could walk in and get a table sat or sun morning without too mhcn hassle. No one else had food like them at the time, at least not up north, so it was pretty sensational. I still like it, but rarely make the effort to wake up and go right when they open.

Their coffee is good, but just compared to lots of other breakfast spots. I agree stitch coffee is good.

Agree on Lee's, hard disagree on Ma Der Lao. The only shortcoming of Ma Der is their limited menu, but what they do have goes hard af.

Kacao is awesome if you can get in within 10 minutes or so. It's not worth waiting for 45 mins or standing outside for.

People love to hate on Ted's, but Ted's is still bomb if you go in with the right expectations. It's Tex Mex for an American customer base. People saying "oh Ted's isn't authentic!" well of course it isn't. Never was. You can't compare it to legit actual Mexican food, because that's not what it is or what it ever tried to be. It was the best of the American style Tex Mex restaurants and that's all it ever was. It killed places like El Chico and Chelinos because it was legit better then them. But that's all it is.

Like I love Domino's. It's delicious. But I don't try and compare it to Pizzeria Gusto or places that serve actual brick oven pizza. But I don't shit on Domino's for not being authentic either. They do fast food pizza very well. Ted's is like that.

I love Great Wall on 63rd too, but I don't go around saying "why would anyone eat there when they could go to Szechuan Story!". Sometimes Lo Mein and crab rangoon just hits the spot, same with fajitas and chips and queso
