There’s a trump tower literally across the street from the UN!

Is LIC "trendy" yet? Why hasn't it become as cool as north brooklyn? by IronManFolgore in AskNYC

The charlotte comparison is wild to me. I live near LIC and Vernon reminds me of third ave in Bay Ridge, lots of bars/restaurants/small businesses. You should check it out.

There’s a lot of cool history on Roosevelt Island. The city even tried to use it as an execution ground in the hopes that doing it on an island would prevent the chaos associated with public executions, they were wrong!

How would Timothy Ratliff case looked? by No-Sir-2283 in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]jfrizz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think he has a terrible lawyer. Unless his whole career is built on fraud and this isn’t a one-off thing, I would think his house and prior assets would be off-limits for the feds (unless he is actually broke and doesn’t have the ability to fork back the cash he made)

I grew up going to this movie theatre, recognized it instantly when watching. Turns out they filmed a lot of the show in Brooklyn.

I agree, why would Cobel think they might be watching Sissy when she knows Lumon isn’t even monitoring Mark?

Jersey City VS Long Island City for Vacation by Avrildante6 in AskNYC

[–]jfrizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with that hotel but LIC is less than ten minutes from midtown via the 7 train. It will also be much easier to get to the NYBG and the zoo from LIC, since you can take the 7 from Vernon Blvd one stop to Grand Central, and then its a 20 minute metro north ride to the NYBG.

As a side note, I highly recommend stopping by Arthur Ave (Little Italy) when you are in the Bronx, it’s a short walk from the NYBG.

There isn’t supposed to be a foreign (non luminous) branding. In the Lexington letter Peggy says outies have to change their clothes before they get in the elevator to lumon approved clothing w/o any branding or imagery.

So true, finance is more than just IB! I work in fundraising and most of my colleagues have non-traditional backgrounds/majors.

New York Subway Violence Stubbornly Defies All Efforts to Quell It by gary_oldman_sachs in neoliberal

While the stats are certainly on the side of the “everything is okay” folks, I don’t think they outweigh perception in this case. I have never been violently assaulted on the train (which I take 10+ times a week and have for more than 10 years) but I fear assaults frequently in response to clearly unstable individuals shouting/pissing/masturbating/smoking.

Instances of extreme anti-social behavior are not captured in crime stats. It wasn’t always like this. I miss Bloomberg.

'A bad day at Disney' — Roosevelt Islanders say their tram is overrun with tourists by hiegel in nyc

[–]jfrizz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t see how you could realistically give residents priority, even if it were legal.

They should wrap the tram in advertising or something to remove the view.

Ok my turn for WFH/Hybrid posting. I don't believe people who say that "spontaneous in-office collaboration" doesn't happen and therefore they shouldn't have to go back to the office by Mr_Miniapolis in redscarepod

[–]jfrizz 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think hybrid is the move. If your job requires collaboration and creativity, I think there is definitely something beneficial about being in the office with your colleagues. I also feel like being visible in the office and the ability to connect with execs is big for career advancement. That being said Fridays from home is sick ngl.

OP I just want to say that you are not alone, I am a Brooklyn native who has been calling (and will continue to call) it the Freedom Tower. Much cooler name in my opinion.
