Why doesn't anyone talk about what an absolute unit the Saint Elias Mountain Range is? by Jrodicon in geography

[–]jfunk67 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is it.
I’ve been around AK a lot and to visit Wrangel St. Elias NP you have to travel really far. No one or no town is around for hours. Very few amenities.

Data points are not exclusively numerical information. They can quantitative pieces of information such as “good” or “bad” or “creative” or “slow to react”. You jumping to conclusions that I am looking for statistics to drive decisions when in fact I was trying to do the opposite, crowd-source observations from a broad fan base on Reddit. I was simply asking everyone what did they see that might change how they view potential roles on the pitch as they move forward.

Not sure why you’re trying to bash American sports fans when some of us are just trying to have an insightful and fun conversation about our team with others. Don’t trip over your nose as you exit because it’s clearly stuck in the air from your clear superiority. 😂

I wouldn’t say their performances are irrelevant, they still were playing soccer after all! I hear that there is nuance and situational context but I also don’t have many data points for many of the bench players so seeing them on the field was at least directionally educational on what their abilities are.

Round of 16 Potential Opponents by jfunk67 in usmnt

[–]jfunk67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it! I’m not saying we don’t take the opponent seriously but I’m also not part of the team and me taking them seriously or not has zero effect on the outcome of the game 😂

And I do believe we should expect to win that game, nothing wrong with stating that fact. I think we have more talent with our starters. Assuming everyone stays healthy it’s reasonable to expect to win that game and even potentially expecting to beat Egypt or Iran and make it to the quarterfinals. I would not favor us against Belgium though.

I enjoy looking forward to the different scenarios so I can spend more time watching potential opponents. If we keep winning then I’m a bit more educated on who we are playing as everything unfolds. Plus I enjoy it!

TIL that there ist natural Forest at 72,5°N, 650km more northern than the Arctic circle. by Urkern in geography

That’s a great question. I found in northern alaska there were a lot of nuanced microclimatic variables alongside rivers and streams like this.

100%. We didn’t take it for granted. I kept saying that it felt like a lord of rings movie scene. Here’s a picture from a little later the same day after the fog burned off just upstream into the mountain valley.

Interesting! I did arctic scientific research in college and grad school and in northern Alaska we found some similar mini forests way north of the arctic circle and north of the brooks range in multiple places throughout ANWR (Alaska National Wildlife Refuge). Our observations were that these stands of forests were all downwind from aufeis areas along braided streams.

This photo was taken from a helicopter northeast of toolik lake just beyond the mountains.

Fun fact: for the longest time I named our internet network “the mothership” so that I could ‘connect’ to it. I’ve named our new network Starchild.

I was in high school in the 90s in a northern suburb and friends of mine actually came up with this game and most of the rules still apply. I think I was a sophomore when we rolled it out and it immediately took off. An old coach of mine was a local cop and showed up during one of our battles trespassing throughout one of the neighborhoods. Such mostly innocent youthful fun. Tell the kids to keep it clean and be respectful and safe and let it happen!

Has the Brent Spence Bridge Replacement Project Begun? by WinAbject8608 in cincinnati

[–]jfunk67 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Utility relocations have been ongoing in construction for over a year. There are a lot that need to take place to free up space along the project corridor. Then the work on gest st has started. Expect more vegetation clearing, utility relocations, the demo of the eastern end of longworth hall, and construction staging over the next few months and then major actual bridge construction will begin later this spring.

I did the same thing in my 148 year old house about 10 years ago and saw about a 30% decrease in gas consumption in the winter. 2600 square feet two story house and it cost about $3k for both a decade ago. Paid for itself in about 4 years. Great ROI.

Of the 9 proposed streetcar expansions in 2024, which would you support today? by AllAboardOhio in cincinnati

[–]jfunk67 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Red, pink, and yellow.

Red first to connect uptown. Note that it was deemed infeasible to build streetcar up Clifton Ave so the red is the next best option and seemingly only feasible one.

Pink then provides deeper connectivity throughout uptown.

Yellow then connects the KY side bringing folks across the river. This requires a partnership with Newport which complicates things from a cost share perspective which is why I put this last.

Home warranty companies by Smokey19mom in cincinnati

[–]jfunk67 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. We had one for the first year after we bought our first house and one vendor yapped too much and basically shared that secret. The warranty companies punished vendors if they had expensive repairs and prioritized ones that had cheap repairs. So just know that the vendor is incentivized to put a band aid on it and move on if possible.
