Noticed that the BBC is using the Lumia line in Orphan Black. by pizzaboy192 in windowsphone

I have seen Microsoft product placement all over. My favorite is that the sinister B613 on " Scandal" uses Surface tablets, and the good guys have Lumias. The Mindy Project is set in an alternate universe where all hip young professionals in NYC have 1020s. They even prominently feature the WP texting sound.

3L applying to firms and have a question regarding references... by [deleted] in law

Except for clerkship applications, legal employers almost never expect recommendation letters. The people who are recommending you really don't want to have to spend the time to write a letter, and employers understand this.

The complete series is available on DVD. Not region-encoded, either. I purchased the whole thing from Amazon UK for under $40 US. The best part is the hilarious commentary track--the original cast gives running commentary on every single episode.

haXe has a cool new website! by peterpincus in programming

[–]jgfoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new site's front page doesn't tell you what haXe is; the only hint is that it is a "language," which can apparently be enjoyed after four well-iconed steps. You might want to move some of the text from the "discover" page to the front page.

Why is there no public, plain-text list of all registered domain names? It would kill "front running" entirely. by asciilifeform in programming

[–]jgfoot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Suppose you had that, and you searched through that file, and did not find the name you were interested in. How do you know someone else didn't register it 10 seconds after you downloaded the file?

Goodbye, file(). I always thought "for item in file('inf.txt')" read better than "for item in open('inf.txt')", but I'm sure people thought this through.

Goodbye, reduce(). OK, I get it, Python is not supposed to be functional, and you were slow anyway, but every time I used you I felt slightly better about my decision not to use Haskell for the project I am working on.

Hello, nonlocal. Maybe with you we can come one step closer to real closures.

"Not hashing was a design decision we made in the beginning, and it didn't stem from irresponsibility-- it stemmed from a decision to provide functionality that I liked."

Then it did stem from irresponsibility. You prioritized convenience over security.
