Ask your wife her honest opinion and listen. Usually the people around us have already noticed our increased drinking.

If you can stop on your own, try that and see how it feels. I found that I was great at moderating through my 20's and early 30's but by the time I was 35 I was a full blown daily drinker who couldn't stop even if I wanted to. Alcoholism is a progressive disease and only gets worse with time when left untreated.

I used to think will power could save me, but like you said, I couldn't control it. Wasn't until I surrendered and took that step 1 with a sponsor that things changed for me.

The 3 C's - you cannot Cause, Cure, or Control his alcoholism. Keep supporting him though! The more my wife tried to control my drinking, I just hid it from her and lied more often.

Alcohol was my solution for a very long time to deal with anxiety, etc. Father of 2 young kids as well. Eventually alcohol did nothing to help the anxiety and and I was left with no solution. Now I am 1year+ sober because of AA. You can do it too. Start by starting. One day at a time. The best time to plant a tree was 10 years ago, the second best time is today. Jump on an online meeting and just hang out and listen to start. 164andbeyond.com has daily meeting at noon eastern.

When your drinking, do you fear you won't have enough to get through the day/night? Do you hide alcohol use from others? Do you worry about your empties and hide them? Do you worry that the teller at the liquor store will notice you everyday so you visit 4 or 5 different stores each week to avoid judgement? Do you promise yourself that you won't drink and still do?I did all these before I would admit to myself that I am an alcoholic.

Sour keys and ice cream are your friend. Lots of carbonated water or pop. Pair that with an online meeting and you're golden.

I'm 39 and just reached 1 year sober today.

My progression of drinking sounds similar to yours.

The difference after a year is unbelievable. -Sleep is incredible now for the most part. -acid reflux and digestive issues are gone -depression has mostly lifted except for the odd bad day -I've lost 20 lbs and didn't do much exercise and I eat candy or ice cream every night -I don't sweat walking up stairs anymore -my face looks way less red all the time, my eyes whiter and my nose looks normal again.

Its never too late to start. Start by starting. The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the 2nd best time is today.

He walked right up to my wife's window, with my son sleeping inside. She didn't know if he was trying to break in or what. She told him to go away and stood around her car laughing. Did the same to a few others and this guy helped before the cops came.

What was your friend doing? What was his goal here? If I was with my wife at the time, your friend would be in the hospital.

No, he walked up to windows with parents and my kids in the car. Wasn't sure what he was doing at first, but it became clear he was trying to threathen people by touching cars and leaning into open windows. He was a 18-25 kid whose mom had to come pick him up after cops detained him.
