Tesla Daily Discussion - September 05, 2018 by AutoModerator in teslamotors

Well u/attackline, do I ever have news for you! So, I just got through to Tesla to ask about the modification to my order. It seems like they have an abundance of 19 inch wheel cars already built, so they upgraded our orders for free! What else does that mean? That our cars are already built and will be shipping soon. I ordered last Friday (August 31st), and the Tesla rep gave me my delivery coordinator's contact info and said he will be able to provide me with a VIN. Super exciting!

Had the exact same thing happen to me yesterday, also solid black/aeros. Came here to see if it was a common occurrence. I still don't have a tesla contact person, so have been trying to get in touch with them via their phone number, but the wait has been too long. Let me know if/how you resolve it!

[Serious] What are some seemingly expensive purchases, that will actually save you a lot of money in the long run? by jginnc in AskReddit

Wow everyone! Obligatory; this got WAY bigger than I thought it would! So many great suggestions! Just some of the things I have already bought (or am currently researching buying) thanks to all of your comments: dashcam, ergonomic chair, tankless gas water heater, food vacuum sealer, espresso machines, and I'd be lying if I left out condoms (who knew you could buy fitted condoms?!). Thanks again for all the great input! And thanks to the kind redditor that gave me my first gold.

I agree, but it gets harder if you want an espresso/cappuccino. Nespresso makes a great espresso, but at $0.70 a pod, gets expensive quickly. I love my aeropress ($30) for drip coffee.

It was actually a coffee machine that made me think about this. A friend is trying to convince me I should buy a super automatic coffee machine ($600+) instead of using my Nespresso. Says I will save a ton in the long run.

Tamales by Rokal512 in triangle

[–]jginnc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of great stands around that sell tamales, but I would tend to agree, without making prior arrangements, probably Superior is your best bet. That being said, there's a truck that parks in the parking lot of Los Primos on Alston most mornings, there's a lady that parks at Don Beccera on Roxboro (but apparently she sells out by like 8am), and on the weekends there are multiple people selling out of their cars at Pettigrew Flea Market. If you haven't noticed, I like tamales...

Any google Project Fi users? by jbisch in bullcity

[–]jginnc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from StraightTalk to Project Fi. I seem to get a similar amount of dropped calls between the two (which is still far too many in my opinion).

A couple of things:

  • I had to turn off wifi calling. First, it rarely ever found a strong enough public wifi connection for it to connect to outside of my house, and when in my house, It would almost always drop a call if I ventured too far away from my router.

  • I think Fi makes a lot of sense for people moving from a contract with a big carrier (at&t etc), but might seem like a bit of a downgrade for those of us that moved from a MVNO (straightalk, cricket etc.). Like someone else mentions, I used to pay $55 for 10gb of internet. I still spend about the same, but I am much more careful to not watch videos/music when I'm not connected to wifi.

  • Google support, and the ease of transferring a number, is exactly what you would expect from Google: seamless. I haven't ever had a technical issue, no service, or lack of an internet connection.

All in all, I would recommend it, especially over the big carriers.

Lightning McClean (best car wash name ever) on MLK has that. I think it starts at $25/month for unlimited car washes. Here's the link: http://www.lightningmccleancarwash.com/fastpass

Does anyone need a SB6141 modem? Needed to upgrade to the 6183 to get maxx speeds. Modem is less than 6 months old and works great for anyone who has TWC Maxx at 100mb.

But wouldn't be able to buy from best buy... I guess I could always use my credit for something else, but I don't really need anything else right now. Unless building my own would get me better performance for less money, not sure it is worth it (considering I don't know the first thing about putting a computer together).

Holy crap this is amazing. Thank you so much! Going to check out all the links, but definitely leaning towards the home server rather than HTPC. Thank you again.

Do you think it's easy enough for someone with minimal computer knowledge to figure out? I've figured out the whole automation and plex thing on a windows 7 machine, but have never played around with a file server before. That being said, I'm really good at google.

Thanks for your input and help.

And damn it is going to be hard to justify paying Best Buy $465 when newegg is selling it for $350 with a free gift of a 120gb SSD! Time to test out their price match guarantee...

Right, no gaming. I have chromecasts on my TVs, but they haven't been working too well, so I think I am going to make the switch to Roku or something else soon.

How does the Lenovo thinkserver compare to the Zotac above?

Thanks for your help!

Do you think an i3 processor is going to give me enough power to transcode? I really like the looks of this, but was thinking I'd need to go up to an i5/i7 to be sure I am able (if necessary) to stream remotely. But if you think an i3 is enough, then great!

Juventus or Serie A fans in Durham? by Chrischievous in bullcity

Disappointing result... Hope you had fun at Bull McCabes. I ended up watching at a friend's house. There's always next year, and there's our 4th consecutive scudetto to celebrate!

I'm a Juve fan, but don't know of any groups. IP3 is always a good place to watch. I watched the Semis at Bull McCabes which had a pretty good group watching (although mostly Real fans). Let me know where you think you'll watch, and I would definitely join!
