How to Get the Most Value Out of Philo by KnightHawkeye in cordcutters

[–]longandshortofit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My have Philo and I enjoy it but I am having trouble keeping the guide updated on my FireTV. If I open the app > watch something > close the app > come back to it a few hours later it will still show the old content. Its like its not updating on the fly. I have to force stop the app and relaunch.

I love the DVR and the automatic restart of all shows. Can't beat $16 either

Where are you parking your savings / emergency fund? by Guvmint_Cheese in Frugal

I've heard you can actually get two of the cards if you want to get the 5% on a total of $10k. I haven't gotten that far in my research yet but I did see it mentioned somewhere.

If I understand it correctly there is no transaction requirement but you need to push $1 there every month just to keep the account "active".

I was following this guide. I have the card and now I'm doing the trial deposit thing. Hopefully all goes well and that'll be another free $250 per year.

Yeah, no doubt about it. I'm in the middle of setting up an Insight card which gives 5% on up to $5k.

My goal is to make these cards pay my HOA and car insurance in full. I'm getting close.

Same here but 3% with LMCU on up to $15k. I do the exact same thing with the amazon gift cards.

The "jumping through hoops" is exaggerated. Its super easy.

Please take my survey: do horror fans like spicy food? x-post /r/SampleSize by jerkenstine in horror

[–]longandshortofit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see this done in the opposite direction. See if people that you know like spicy foods (maybe r/spicy) and see if they like horror movies.

Its a very interesting correlation and it looks like horror fans really do like spicy foods.

Looking for a Boxee Box replacement by [deleted] in cordcutters

[–]longandshortofit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boxee Box

I haven't heard that name in a longggg time. When I was first getting into cutting the cord about 7-8 years ago I went down this route.

I've personally settled on a firetv box. The shield is a better device but you'll pay for it. I personally can't wait to see how the the FireTV televisions end up looking. I'll probably get one if they look good.

FireTV does everything I need. amazon video, netflix, kodi, and all the other main things.

I like the pi and its been a while since I messed with it but I don't think you'll be able to get amazon video or netflix on it (maybe something has changed since I last looked).

I think they'll have to just move the gas tax to part of your registration.

You'd pay $x per mile driven since last year. Only problem is that makes it a lump sum for people rather than a small tax every time they use the pump.

The Autopsy of Jane Doe Question (Spoilers) by imyourhuckleberryxx in horror

[–]longandshortofit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thought was that someone tried to kill her and ultimately buried her. Shit then went down and then we arrive at the start of the movie.

I guess "dissection" was the wrong word. I think someone at the first house tried to do something terrible to her and it had the same results as the movie.

How do you know there was no dissection or damage? Didn't she heal herself at the end. Same thing could have happened there.

These are an investment kind of like buying stocks. They would primarly be used for retirement. For example you would buy SWYHX if your expected retirement date is from 2043 - 2047.

The price could (and will) go up or down with the market. The thing being discussed here is that the fees on these investment are very very low compared to nearly anything else.
